We compared the sensitivities of bone marrow aspirate culture (BMAC), 3 ml 1:4 and 8 ml 1:10 blood-to-broth ratio blood cultures (BC), 8 ml streptokinase clot culture (STKCC) and rectal swab culture (RSC) for isolating Salmonella typhi and S. paratyphi A from 61 patients with typhoid or paratyphoid fever in Jakarta, Indonesia. The current study explores the problem with the lack of measurement invariance for the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) by addressing two issues: conceptual heterogeneity of narcissism and methodological issues related to the binary character of data. Chater and Christiansen explain cultural complexity as emerging through local social tinkering. We argue that this account can be complemented by two minimal principles: sequence representation as a cognitive prerequisite for cumulative culture and cultural-systems dynamics as a formal account of how interacting traits stabilize, constrain, and reshape later tinkering. BACKGROUND: The optimal use of blood cultures to determine the etiology of febrile episodes in neutropenic children has not been well-defined.
METHODS: Single volume blood cultures using the Pediatric ISOLATOR System (ISO), were compared with variable, weight-based culture volumes using the BACTEC 9240 Culture System (BAC).
