INTRODUCTION: Intraocular pressure (IOP) determination using dynamic contour tonometry (DCT) has been considered to be independent of central corneal thickness (CCT), while Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) is known to be influenced by various corneal properties. In this study, IOP was measured before and 1 day after cataract surgery using GAT and DCT to investigate the possible effects of corneal edema on IOP measurements.

Lymphangiogenesis is essential for fluid homeostasis in vascularized tissues. In the normally avascular cornea, however, pathological lymphangiogenesis mediates diseases like corneal transplant rejection, dry eye disease, and allergy. So far, a physiological role for lymphangiogenesis in a primarily avascular site such as the cornea has not been described. A 3-month-old boy with primary congenital glaucoma developed a transient corneal endothelial opacity after needle bleb revision with adjunctive 5-fluorouracil. We report an unusual presentation of presumed mitomycin C toxicity with possible subsequent hypersensitization to other medication toxicities. A 50-year-old female presented three months after photorefractive keratectomy with intraoperative mitomycin C for the management of persistent epithelial defects, corneal haze, and edema. She was found to have used an expansive and rapidly changing medical regimen which may have caused additional toxicity. These medications included besifloxacin, bromfenac, and ketotifen. A 79-year-old woman presented with a 1-week history of sudden onset of decreased vision, pain, and redness in the right eye. Ocular history included uneventful cataract surgery in both eyes more than 8 years prior to presentation. Slitlamp examination revealed significant corneal edema and mild iritis. Gonioscopy revealed a retained lens nuclear fragment in the inferior angle. Surgical removal of the fragment improved the patient's condition. The retained nuclear fragment presumably lodged behind the iris at the time of the initial surgery and spontaneously moved forward more than 8 years late

BACKGROUND: Small Descemet membrane detachments after cataract surgery are relatively common and most cases do not require any secondary surgical intervention and can be treated conservatively. However, in case of advanced Descemet membrane detachment (DMD), it needs to be recognized and treated appropriately. PURPOSE: To compare the protective effect of Healon5 (sodium hyaluronate 2.3%) and Amvisc Plus (sodium hyaluronate 1.6%) against corneal edema and their association with postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) spikes in patients having phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.
