Topical glaucoma medications are widely used for childhood glaucoma, although little is known concerning the use of the newer glaucoma medications in this population. The majority of the references cited were extracted from PubMed. Clinical trials of the hypotensive effect of 0.5% betoptic, an antiglaucoma drug manufactured by Alcon (USA), were carried out at three ophthalmologic hospitals. Similar results obtained in all the trials permit a conclusion on a high hypotensive efficacy of this drug in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. The drug was well tolerated by the patients.

Re-epithelialization of 40 iatrogenic cornea ulcers produced in rabbits with iodine vapour burn were studied after topical administration of Betagan, Betoptic or Timoptic. Topically administered salbutamol was extremely effective in suppressing immediate allergic conjunctivitis in the guinea pig; a dose as low as 0.1% elicited 98% inhibition. The technique of in vitro labelling and autoradiography has been used to localize beta-adrenoceptors in sections of the splenic vascular bundle of the dog.
