Integrated point-of-care ultrasound training in a Rwandan medical school: curriculum development, implementation, and outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) training has been adopted in some undergraduate medical education programs globally, though it remains uncommon in low-income settings. In 2022, the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda established an integrated, longitudinal POCUS curriculum spanning preclinical through clinical training, designed to produce general practitioners competent in POCUS examinations most needed in district hospital settings. We describe this curriculum and report educational outcomes from multiple student cohorts. METHODS: We developed competency-based learning

Dependability of Entrustable Professional Activity Portfolios in Otorhinolaryngology Residency: Nationwide Generalizability and Decision Study.

BACKGROUND: Competency-based medical education increasingly uses digital workplace assessment platforms to collect longitudinal evidence of trainees' readiness for progressive responsibility. Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) translate competencies into observable clinical work, but individual workplace observations are context-dependent and may not support dependable progression decisions. Empirical guidance remains limited on how many observations, faculty raters, EPA titles, and workplace settings are needed for a dependable EPA portfolio. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to estimate E

Robotic Integration Without Laparoscopic Displacement: Protecting Basic Cases in Surgical Training.

Robotic surgery is now an essential part of general surgery practice and general surgery training. The educational risk is not robotic adoption itself but unmeasured substitution: the replacement of foundational laparoscopic experience in common operations before robotic proficiency can be defined, assessed, and entrusted. This Perspective argues for platform-balanced training in which robotics expands resident capability without consuming the basic laparoscopic case pool. The proposed framework: (1) separates operative logs by platform, role, and task; (2) protects junior laparoscopic experie

Synthesising Generative Artificial Intelligence Competency Domains for Medical Education Faculty.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI (GenAI), is reshaping clinical care and medical education, requiring medical education faculty to develop new competencies. As GenAI becomes integrated into clinical and teaching workflows, faculty must guide learners in AI-enabled environments. Although existing frameworks outline AI competencies for clinicians or learners, few synthesise competencies specifically for faculty roles. This review addresses that gap by synthesising AI and GenAI competency frameworks to identify GenAI domains relevant to medical education faculty.

Integrating Artificial Intelligence Competencies Across the Six ACGME Core Competencies: A Proposed Framework for Graduate Medical Education.

Although Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly embedded in clinical practice and Graduate Medical Education (GME), AI-specific competencies are not yet explicitly represented as a distinct domain within the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's (ACGME) six core competency framework. The ACGME's ongoing consideration of AI in its Common Program Requirements revision process signals an emerging recognition of the need to address this gap. Over 1200 FDA-authorized AI medical devices, unregulated generative AI tools in clinical workflows, and a proliferating state legislati
