We provide evidence for activation of the complement cascade in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord and in the gracile nucleus in the brainstem following sciatic nerve transection in the adult rat. Streptococcus suis serotype 2 (S. suis 2)-induced sepsis and meningitis are often accompanied by bacteremia. METHODS: The blood samples from 8 cases with medicamentosa-like dermatitis in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th weeks after admitting to hospital were examined for liver function, immunoglobulin and some complement indexes. Thirty nine workers occupationally exposed to TCE were investigated for urinary TCE and some immuno-complement indexes. The TCE concentrations of air in workplaces were monitored.

Stargardt macular degeneration is an inherited retinal disease caused by mutations in the ATP-binding cassette subfamily A member 4 (ABCA4) gene. Complement fragments (C3, C3d, C5a), thromboxane B2 (TxB2), 6-keto-PGF1 alpha and immunoreactive trypsin (IRT) were measured in 98 patients at risk of developing the adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS): 53 multiple trauma, 28 abdominal surgery and 17 acute pancreatitis. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) is synthesized in pancreatic β-cells and co-secreted with insulin. Aggregation and formation of IAPP-amyloid play a critical role in β-cell death in type 2 diabetic patients.
