PURPOSE: To describe the first reported instance of an acute chorioretinal inflammatory response to cabozantinib.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 54-year-old Asian male presented with blurred vision 2 weeks following the commencement of cabozantinib for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Ophthalmic examination revealed bilateral exudative retinal detachments and choroiditis in a pattern similar to Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease. Further investigations revealed latent tuberculosis (TB), and management of this ocular adverse event was with cabozantinib cessation, high-dose oral prednisone, single

We report the case of a 72-year-old white woman with blurring of vision in both eyes of 15 days' duration. She had a history of treatment for bilateral tuberculosis choroiditis 20 years before. She was diagnosed with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy in the right eye and inflammatory choroidal neovascular membrane in the left eye, based on multimodal imaging, including optical coherence tomography, fundus fluorescein angiography, and indocyanine green angiography. The right eye received 3 intravitreal injections of aflibercept and showed complete resolution. The left eye was treated with a sin

Tuberculosis (TB) causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Ocular manifestations of TB can lead to severe and sight-threatening complications. Initiating treatment in ocular TB with anti-tubercular therapy (ATT) may be necessary to prevent long-term visual complications. We present a case of the reactivation of bilateral multifocal choroiditis (MFC) in a patient with latent TB after commencing ATT. An asymptomatic 36-year-old Indian male was referred to an ophthalmologist with extensive inactive bilateral MFC close to his fovea despite no previous medical or ocular history. Latent

PURPOSE: To describe a case of multifocal choroiditis associated with Epstein-Barr virus reactivation in a patient who had previously had documented infectious mononucleosis.
METHODS: Color photos, fluorescein angiography, autofluorescence, indocyanine green angiography, and high-definition optical coherence tomography imaging was performed. A 39-year-old woman presented with a central scotoma in her left eye. At 19 years of age, she developed a peripapillary choroidal neovascular complex in her right eye, which was treated by laser photocoagulation. Two weeks before her visual complaint, she

A review of 28 cases of multifocal choroiditis with vitreous inflammatory cells demonstrates that these patients have chorioretinal scars similar to those in the presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (POHS), but they have a low incidence of positive histoplasmin skin test reactions and calcified granulomata on chest x-ray films. Anterior chamber inflammation is a frequent finding. The epidemiologic background of these patients is different from those with POHS. The subjects in this study were also different from patients with birdshot or vitiliginous choroiditis and acute posterior multifoca

The present study describes a model of multifocal septic choroiditis with serous retinal detachment after intracarotid injection of Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus faecalis. The fundus lesions occurred mainly in the tapetal area and, on ophthalmoscopic examination, were more extensive after S. aureus than after S. faecalis injection. On histopathologic examination there were microabscesses in the inner choroid and subretinal space, disrupting the outer retina but sparing the inner retina.

Our experience with the evolving techniques we have reported has not resulted in significant increases in visual acuity over pretreatment levels. However, argon laser photocoagulation, properly given, does destroy subretinal neovascularization. The most significant points of technique are (1) heavy treatment of the entire frond; (2) accomplishment of this usually by a 200-mu spot size, 0.2 to 0.5 second, at 300 to 400 mW. power; (3) the eye under retrobulbar anesthesia, and (4) following the case at intervals of three to five days until the neovascular frond is destroyed. If the edge of the ne

PURPOSE: To audit the current clinical process whereby patients with presumed sarcoid choroiditis are referred for systemic investigation. To describe demographic and phenotypic heterogeneity of patients clinically diagnosed with presumed sarcoid choroiditis, and to compare between those who were concordant and non-concordant to the 2019 International Workshop on Ocular Sarcoidosis (IWOS) diagnostic criteria.
METHOD: Retrospective audit of patients clinically diagnosed with presumed sarcoid choroiditis evidenced by the presence of hypo-fluorescent dark dots (HDDs) on indocyanine green angiogr

PURPOSE: To describe a case of tubercular serpiginous-like choroiditis that progressed, despite antitubercular medication, corticosteroids, and immunomodulatory treatment, which ultimately quieted after two intravitreal methotrexate injections.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 35-year-old woman reported a shadow in the left eye for 2 weeks. She presented with tubercular serpiginous-like choroiditis in the right eye 2 years prior. At that time, she was started on antituberculosis therapy but was noncompliant and lost to follow-up. On re-presentation, there was a new active left-eye serpiginou

The diagnosis of OTB (Ocular tuberculosis) is usually difficult to make. Definitive diagnosis requires the identification of M. tuberculosis organisms in ocular tissues or fluids, but samples are often difficult to obtain, and biopsy may be hard to justify. We describe a 50-years-old Maghreb male, who presented a multifocal choroiditis associated with a choroidal tuberculoma on the left eye. Based on positive QuantiFERON-TB-Gold test and suggestive clinical and radiographic findings, a diagnosis of presumed ocular tuberculosis was made. Serial swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT)

PURPOSE: To present a case of an atypical unilateral multifocal choroiditis that occurred in temporal association to an acute covid-19 infection.
METHOD: A 23-year-old highly myopic man presented with reduced vision in the right eye while under medical quarantine due to direct exposure to COVID-19 infection. Five days after developing mild COVID symptoms (fever, cough and anosmia) he noticed acute painless loss of central vision in his right eye. Systemic evaluation at presentation was positive for SARS-CoV-2 detected via both a pharyngeal swab and serologic titers. Dilated fundus exam was pe

Tuberculous optic neuropathy that includes papillitis, neuroretinitis, and optic nerve tubercle is a rare presentation of ocular tuberculosis. Though contagious spread from choroid following the hematogenous dissemination of the bacilli has been implicated in the optic nerve involvement, unlike neuroretinitis, optic nerve and choroidal involvement are usually considered as two separate clinical entities. We report a case of optic nerve involvement in a 33-year-old male who had concurrent choroidal involvement at present and also in the past. A strong history of contact with patients of pulmona

PURPOSE: We describe with multimodal imaging the presentation and follow-up for a patient with idiopathic multifocal choroiditis and a transient peripapillary white ring.
METHODS: Case report.
RESULTS: A 39-year-old Asian woman was initially seen for an evaluation of lattice degeneration in 2015. Her medical history included Graves disease and psoriasis. Best-corrected visual acuity was 20/25 in her right eye and 20/25 in her left eye. Ultra-widefield fundus autofluorescence imaging showed a curvilinear hyperautofluorescent line in her right eye. One year later, the patient returned complain

PURPOSE: To report a case series of two cases of granulomatosis with polyangiitis, previously known as Wegener granulomatosis, which developed macular necrosis, not previously associated with granulomatosis with polyangiitis, healed with fibrosis, despite aggressive immune-modulating therapy and good control of systemic disease.
METHODS: Case series of two cases with observation of treatment progress.
RESULTS: The results reported the progress of response to treatment in the two cases, which resulted in the final outcome of fibrosis in the macula region, despite being on aggressive immune-mo
