Assessment of quality of life after traumatic brain injury in adults from Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova using EQ-5D-5L.

Purpose Traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs more frequently in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) than in high-income settings, yet data on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) from these regions remain scarce. This study assessed HRQoL outcomes in adult TBI patients in Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova. Methods Between March and September 2019, TBI data were collected using a standardized hospital-based registry in one trauma hospital per country. Demographics, injury characteristics, and symptoms were recorded; HRQoL was assessed at discharge using EQ-5D-5L. Results 386 patients were incl

Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometry analyses of ancient bronze artefacts of the Urartian period from Yegheghnadzor region, Armenia.

The results of the analysis on some fragments of bronze belts and a bowl discovered from southwestern Armenia, Yegheghnadzor archaeological site, are discussed. The samples are dated to the 7 and 6 BCE from the Urartian period. The artefacts were corroded, and a multilayer structure was formed. To study the stratigraphy of layers and their composition, the samples were analysed using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometry (scanning electron microscopy (SEM)-EDS) and optical microscopy techniques. The bronze finds appear with the typical incrustations, rich in alloy alt

A narrative review of visceral leishmaniasis in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the Crimean Peninsula and Southern Russia.

There is an extensive body of medical and scientific research literature on visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Crimean Peninsula and the southern part of The Russian Federation that is written in Russian, making it inaccessible to the majority of people who are interested in the leishmaniases in general and VL in particular. This review and summary in English of VL in what was Imperial Russia, which then became the Soviet Union and later a number of different independent states intends to give access to that majority. There are numerous publications in Russian on VL

Assessing the Adoption of One Health Approaches in National Plans to Combat Health Threats: The Pilot of a One Health Conceptual Framework in Armenia.

Due to several factors, such as environmental and climate changes, the risk of health threats originating at the human-animal-environment interface, including vector-borne diseases (VBDs) and zoonoses, is increasing. Low-resource settings struggle to counter these multidimensional risks due to their already-strained health systems and are therefore disproportionally affected by the impact caused by these changes. Systemic approaches like One Health (OH) are sought to strengthen prevention and preparedness strategies by addressing the drivers of potential threats with a multidisciplinary and mu

Behavior change communication model enhancing parental practices for improved early childhood growth and development outcomes in rural Armenia - A quasi-experimental study.

The latest evidence demonstrates the importance of nurturing care from conception to lay a strong foundation for children's cognitive, socio-emotional and physical well-being. The interventions enhancing parental practices in children's health and growth, protection from neglect, abuse, and injury have lifelong impact on health, learning, economic productiveness outcomes. Existing maternal and child health delivery platforms might potentially be utilized to integrate Early Childhood Development interventions. However, there is a dearth of studies demonstrating the feasibility and effectiveness

Early safety and efficacy of the combination of bedaquiline and delamanid for the treatment of patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis in Armenia, India, and South Africa: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Bedaquiline and delamanid have been approved for treatment of multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis in the past 5 years. Because of theoretical safety concerns, patients have been unable to access the two drugs in combination. Médecins Sans Frontières has supported the use of combination bedaquiline and delamanid for people with few treatment options since 2016. We describe early safety and efficacy of regimens containing the bedaquiline and delamanid combination in patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis in Yerevan, Armenia; Mumbai, India; and Khayelitsha, South Africa. Comparative evaluation of histopathological lesions and viral antigen distribution in domestic pigs and wild boar inoculated intranasally with the highly virulent ASFV genotype II strain "Armenia 2007".

African swine fever (ASF) is a devastating viral disease that affects domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus) and European wild boar (Sus scrofa scrofa). A previous study indicated that wild boar were more susceptible to ASF than pigs, with shorter incubation periods and earlier onset of the disease. This follow-up study aims to compare the pathogenesis and progression of the disease between the two subspecies during the early and late stages of infection following intranasal inoculation with the highly virulent genotype II strain 'Armenia 2007'. Histopathological changes and viral antigen distr
