Atypical polypoid adenomyoma (APA) is an uncommon uterine tumor that rarely metastasizes, although it closely resembles a well-differentiated endometrioid carcinoma. A 37-year-old woman with a history of pelvic endometriosis and oral contraceptive use developed an APA and later presented with bilateral ovarian endometrioid carcinomas. DNA ploidy analysis and human papilloma virus (HPV) typing of the APA and ovarian carcinomas were performed to characterize the primary or metastatic nature of the tumors. Both tumors were aneuploid. The APA had a DNA index of 1.53, compared with 1.19 for the ova

BACKGROUND: With the rising rate of cesarean section delivery worldwide, the development of cesarean scar diverticulum (CSD) is increasingly observed, with a prevenance ranging from 24% to 70%. CSD is associated with abnormal uterine bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, cesarean scar pregnancy, and infertility. Furthermore, a CSD can present as a pelvic mass that causes diagnostic dilemma. Herein, we report a rare case of uterine cystic adenomyoma (UCA) arising from CSD and review a series of similar diseases to improve the understanding of CSD-associated mass.

RATIONALE: Adenomyosis, a gynecological condition characterized by endometrial tissue within the uterine myometrium, often leads to menstrual pain and heavy bleeding, significantly affecting the quality of life. The primary treatment for adenomyosis and leiomyomas is hysterectomy. However, in rare instances, these conditions can recur in the cervical stump following a hysterectomy. Here, we present a case of cervical adenomyoma development after a prior laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 47-year-old woman sought medical attention due to increased vaginal bleeding.

Uterine adenomyoma is often overlooked, and cervical adenomyoma is extremely rare. Previous reports suggest that a uterine adenomyoma usually occurs in the uterine corpus but rarely in the uterine cervix. Approximately 20 reports of cervical adenomyoma have been published to date. However, cervical adenomyoma has been rarely investigated using magnetic resonance imaging. We encountered a large multicystic tumor in the uterine cervix of a 26-year-old woman that was difficult to diagnose preoperatively. On the basis of cytology, biopsy, and imaging findings, the cervical multicystic tumor measur

BackgroundAdenomyomas are rare benign lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, mostly found in the biliary tract and stomach. Their occurrence in the small bowel, particularly in children, is exceedingly rare. This report presents two pediatric examples of small bowel adenomyomas, including one within a Meckel diverticulum, a notably rare occurrence.Case Report 1An 11-month-old boy presented with intussusception. Surgical exploration revealed a pathologic lead point in the ileum.Case Report 2A 12-year-old boy also presented with intussusception. A Meckel diverticulum, acting as a lead point, was

BACKGROUND: An adenomyoma is a well circumscribed form of adenomyosis and can be located within the myometrium, in the endometrium as a polyp, or extrauterine with the last being the rarest presentation amongst the three. With the ongoing advancement in gynecological surgery, the use of electromechanical morcellators have made the removal of large and dense specimens possible with minimally invasive techniques. However, it has also caused an increase in complications which were previously rare. Whilst the tissue is being grinded within the abdominal cavity, residual tissue can spread and remai

PURPOSE: To determine the multidetector CT (MDCT) findings that differentiate adenomyoma of the ampulla of Vater (AOV) from localized adenocarcinoma of the AOV.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixteen and 30 patients with adenomyoma and localized adenocarcinoma of the AOV, respectively, were evaluated using MDCT. We analyzed the size and attenuation value and presence of uniform enhancement of the lesions, diameters of the extrahepatic bile duct (EHD) and main pancreatic duct, presence of regional lymph node enlargement, and laboratory findings. We determined the independent findings for differentiati

Disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis (DPL), also known as leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata, is a rare condition characterized by multiple benign smooth muscle tumors proliferating along the peritoneal surfaces. In previous case reports, these tumors have been noted to involve the ovaries, round ligaments, bladder, bowel, peritoneum, and mesentery. To date, approximately 150 cases of DPL have been described in the literature. Extrauterine adenomyoma is an even rarer entity, involving benign tumors composed of smooth muscle tissue, endometrial glands, and endometrial stroma arising outs

Adenomyoma or adenomyomatosis (ADM) of the gallbladder generally carries little or no risk of malignant transformation. Rare cases of such malignant transformation are described in the literature only in segmental type of ADM and not in localized adenomyoma. We report a case of a 58-year-old asymptomatic woman found to have an incidental 3.3 × 3.2 × 2.3 cm well-circumscribed exophytic mass on surveillance ultrasound, originating from the fundus of the gallbladder and abutting the liver capsule. The patient underwent an open cholecystectomy with resection of the mass and underlying segment of t

