The current literature was reviewed to determine the impact of autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) on endodontic healing. All types of clinical study designs concerning any kind of endodontic treatment involving the application of APCs were included. Two independent reviewers searched three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library) for studies, complemented by hand search, until 16/1/2016. From the 423 identified records, 48 articles met the inclusion criteria. Selected randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) underwent Cochrane Collaboration's risk-of-bias assessment and data e

INTRODUCTION: This article describes an apexogenesis report of an 8-year old boy referred to our clinic 4 weeks after an impact trauma to the maxillary left central incisor that caused a complicated crown fracture and pulpal exposure.
METHODS: In the radiographic examination, the tooth was observed to be immature. After access cavity preparation, cervical pulpotomy was performed, and the remaining pulp was capped with calcium enriched mixture (CEM) cement. The crown was restored by using the fractured incisal segment on the next day.
RESULTS: The radiographic and clinical examinations on the

INTRODUCTION: Dens evaginatus (DE) is a dental anomaly with a supernumerary tubercle projection that typically contains dentin and pulp tissue. However, the tubercle projection can fracture, exposing the dentin and potentially the dental pulp, which induces pulpal diseases. Managing DE should be primarily based on the clinical diagnosis of the pulp.
METHODS: The literature search in prevalence, prophylaxis, and management of dens evaginatus was performed in PubMed database as well as by manual search, in which the related contents were collected and descriptively analyzed.
RESULTS: Of the 26

Treatment of high-risk traumatic immature teeth due to incomplete root development is challenging. Apexogenesis is currently the ideal treatment option that allows normal root development. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the apexogenesis process of immature permanent teeth of dogs when co-administered with calcium hydroxide and photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT). A total of 36 immature permanent anterior and premolar teeth were selected from three 4-6-month-old dogs of Iranian mixed generation. The teeth were categorized into two groups, calcium hydroxide with laser irradiation (CHL)

Regenerative endodontics offers a biologically driven alternative to apexification for immature teeth with necrotic pulps and apical periodontitis. We report the management of an 11-year-old girl with a history of dentoalveolar trauma and an immature maxillary left central incisor (tooth 21) presenting with gray discoloration, negative sensibility, and a defined apical radiolucency (Nolla stage 9). Treatment followed a conservative, accessible protocol: disinfection with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite, placement of triple-antibiotic paste (ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, amoxicillin), and, at two wee

BACKGROUND: Pulp revascularization is a novel way to treat immature teeth with periapical disease, and the technique has become increasingly well established in recent years. By puncturing the periapical tissue, bleeding is induced, and a blood clot is formed in the root canal. The blood clot acts as a natural bioscaffold onto which mesenchymal stem cells from periapical tissue can be seeded and restore pulp vascularity, thus promoting root development as well as apical closure. Although the effect of pulp revascularization is ideal, there are certain requirements for the apical condition of t

AIM: Among traumatic dental injuries, intrusive dislocation is considered to be one of the most serious injuries. Despite the high success rate in complacent patients, the traditional technique of calcium hydroxide inoculation has drawbacks. The good antimicrobial and sealing properties combined with excellent biocompatibility and high success rates of the mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) encourage its use.
BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to report a successful case of intrusive dislocation in a short time with a follow-up of eight years.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A patient, seven years

AIM: The aim of this case report is to present three different patients who had horizontal and vertical root fractures of young permanent teeth, its diagnosis, clinical and radiographic findings, treatment, and long-term follow-up and success rate.
BACKGROUND: Root fractures are relatively rare with the prevalence of 0.5-7% in permanent and 2-4% in deciduous dentition. Timely intervention and accurate treatment procedures are the main concerns for long-term success of root fractures.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Case I and case II had horizontal fracture of immature permanent tooth. Patients reported w

AIM AND BACKGROUND: Children and young adults frequently sustain traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) to their permanent teeth. Injury to permanent incisors is most commonly caused by a collision with an object or person and by a self-fall. Complicated crown fractures account for 2-13% of all dental injuries, in which the maxillary central incisors are most commonly affected. Anterior tooth fracture not only causes functional and esthetic problems but also has a psychological impact on the child.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 9-year-old boy reported to the department complaining of broken teeth in the uppe

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Revascularization procedures are used over apexification to treat teeth with necrotic pulp tissues and incomplete root formation. Clinically, inducing proliferation, migration, matrix deposition, and differentiation of stem cells from apical papilla (SCAPs) are critical for pulp regeneration. The study aimed to elucidate the impact of bone morphogenetic protein-4 (BMP-4) on plasminogen activation molecules and the osteogenic/odontogenic differentiation of SCAPs, as well as understand the related signaling mechanisms.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: SCAPs were exposed to BMP-4 with

BACKGROUND: In children with young permanent teeth, dental caries and traumatic injuries are the most common problems leading to pulp necrosis. Since, root development is completed in two to three years after eruption of the tooth into the oral cavity, loss of pulp vitality in young permanent tooth creates distinctive problems. In spite of exceeding availability of treatment procedures there is a need to search for a substantial procedure to treat young permanent teeth effectively.
AIM: The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the treatment protocols in the management of pulpally inv

Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has over the last two decades begun to take the place of calcium hydroxide (CH) in the treatment of a variety of pulpal and periodontal healing complications following dental trauma. These conditions include teeth with: (i) exposed pulps, (ii) immature roots and pulp necrosis, (iii) root fractures and pulp necrosis located in the coronal part of the pulps, and (iv) external infection-related (inflammatory) root resorption. The main reasons for replacing CH with MTA in these situations have generally been the delayed effect when using CH to induce hard tissues,

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Many studies have examined the nature of tissue formed in the canals of immature necrotic teeth, following revascularization in animals and humans. While speculations have been made that regeneration of the pulp tissue might take place in the canal, the tissue has been found to be cementum-like, bone-like, and periodontal ligament-like. The purpose of this study was to histologically examine the tissue in the root canals in immature dog teeth that had been artificially infected and then revascularized.
METHODS: Two 4- to 5-month-old mongrel dogs with immature teeth were us
