Mycetoma is a chronic, local, granulomatous, subcutaneous, slowly progressive inflammatory disease caused by true fungi (eumycetoma) or filamentous bacteria (actinomycetoma), with the classic presentation involving tumefaction, multiple draining sinuses, and grain-filled pus. Intraosseous lipoma is a neoplasm which has classically been regarded in the literature as a rare bone tumor. The tumor has several distinguishing characteristics on plain film radiograph, magnetic resonance imaging, and computerized tomography scan. Due to appearances that are similar to simple bone cysts, infarctions, and other lesions, intraosseous lipomas are often misdiagnosed, possibly accounting for their purported rarity. Since 1980 our treatment of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures consists of open reduction with distractor, bone grafting, and internal fixation. Thereby no splints are applied and early postoperative movement is possible. For precise preoperative planning a CT scan is required. Proper timing and careful preoperative planning are essential to prevent soft-tissue complications. In a total of 16 fractures good clinical and radiologic results were achieved in 50% of the cases; results were satisfactory in 25% and poor in 25%. Surgery was previously restricted only to those with soft-tissue envelopes amenable to the extensile lateral approach. BACKGROUND: The calcaneus secundarius (CS) is an accessory ossicle of the anterior facet of the calcaneus and is usually asymptomatic. BACKGROUND: Sural nerve related symptoms following the extensile lateral approach to the calcaneus (ELA) and the sinus tarsi approach (STA) are a known postoperative complication despite awareness of the course the sural nerve. While the main trunk of the sural nerve and its location relative to the approaches have been previously described, the nerve gives rise to lateral calcaneal branches (LCBs) and an anastomotic branch (AB) that may be at risk of injury. Severely comminuted intra-articular calcaneal fractures often culminate in subtalar arthrosis and stiffness even after operative reduction. PURPOSE: Locked fracture-dislocations of the calcaneus are uncommon, and a substantial number of these injuries is not recognised or is misdiagnosed at first presentation. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term outcome in patients with this injury.
METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study of adult patients who sustained a uni- or bilateral calcaneal fracturedislocation. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed clinical charts and imaging findings for 6 patients with 7 IF of the calcaneus who were referred with the diagnosis of ankle arthritis.