AIMS: To report a series of 10 cervical adenomyomas of endocervical type and the first case of a mesonephric adenomyoma.
METHODS AND RESULTS: The patients' ages ranged from 30 to 55 years. Most lesions were grossly polypoid; a minority were intramural or exophytic. In six of seven endocervical adenomyomas received in consultation, adenoma malignum was considered. A variety of benign lesions, including lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia (LEGH), adenofibroma, endocervicosis and tunnel clusters, were also considered. The endocervical adenomyomas consisted of bland mucinous glands, someti

We report an unusual case of adenomyoma of the common hepatic duct mimicking bile duct cancer. A 50-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for the investigation of general fatigue. Laboratory data showed abnormal liver test results and computed tomography showed a mass lesion in the hepatic hilum and dilatation of the intrahepatic bile ducts. These findings led to a preoperative diagnosis of hilar bile duct carcinoma, and we performed a left lobectomy with resection of the extrahepatic bile duct. Macroscopically, an elevated lesion was found in the common hepatic duct, which was confirmed

BACKGROUND: Juvenile cystic adenomyomas (JCAs) are rare uterine lesions. Differential diagnosis might be difficult. We present the case of an adolescent who was diagnosed with JCA and was managed with laparoscopic excision.
CASE: A 14-year-old patient with complaint of menarche with excruciating dysmenorrhea, was diagnosed using magnetic resonance imaging with a uterine anomaly consisting of a normal right hemiuterus, and a left cystic lesion with surrounding hypotense myometrium. She was managed with laparoscopic excision of the left side, and uterine reconstruction. Histology was suggestive

Cystic adenomyosis is a rare form of adenomyosis mostly seen in middle aged women. We report two cases of cystic adenomyosis in juvenile patients, which simulate uterine malformation and presented as a diagnostic dilemma. The first patient initially was diagnosed as uterus bicornis with a hematometra in obstructed rudimentary horn while the second patient was diagnosed as broad ligament fibroid. Surgical exploration by laparoscopic approach confirmed the diagnosis and excision of the cystic mass relieved the symptoms of the patients.

We describe a case of giant cystic uterine adenomyoma that was diagnosed and treated by hysteroscopy. In a 27-year-old woman with menometrorrhagia, severe dysmenorrhea, and chronic pelvic pain, pelvic ultrasonography revealed an enlarged uterine cavity filled with homogeneous low echogenic fluid content. A large cornual hematometra of 8.0 cm in diameter in a bicornuate uterus was suspected, and this hypothesis was also supported by magnetic resonance imaging findings. On the contrary, hysteroscopy revealed a bilocular huge cystic lesion of the posterior uterine wall that was removed by means o

The major differential diagnostic problem presented by atypical polypoid adenomyofibroma (atypical polypoid adenomyoma) (APA), which usually affects young women, is the exclusion of well-differentiated endometrial carcinoma invading the myometrium. This distinction, however, is of great clinical importance from the standpoint of treatment because reproductive conservation is feasible for patients with APA. Recently, CD10, known to be a marker of endometrial stromal cells, was reported to be also expressed in cells immediately surrounding the neoplastic glands invading the myometrium [Am J Surg

Atypical polypoid adenomyoma (APA) is a rare tumor developed from a mix of cells of epithelial and mesenchymal origin. We present the case of an 84-year-old patient with atypical polypoid adenomyoma on the vaginal vault, after total hysterectomy with total adnexectomy for endometrial hyperplasia with atypia four years ago. Not following regular indicated gynecological appointments, the symptoms presented were vaginal bleeding and anemia. The importance of the case consists both in the unique way in which the adenomyoma appears on the vaginal vault and in the subsequent evolution of this pathol

Adenomyosis, also known as endometriosis interna, is the presence of endometrial glands and stroma within the myometrium. Its localised form is called adenomyoma and mimics a leiomyoma. Rarely, adenomyomas are located outside the uterus and some of them form uterus-like masses with a thick muscle wall and an endometrium-lined central cavity. They are generally located in the ovary or broad ligament, and, although they are closely related to endometriosis, their pathogenetic mechanisms are different from each other.
