Demographic characteristics of children with growth hormone deficiency from 1996 to 2015 in Japan: 20 years of data from the foundation for growth science in Japan.

Growth hormone (GH) deficiency (GHD) in children is a heterogeneous condition that includes several entities of various severities. GH treatment has been affected by various factors. Because comprehensive analyses for Japanese children with GHD over time are scarce, we investigated the baseline characteristics of patients with GHD at the start of GH treatment between 1996 and 2015 using data from the Foundation for Growth Science in Japan. During the registration period, 19,717 subjects were determined to be eligible for GH treatment as GHD. Overall analyses revealed that there were twice the

Citizen science to complement the surveillance of Triatominae (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) with data of Trypanosoma cruzi (Kinetoplastea: Trypanosomatidae) infection and spatial distribution models in northeast Mexico.

The primary transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi, causative agent of Chagas disease, to humans and animals is through the feces and urine of Triatominae. Therefore, knowledge of their ecology and distribution is crucial for establishing effective surveillance programs with citizen participation. This is coupled with geographic distribution models to predict the risk of transmission in the areas most affected by Chagas disease. Therefore, this study aims to: a) document and validate citizen participation on the iNaturalist in the collection and observation of triatomines, as well as exploring risk

Clinical characteristics, etiologies and pathophysiology of patients with severe short stature with severe GH deficiency: questionnaire study on the data registered with the foundation for growth science, Japan.

In this study, we sent questionnaires to doctors treating severe short stature with severe GH deficiency (GHD) (height SDS (HtSDS) below -4 and all peak GH to provocative stimuli below 2 micro/L) (abbreviated as Severe Case), and obtained effective replies of 51 cases. The clinical characteristics, etiologies, and pathophysiology of these patients were examined. Among the 51 Severe Cases no consanguinity was observed, 44 were IGHD (24 males and 20 females), 3 were GH-1 gene deletion, 2 were Pit-1 gene mutation, and 2 were achondroplasia. HtSDS in these Severe Cases was already remarkably low a

Using Data Science Tools to Explore Rate Matching in a Nickel-Catalyzed Cross-Electrophile Coupling of Alkyl and Aryl Halides (Cl, Br) with a Tridentate Monoanionic Ligand.

Nickel-catalyzed cross-electrophile coupling (XEC) between aryl and alkyl electrophiles has emerged as an enabling synthetic method, yet predicting the outcomes of specific electrophile pairs is difficult due to the complexity of the mechanistic pathways. It has been proposed that "rate matching" between the oxidative addition of the aryl halide and the rate of formation of the alkyl radical, in addition to the stability of the Ni(II)-Ar complex, dictates the yield of the cross-coupling product. To probe this quantitatively, we developed a new tridentate monoanionic ligand that activatesalkyl

Tuberculosis in households with infectious cases in Kampala city: Harnessing health data science for new insights on an ancient disease with persistent, unresolved problems (DS-IAFRICA-TB) Study Protocol.

Tuberculosis (TB) is prevalent in Uganda and overlaps with a high rate of HIV/TB coinfection. While nearly all hospital-based TB cases in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, show clear TB symptoms, 30% or more of undiagnosed TB cases found through active screening are asymptomatic. Additionally, the host risk factors for TB in Kampala cannot be distinguished from environmental risk factors. These TB-specific challenges are just part of the complexity, especially in areas with high HIV/AIDS burden. Data science techniques, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms

Genetic toxicity assessment: employing the best science for human safety evaluation part VI: when salt and sugar and vegetables are positive, how can genotoxicity data serve to inform risk assessment?

This opinion piece examines the current approaches in the design and evaluation of genotoxicity data and recommends an alternative that would provide information that could be more useful to human risk assessment. It is suggested that genotoxicity studies, both in vitro and in vivo, be designed similar to other traditional toxicology studies, such that a dose-response relationship is characterized, including identification of a "no-observed-adverse-effect-level" dose. It is further suggested that genotoxicity tests should no longer be designed or interpreted in isolation but should be examined

The response to growth hormone treatment in prepubertal children with growth hormone deficiency in Japan: Comparing three consecutive years of treatment data of The Foundation for Growth Science in Japan between the 1990s and 2000s.

Growth hormone (GH) treatment for children with GH deficiency (GHD) is effective in improving adult height. To achieve favorable effects, GH treatment before puberty is very important, because prepubertal height gain is highly correlated with total height gain. However, no report has studied the effects by analyzing a nationwide data from recent GHD patients in Japan. We investigated the response to GH treatment using data compiled in the Foundation for Growth Science in Japan, and compared the effects between the 1990s and 2000s using analysis of covariance. We analyzed 534 prepubertal GHD su

More fraudulent history of cancer risk assessment: The US National Academy of Sciences Biological Effects of Atomic Radiation (BEAR) I Genetics Panel used falsified data greatly exaggerating hereditary/cancer risks.

This paper reports that data used by the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Biological Effects of Atomic Radiation (BEAR) I Genetics Panel (1956) to estimate risks of hereditary damage in the US population were falsified, greatly exaggerating the risks. These risk estimates were mostly based on the first of many mouse specific-locus experiments of William and Liane Russell, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, which were determined in 1996 to be erroneous by a US Department of Energy (DOE) investigation of scientific misconduct. The basis of the falsification is that William Russell removed data

Rudi Kundini, Pamoja Kundini (RKPK): study protocol for a hybrid type 1 randomized effectiveness-implementation trial using data science and economic incentive strategies to strengthen the continuity of care among people living with HIV in Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: Economic incentives can improve clinical outcomes among in-care people living with HIV (PLHIV), but evidence is limited for their effectiveness among out-of-care PLHIV or those at risk of disengagement. We propose a type 1 hybrid effectiveness-implementation study to advance global knowledge about the use of economic incentives to strengthen the continuity of HIV care and accelerate global goals for HIV epidemic control. METHODS: The Rudi Kundini, Pamoja Kundini study will evaluate two implementation models of an economic incentive strategy for supporting two groups of PLHIV in Ta
