We report on two successful cases of managing lung resections that had been complicated by bronchial stump fistulae. In the first case, an endobronchial blocker tube was used to intubate the patient, in order to control inflammation in the event of aspiration pneumonia. This treatment improved the general condition, so we were able to perform a second operation to close the fistula safely. This report describes a rare case of a bilio-bronchial fistula in a 60-year-old man with a complex history of hepatocellular carcinoma, treated with resection, trans-arterial chemoembolisation and microwave ablation. Following ablation, a pre-existing sterile liver seroma became infected, forming an abscess that eroded through the diaphragm, culminating in a fistula between the biliary tree and the bronchial system. Coronary artery fistulas are rare and usually asymptomatic congenital anomalies generally diagnosed incidentally during coronary angiographies. Herein, we present a case of bronchial to coronary artery fistula which was diagnosed incidentally during bronchial artery embolization. Embolization was performed successfully without complication, and an underlying important coronary artery stenosis was subsequently found by coronary computed tomography angiography.

BACKGROUND: Bronchial stump fistula (BSF), which is located on the bronchial stump following pulmonary resection, represents a distinct subtype of bronchopleural fistula (BPF). Although the endobronchial valve (EBV) has been used to treat BPF, few clinical studies involve BSF occluded by EBV because the abnormal bronchial stump makes EBV implantation challenging. The present research reports novel methods of using a circular loop ligation technique for securing EBV to achieve BSF occlusion and a new classification of BSF that is compatible with these novel methods.

Bronchopleural fistula (BPF), a common complication of lobectomy, is a pathological communication between the bronchus and the pleural space. Bilio-bronchial fistula due to hydatid disease is a rare but severe condition. Three levels, abdominal, diaphragmatic and thoracic, may be involved, with high perioperative mortality. We report a case of bilio-bronchial fistula successfully managed by thoracotomy. Thoracotomy is the best approach for surgical treatment at all three levels.

Cardiovascular complications following coarctation repair include aorto bronchial fistulas (ABF) which if untreated are invariably fatal. Reoperative surgery is associated with considerable mortality and morbidity. Endovascular stent aortoplasty provides a relatively new and viable alternative. Two cases of ABF post coarctation repair that presented with life threatening haemoptysis are discussed. Endovascular repair appears safe and feasible in an emergency and may become the preferred treatment modality in such cases.

We report the case of a 2-year-old girl who developed catastrophic haemoptysis due to an arterio-bronchial fistula after transcatheter balloon dilatation for a narrowing aortopulmonary shunt. We embolised the fistula while haemoptysis was controlled with the left bronchial block ventilation and haemostatic balloon occlusion of the left subclavian artery. An arterio-bronchial fistula is an extremely rare complication for balloon dilatation of an aortopulmonary shunt.
