PURPOSE: The goal of this study was to describe the outcomes associated with daptomycin treatment of documented gram-positive infections in patients with neutropenia.
METHODS: All patients with neutropenia (≤500 cells/m(3)) and at least one documented gram-positive culture from 2006-2009 were identified from a retrospective, multicenter, and observational registry (Cubicin(®) Outcome Registry and Experience (CORE(®))). Investigators assessed patient outcome (cured, improved, failed, nonevaluable) at the end of daptomycin therapy. All patients were included in the safety analysis.

We present 2 elderly patients who developed lung infiltrates associated with eosinophilia during intravenous daptomycin treatment. Both patients improved quickly after daptomycin was stopped and steroid treatment was initiated. However, complete recovery did not occur, and both patients became chronically steroid dependent.

We tested the activity of daptomycin against 76 Listeria monocytogenes isolates from cerebrospinal fluid by broth dilution and Etest methods. For the broth dilution method, the MIC range was 1.0 to 8.0 and the MIC at which 90% of the isolates tested were inhibited (MIC(90)) was 4.0 mg/liter. For the Etest method, the MIC range was 1.0 to 4.0 and the MIC(90) was 4.0 mg/liter. Presently, daptomycin cannot be recommended for the treatment of L. monocytogenes meningitis.

We used a novel screening method to look for synergy between daptomycin and 18 other antibiotics against 19 strains of high-level vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) (vancomycin MIC > or = 256 mg/L). AIMS: To evaluate the prevalence of chronic diseases (CDs) among older patients in German general practices (GPs).
METHODS: A total of 840,319 patients older than 65 years (359,289 male and 481,030 female) who consulted a GP between January and December 2014 were selected. Ten different CDs were considered: hypertension, lipid metabolism, diabetes, coronary heart disease, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure, stroke, chronic kidney disease and osteoporosis.
