Successful Treatment of Concurrent Bullous Pemphigoid and Psoriasis Vulgaris with Abrocitinib: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Bullous pemphigoid (BP) and psoriasis are common immune-related dermatosis. The concurrence of these two diseases is rare. The coexistence of the two conditions imposes a difficult therapeutic challenge. We reported a case of concurrence of BP and psoriasis vulgaris which was successfully treated by abrocitinib. Based on our research, abrocitinib appears to be an effective and safe therapeutic option for patients with concurrent BP and psoriasis.

Concurrent management of vitiligo and acquired disorders of hyperpigmentation: a comprehensive literature review and current practice gaps.

Few studies discuss the co-management of vitiligo and acquired hyperpigmentation disorders (AHD) such as melasma, erythema dyschromicum perstans, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, drug-induced hyperpigmentation, and lichen planus pigmentosus. This review discusses clinical studies examining co-management strategies and identifies current practice gaps. Dermatology Life Quality Index scores are higher in individuals with vitiligo or melasma. It is plausible that populations experiencing both conditions may exhibit worsened psychological outcomes because of stigmas and perceived social beauty

Concurrent Benign Metastasizing Leiomyoma in the Abdominal Wall and Pelvic Cavity: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Benign metastatic leiomyoma (BML) is a histologically benign disease with invasive biological behavior. Most patients are women of childbearing age with a history of uterine leiomyoma. The progress of the disease is relatively slow, the prognosis is good, and most patients can survive for a long time. The lung is the common metastatic site, and BML with metastatic lesions outside the lung is very rare. A 37-year-old woman with multiple BML in the abdominal wall and pelvic cavity after uterine leiomyoma surgery was admitted to our hospital. Combined with the clinical data of this case and revie

Laboratory Perspective of Concurrent Acute Myeloid Leukemia and COVID-19: a Case Report and Review of Literature.

BACKGROUND: Whether the diagnosis and treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) affect the clinical course of patients with hematologic malignancies has been of interest during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: We describe a 47-year-old female who was concurrently diagnosed with COVID-19 and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). RESULTS: She developed COVID-19 pneumonia which required treatment with remdesivir and dexamethasone, and induction therapy for t-AML was delayed. After her COVID-19 was resolved and isolation ended, follow-up bone marrow examination showed decreased leukemic burden. C

Case Report: Concurrence of Dermatomyositis and Autoimmune Blistering Diseases: Two Case Reports and a Literature Review.

Dermatomyositis (DM) is an idiopathic inflammatory myopathy primarily involving skin and muscles. Clinically amyopathic dermatomyositis (CADM), a subset of DM, presents with characteristic cutaneous manifestations without clinical evidence of myositis. Although rare, vesiculobullous eruptions could develop in DM patients. Such "bullous DM" is commonly considered a sign of internal malignancy. However, some cases with similar presentations were diagnosed as autoimmune blistering disease eventually. Herein, we reported two cases of CADM with autoimmune blisters formed. Case 1 presented with vesi

Concurrent presentation of a hemorrhagic pericardial effusion and venous thromboembolism in malignancy: a systematic review of case studies.

The concurrent presentation of symptomatic malignant pericardial hemorrhage and venous thromboembolism is a rare event that poses a clinical dilemma. Existing VTE guidelines do not indicate when, or if, anticoagulation therapy should be started after the treatment of the pericardial bleed. We performed a systematic review to compile the published clinical evidence on the occurrence of coexisting pericardial hemorrhage and VTE in cancer patients and to describe the clinical presentations and bleeding and thrombosis outcomes before and after anticoagulation therapy. We studied published case rep

Concurrent inflammatory myopathy and myasthenia gravis with or without thymic pathology: A case series and literature review.

OBJECTIVES: The association of myasthenia gravis (MG) and inflammatory myositis (IM) is rare and typically only one of the diseases is present. The management of the 2 diseases differs, therefore it is important to recognize the concomitant presentation. Here, we report a case series of 7 patients with co-existing MG and IM with review of the literature. METHOD: We identified 7 patients with concurrent MG and IM who were followed at the Neuromuscular Disease Program at a tertiary referral center in Vancouver, British Columbia from 2004 to 2017. RESULT: All 7 patients had ocular or bulbar inv

Schizophrenia and rheumatic disease. A study on the concurrence of inflammatory joint diseases and a review of 58 case-records.

The coincidental occurrence of schizophrenia and rheumatoid arthritis is considered to be low in relation to the prevalence of the two diseases. In the present study, data from the patient statistics prepared by the Swedish Social Welfare Board were examined for the occurrence of rheumatic disease in schizophrenic patients. With the aid of the statistics and of questionnaires, 58 case-records were collected and studied. Very few cases were found of co-existing schizophrenia and inflammatory joint disease, rheumatoid arthritis in particular. There were, however, some cases of genuine schizophre

Concurrent myopathy and inflammatory cardiac disease in COVID-19 patients: a case series and literature review.

Adult COVID-19 patients can present with acute muscle and/or cardiac involvement. Our study aims to describe the incidence and characteristics of patients with the co-occurrence of COVID-19 myopathy and inflammatory cardiac disease. We retrospectively reviewed all COVID-19 patients admitted to a large tertiary center to assess the co-occurrence of myopathy and inflammatory cardiac disease. We conducted a literature review of prior relevant case reports. There were three COVID-19 patients with concurrent involvement from our center and five cases in the published literature. Overall, mean age w

Concurrent baseline diagnosis of giant cell arteritis and polymyalgia rheumatica - A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) can be concurrent diseases. We aimed to estimate the point-prevalence of concurrent GCA and PMR. Additionally, an incidence rate (IR) of GCA presenting after PMR diagnosis in patients was estimated. METHODS: Two authors performed a systematic literature search, data extraction and risk of bias assessment independently. Studies assessing cohorts of patients presenting with both GCA and PMR were included. The outcomes were point-prevalence of concurrent GCA and PMR and IR for development of GCA after PMR diagnosis. A meta

Treatment of Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma with TPF and Concurrent Chemo-Radiation: Case Report and Literature Review.

Sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC) is a rare, poorly differentiated and aggressive malignancy of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses first reported by Frierson et al. in 1986 with less than 300 known cases reported since then. Due to the rarity and aggressive nature of the disease, there is a lack of consensus regarding optimal management in these patients. Treatment decisions have mostly been guided by a small number of cases series and can vary widely between institutions. In this unique case presentation, we review a case of sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma in a young Hispan

Concurrent use of prescription drugs and herbal medicinal products in older adults: a systematic review protocol.

BACKGROUND: There has been a global increase in the use of herbal medicinal products (HMPs). About a quarter of UK adults use HMPs, bought over the counter by self-prescription and often not disclosed to healthcare professionals. Potential herb-drug interaction is a clinical concern, with older people at greater risk because of co-morbidities and slower clearance of pharmacologically active compounds. While there is a good understanding of general herbal medicine use by older people, less is known about the extent and implications of concurrent use with prescription medicines. The aim of this

Concurrent sigmoid volvulus and herniation through broad ligament defect during pregnancy: case report and literature review.

Sigmoid volvulus in pregnancy is a rare complication. The combination of sigmoid volvulus and sigmoid herniation through a broad ligament together with placental abruption in pregnancy is a most unusual obstetrical emergency. We report the case of a previously well 32-year-old Mexican woman who was transferred to our institution at 28 weeks gestation with threatened preterm labor. We considered the possibility of appendicitis. While awaiting a surgical consult, an emergency cesarean section was carried out for a prolonged deceleration of the fetal heart.
