Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) specific for caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus (CAEV) were characterized using a colorimetric immunocytochemistry assay to measure surviving target cells. Peripheral blood lymphocytes from a CAEV-infected goat were cytotoxic to autologous, CAEV-infected dermal fibroblast target cells following in vitro stimulation of the lymphocytes with CAEV antigen. Infection by hepatitis B (HBV) and/or delta virus (HDV), is the most frequent acquired pathology in patients affected by end-stage hepatic disease, candidates for liver transplant. To reduce the risk of virus reactivation after surgery, we used alpha Interferon (IFN) therapy in patients who were HBV-DNA and/or HDV-RNA positives before transplant. BACKGROUND: Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating but poorly-understood disease. ME/CFS symptoms include immune system effects alongside incapacitating fatigue and post-exertional disease exacerbation. In response to tuberculin, lymphocytes derived from BCG-sensitized guinea pigs elaborated soluble materials capable of inducing some reactions in vitro which correlated with the cell-mediated immune response in vivo. Antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) is a lytic mechanism in which a specific antibody acts cooperatively with leukocytic effector cells to induce target cell lysis. In a 75-year-old man, agranulocytosis and septicemia developed after eight weeks of quinidine sulfate therapy. An IgG antibody requiring the presence of quinidine was shown by complement-dependent leukocytotoxicity and leukoagglutination reactions. Whole blood and plasma from animals in the acute stage of leptospirosis contained a toxic factor which produced a cytopathic effect on fibroblastic L cell monolayers. Firm adsorption of cytotoxic factor (CTF) to L cells occurred within 1 h. The highest titer of CTF in plasma was reached at 24 h and declined after 48 h after the inoculation of leptospires. Toxic effects were also obtained with intracerebral inoculation of mice with plasma containing CTF. Mice showed signs of motor instability and muscular spasms shortly after inoculation with CTF. Death usually occurred within 1 h.
