Accuracy of individual mandibular motion records using intraoral scanner for fixed implant- supported prosthesis designs: a comparative study.

BACKGROUND: Accurate occlusal registration is critical for successful dental implant treatments. Traditional mechanical articulation provides insight into occlusal relationships but cannot replicate complex mandibular movements accurately. CAD/CAM advancements, including virtual articulators, enable dynamic occlusion analysis using either average-value settings or individualized mandibular movement data, depending on the system used. Patient Specific Motion (PSM) technology, using intraoral scanners to record actual mandibular movements, offers enhanced functional occlusal design. Despite thes

A digital workflow for fabricating a mandibular guide plane prosthesis for patients about to undergo hemimandibulectomy: A dental technique.

Patients who undergo hemimandibulectomy have multiple functional impairments, and early initiation of guidance therapy has been associated with an improved definitive occlusal relationship. This article describes a digital workflow to determine the angle and form the shape of the flange of the mandibular guide plane prosthesis (MGPP), and to create an MGPP before mandibular resection surgery. A virtual articulator was used to achieve the movements of the maxilla relative to the mandible, and the shape of the MGPP was adjusted by dynamic occlusion. The MGPP and mandibular case were printed usin

The Use of 4-mm Implants Splinted to 10-mm Implants for Replacement of Multiple Missing Teeth in the Posterior Maxilla Region with Expanded Maxillary Sinus. An Observational Cases Series: Patient Characteristics and Preliminary Results.

This study aimed to rehabilitate shortened maxillary dental arch with splinted crowns by connecting ultra-short implants with longer ones. In the posterior maxilla of 11 patients, one 10-mm (n = 11) and one or two ultra-short 4-mm (n = 17) dental implants were inserted. The insertion torque was lower than 20 Ncm in 55% of the 10-mm implants and in 94% of the 4-mm implants (P > .05). Median (range) implant stability quotients at the time of insertion and after 6 months were 61 (14 to 72) and 68 (51 to 79), respectively, for 4-mm implants, and 66 (52 to 78) and 78 (60 to 83), respectively, for 1

Impairment of an atrophic mandible by preparation of the implant cavity: a biomechanical study.

An important complication during insertion of implants in atrophic mandibles is the fracture that can be induced by preparation of the cavity. We designed this study to identify which configuration of cavities in the interforaminal region was the least likely to fracture. An electromechanical testing machine was used to measure breaking loads of specifically-designed synthetic models of atrophic mandibles. The implant cavities correlated with the common clinical patterns. Intact atrophied synthetic mandibles broke at a mean (SD) load of 729.48 (59.94) N (control group). Models with four differ

Two-Phase Material Shape Optimization of an Additively Manufactured Integrated Metal and Ceramic Resin Implant-Supported Dental Crown.

The screw-retained implant-supported crown is a durable, aesthetic restoration, but debonding between the crown and abutment remains a challenge to survivability. The purpose of this work was to devise an abutment shape that can be embedded into the crown while the crown is being additively manufactured. The result was a mechanically retained, no-adhesive abutment and crown unit that is mounted to the implant fixture. To generate the best internal shape for the new restoration design concept, a shape optimization method was developed using nTop software with the objective of pursuing low struc

Improving the accuracy of complete arch implant digital scans by using auxiliary clips for intraoral scan bodies: A dental technique.

A technique to improve the accuracy of complete arch implant intraoral digital scans and the accuracy of their virtual casts is described. Obtaining accurate complete arch implant intraoral digital scans with an intraoral scanner is challenging because of the smooth and movable tissues of edentulous areas. The described technique uses auxiliary clips attached to intraoral scan bodies to cover interimplant edentulous spans with immobile tooth-like geometric references that are more favorable for intraoral scanning. The technique is designed to be user friendly and compatible with any intraoral

CAD/CAM lithium disilicate ceramic crowns: Effect of occlusal thickness on fracture resistance and fractographic analysis.

This study uses fracture tests and fractographical analysis to compare computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) lithium disilicate molar crowns with the previous occlusal thickness recommendation of 1.5-mm, the new recommendation of 1.0-mm, and a less invasive thickness of 0.8-mm. After fatigue application, fracture tests and fractographic analysis were conducted. The fracture resistance of CAD/CAM lithium disilicate molar crowns was different depending on the occlusal thickness of the restoration, and decreased with lower the thickness. However, the fracture resistance

Historical development of root analogue implants: a review of published papers.

The timetable for placing a dental implant can be crucial in the reduction of resorption of the socket after an extraction. The association of immediate implantation with an implant that copies the anatomy of the extracted root seems to add benefits in limiting the hard and soft tissue changes that may occur. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the historical development of all types of root analogue implants from their beginning to the present day. To our knowledge the first individualised ones were described in 1969. Later, the use of titanium instead of the polymers that
