Do patients with severe acne vulgaris prefer the evening chronotype more? A case-control study.

This study aimed to investigate sleep quality, chronotype preferences, anxiety, and depression levels in patients diagnosed with acne vulgaris and compare them with healthy controls. This cross-sectional case-control study included 92 patients with acne vulgaris and 59 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Acne severity was assessed using the Global Acne Grading System (GAGS); sleep quality using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI); chronotype preferences using the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ); and anxiety and depression levels using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and B

Alterations of structural-functional coupling in bipolar disorder patients with suicidal ideation correlated with chronotype.

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder (BD) carries high suicidality risk. While suicidal ideation (SI) correlates with evening chronotype, their joint neuroimaging mechanisms remain unclear. Unimodal MRI lacks sensitivity to detect coupled structural-functional abnormalities. We hypothesized BD patients with SI (BD-SI) would exhibit altered structural connectivity-functional connectivity (SC-FC) coupling versus BD patients without SI (BD-nSI) and healthy controls (HC), potentially correlating with chronotype. METHODS: We recruited 138 BD-SI, 46 BD-nSI, and 280 HC. Resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI

An integrative approach prioritizes the orphan GPR61 genomic region in tissue-specific regulation of chronotype.

OBJECTIVES: Chronotype, a manifestation of circadian rhythms, affects morning or evening preferences and ease of getting-up. This study explores the genetic basis of morning chronotype and ease of getting-up, focusing on the G protein-coupled receptor locus, GPR61. METHODS: We analyzed the genetic correlation between chronotype and ease of getting-up using linkage disequilibrium score regression with summary statistics from the UK Biobank (n=453,379). We prioritized shared signals between chronotype and ease of getting-up using the Human Genetic Evidence (HuGE) score. We assessed the signific

Assessment of potential myopia risk factors, including chronotype, in Estonian adolescents: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Myopia is a growing healthcare concern worldwide. Increasing evidence suggests that sleep and circadian rhythms may be associated with myopia. Furthermore, the risk factors of myopia have not been studied in the Estonian population to date. This study aimed to evaluate chronotype, lifestyle factors, and parental myopia in relation to myopia in Estonian secondary school students. METHODS: Grade 10 students from three secondary schools in Tallinn, each with distinct focuses: one science-oriented, one arts-oriented, and one sports-oriented, were invited to participate. They underwent

Sleep inertia drives the association of evening chronotype with psychiatric disorders: epidemiological and genetic evidence.

Evening chronotypes (a.k.a. "night-owls") are held to be at greater risk for psychiatric disorders. This is postulated to be due to delayed circadian timing increasing the likelihood of circadian misalignment in an early-oriented society. Circadian misalignment is known to heighten sleep inertia, the difficulty transitioning from sleep to wake characterized by low arousal and cognitive impairment, and evening chronotypes experience greater sleep inertia. Therefore, difficulty awakening may explain the relationship between evening chronotype and psychiatric disorders by acting as a biomarker of

Sleep quality, chronotype, temperament and bipolar features as predictors of depressive symptoms among medical students.

The assessment of risk factors is a crucial step in the prevention and treatment of affective disorders and should encompass personal dispositions. The aim of this study was to assess the value of chronotype and temperament as independent predictors of depressive symptoms among medical students. The study surveyed 140 students of the Faculty of Medicine with a battery of questionnaires: the Beck Depression Index (BDI), Hypomania Checklist 32 (HCL-32), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Chronotype Questionnaire and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised. The results were tested using Pea

Night shift work, chronotype and prostate cancer risk in the MCC-Spain case-control study.

Night shift work has been classified as a probable human carcinogen based on experimental studies and limited human evidence on breast cancer. Evidence on other common cancers, such as prostate cancer, is scarce. Chronotype is an individual characteristic that may relate to night work adaptation. We evaluated night shift work with relation to prostate cancer, taking into account chronotype and disease severity in a population based case-control study in Spain. We included 1,095 prostate cancer cases and 1,388 randomly selected population controls. We collected detailed information on shift sch

An examination of chronotype associations with symptoms of depression, PTSD, and sleep disturbances in US military veterans.

PURPOSE: Chronotype is associated with depression and PTSD, which are common mental health conditions among military veterans. Few studies have examined chronotype in this population, which is known to also have more severe sleep difficulties than non-veteran community-residing adults. METHODS: In the current study, self-reported sleep and mental health symptoms were examined by chronotype using data collected from US military veterans (N = 144) participating in a multi-site post-deployment health repository. Analysis of covariance was used to assess symptom measure differences by chronotype

Late chronotypes are associated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in women with breast cancer.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy, that is, the administration of chemotherapy before surgery, has been commonly used for locally advanced breast cancer to improve the surgical outcomes and increase the opportunity for breast-conserving therapy. Women with breast cancer often receive an anthracycline-based regimen as the neoadjuvant chemotherapy, which is associated with a high risk of emesis. Despite the development of novel antiemetics, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) has been commonly reported as a major adverse effect, affecting the quality of life of the patients. However, the fact
