A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial of a Text Message Intervention to Promote Help Seeking for Psychiatric Outpatients.

Mental illness often affects and is affected by other diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and AIDS/HIV infection, and people living with mental illness require additional common services and resource mobilization efforts. Therefore, we developed a mobile phone intervention and conducted a randomized controlled trial with 45 psychiatric outpatients with mental illnesses. Data from 39 individuals (intervention group: 20, control group: 19; mean [SD] age, 44.64 [14.12] years) were included in the analyses. The intervention involved the promotion of help-seeking behaviors by sending

The circuit rider librarian.

Many hospitals are unable to maintain a full-or even half-time professional librarian to support the professional and nonprofessional hospital staff, and to assist with the development of education programs. To answer this need, the Cleveland Health Sciences Library has developed the "circuit rider librarian" concept. A designated librarian from the staff visits a group of hospitals and, for a fee, provides library service which the hospital could not or would not readily supply for itself. The only limitations on the expansion of such a program are the interest of the hospitals, their geograp

Invisible Obstacles: Audit of Consumer Experience When Calling Gambling Helplines in the United States.

Gambling helplines offer an important entry point to treatment for individuals who experience harm from gambling problems. To date, research has not directly explored callers' expectations for helplines or whether helplines consistently connect individuals to services and resources. Across two studies, this research (1) explored the expectations for helpline interactions among 179 adults in the United States who had gambled within the past year, and (2) examined the customer experience of contacting gambling helplines in 48 states using an audit methodology. In Study 1, when asked about their

Four questions to identify patients with ASA III or higher.

BACKGROUND: Increased age, obesity, and American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status class III and IV have been reported as predictors for mortality and perioperative complications. High-volume institutions rely on central referral services as first contact point for patients. The current study reports on a simple four-step questionnaire to identify patients with ASA-physical status class III and IV to improve referral processes and optimize perioperative work ups. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seven hundred and seventy-five patients who called the physician referral service (PRS) at

Patient satisfaction and rehabilitation services.

OBJECTIVE: Despite the widespread use of patient satisfaction measures, there has been only a small amount of research and writing on the topic in rehabilitation. DATA SOURCES: A Medline search was made of the past 10 years using descriptors related to patient satisfaction, rehabilitation, and selected diagnostic categories. Additional sources came from

Association between mental health service utilisation and sharing of injection material among people who inject drugs in Montreal, Canada.

BACKGROUND: High-risk injection behaviors are associated with high prevalence of mental health problems among people who inject drugs (PWID). However, whether the use of mental health services is associated with lower risk of sharing injection material remains undetermined. This study aims to examine the association between mental health service utilisation and receptive sharing risk, and determine the potential modifying effect of psychological distress on this association. METHODS: Participants answered an interviewer-administered questionnaire at 3-month intervals gathering information on

Mental health problems in children and adolescents referred to a national epilepsy center.

This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of psychiatric morbidity in children and adolescents referred to a tertiary national epilepsy center (inpatient unit) and the extent of the unmet need for psychiatric services in this group. Participants were 74 children and adolescents aged 9-15 referred from February 2001 to October 2002 (67% response rate). The multi-informant (parent, teacher, self-report) Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaires (SDQs) were answered before or at admission. Attitude to work and health problems among home care workers in settings with different degrees of institutionalization.

The relationship between different degrees of institutionalization in the care of the elderly (service house, home care, and a combination of both) and work-load, as well as staff feelings regarding psychosocial variables and health complaints, was investigated. Seventy-one staff members similar in background factors answered questionnaires semi-annually during a period of 3 years. The results revealed consistent and stable differences between the different settings. The staff in service houses had the highest documented and subjective work-load and were doubly at risk for neck pain, fatigue a

Physicians' Perspectives on ChatGPT in Ophthalmology: Insights on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Integration in Clinical Practice.

To obtain detailed data on the acceptance of an artificial intelligence chatbot (ChatGPT; OpenAI, San Francisco, CA, USA) in ophthalmology among physicians, a survey explored physician responses regarding using ChatGPT in ophthalmology. The survey included questions about the applications of ChatGPT in ophthalmology, future concerns such as job replacement or automation, research, medical education, patient education, ethical concerns, and implementation in practice. One hundred ninety-nine ophthalmic surgeons participated in this study. Approximately two-thirds of the participants had 15 year

The attitude of Canadian university students toward a behavior-based blood donor health assessment questionnaire.

BACKGROUND: In Canada, all men who have sex with men (MSM) are indefinitely deferred from donating blood. The purpose of this study was to determine the acceptability of an alternative behavior-based donor health questionnaire among Canadian university students. Further we sought to determine the perception of blood safety associated with specific risk behaviors. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Questions found on the Canadian Blood Services' donor health assessment questionnaire as well as from studies assessing high-risk behavior for human immunodeficiency virus infection were included. Imbruvica®▾(ibrutinib) patient support programme for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and mantle cell lymphoma.

Single-agent ibrutinib is an effective therapy for three types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma: chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma, both in relapsed and refractory cases and as a frontline treatment; relapsed and refractory mantle cell lymphoma; and Waldenstrom's macroglobulinaemia in patients who have been treated previously with a different medication. This novel agent has changed the landscape for the aforementioned three subtypes of lymphoma therapies as an oral alternative to traditional chemoimmunotherapy. [Work-related stress and psychological distress assessment in urban and suburban public transportation companies].

The risk of work-related stress has been determined in bus drivers and workers employed in the service department of two urban and suburban public transportation companies. The INAIL evaluation method (Check list and HSE indicator tool) was used. The GHQ-12 questionnaire, which is widely used to assess the level of psychological distress, was also employed. 81.9% of workers involved in the survey answered both the HSE indicator tool and the GHQ-12 questionnaire. The Check list evaluation showed an increase in quantifiable company stress indicators while close examination using the HSE indicato

The neurodivergent blood donor: Fairness, discrimination, screening, and behavior.

BACKGROUND: We broaden the ongoing drive to diversify blood donor panels by proposing and testing a framework to explore neurodivergence and blood donation. Drawing on a range of theoretical perspectives, we predict that neurodivergent people will be underrepresented in donor panels, donate less frequently, perceive donor selection as less fair and more discriminatory, be more likely to guess when answering screening questions, and find these questions upsetting. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: 4376 members of the UK general-public and 8668 NHSBT blood donors indicated if they had a formal or self-

Alignment of Canada's COVID-19 policy response with barriers and facilitators for coping reported by caregivers of youth with developmental delays, disorders, and disabilities.

INTRODUCTION: The UNICEF-WHO Global Report on Developmental Delays, Disorders, and Disabilities is an ongoing initiative aimed at increasing awareness, compiling data, providing guidance on strengthening health systems, and engaging country-level partners. Data from its caregiver survey assessing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic showed that half of youths with developmental delays and disabilities (DDDs) and their caregivers struggled to cope, with a significant portion reporting a lack of supports and difficulty managing the worsening of the child's symptoms in isolation. Governments created
