In this study a multicomponent reaction involving carbohydrate derivatives as the main component in order to prepare a new library of polyhydroxy compounds incorporating pyrimidine-fused heterocycles (PFHs) is introduced. Penicillium chrysogenum is used as an industrial producer of penicillin. We investigated its catabolism of lactose, an abundant component of whey used in penicillin fermentation, comparing the type strain NRRL 1951 with the high producing strain AS-P-78. The biochemical characteristics of 213 isolates of Burkholderia pseudomallei from patients with melioidosis and 140 isolates from the soil in central and northeastern Thailand were compared. Efficient pretreatment is important for complete enzymatic conversion of lignocellulosic materials. This work studied the concentration of hydrolyzates obtained from dilute acid hydrolysis of rice straw using nanofiltration (NF). We report a case of lymphocutaneous syndrome caused by Nocardia otitidiscaviarum (formerly known as N. caviae) in a 78-year-old woman who underwent long-term therapy with prednisolone for bronchial asthma. The study of the species composition of hemophilic bacteria inhabiting the nasopharynx of healthy persons has revealed that H. parainfluenzae is the predominant species (82.0 +/- 4.8%) among these bacteria. The isolation of H. influenzae and H. parahaemolyticus has been found to occur considerably more rarely and in lesser numbers (9.0 +/- 1.5% and 3.8 +/- 1.0%, respectively).
