Focal Bone-Marrow Defects in the Jawbone Determined by Ultrasonography-Validation of New Trans-Alveolar Ultrasound Technique for Measuring Jawbone Density in 210 Participants.

Ultrasound imaging of the jawbone is not currently used in dental medicine to determine bone density. Bone-marrow defects in the human jawbone (BMDJ/FDOJ) are widely discussed in dentistry owing to their role in implant failures and as sources of inflammation in various immune diseases. The use of through-transmission alveolar ultrasonography (TAU) to locate BMDJ/FDOJ was evaluated in this study using a new TAU apparatus (TAU-n). The objective was to determine whether TAU-n readings accurately indicate the clinical parameters to detect BMDJ/FDOJ. Three parameters were compared with TAU-n measu

Utility of Transfacial Dental Ultrasonography in Evaluation of Cystic Jaw Lesions.

OBJECTIVES: Plain radiography has been widely used in dentistry. Because of the variability of the quality of equipment, radiographic technique, accuracy of interpretation, and radiation risk to the patients, the field is ripe for the introduction of other newer diagnostic modalities. In this report, we demonstrate the utility of ultrasonography in the diagnostic workup of cystic or cystlike lesions of the jaw. METHODS: We used a transfacial ultrasonographic scanning approach to examine 32 patients with clinical or radiographic presentation of a jaw cyst. Computed tomography and histopatholog

Trans-nasal endoscopic and intra-oral combined approach for odontogenic cysts.

Maxillary cysts are a common finding in maxillofacial surgery, dentistry and otolaryngology. Treatment is surgical; a traditional approach includes Caldwell-Luc and other intra-oral approaches. In this article, we analyse the outcomes of 9 patients operated on using a combined intra-oral and trans-nasal approach to the aforementioned disease. Although the number of patients is small, the good results of this study suggest that the combined approach might be a reliable treatment option.

Evaluation of the Effect of Different Contaminants on the Shear Bond Strength of Different Adhesive Systems - An In Vitro Study.

BACKGROUND: The bonding of restorative materials to tooth structure is made easier by dental adhesive solutions, which are essential in restorative dentistry. Nonetheless, there are a number of things that can affect how well they operate, such as oral environmental contaminants. METHODOLOGY: The research utilized a regulated experimental framework, segmenting the samples into smaller groups to symbolize discrete contamination scenarios observed in dentistry settings, such as artificial saliva and Viscostat clear contamination prior to and following bonding agent curing. The adhesive groups c

Skills acquisition in cavity preparation in conservative dentistry through virtual haptic simulation.

INTRODUCTION: Virtual reality-based training tools have become increasingly incorporated into health education in recent years. In dentistry, three-dimensional (3D) haptic simulators are used in several undergraduate programs to support preclinical training in procedures such as caries removal, cavity preparation, coronal access, prosthodontic preparation, periodontal therapy, and surgical techniques. The aim of this study was to explore student performance in cavity preparation tasks using a virtual haptic simulation system across different academic years of the dentistry degree. METHODS: Se

Minimum intervention oral care: staging and grading dental carious lesions in clinical practice.

Developmental staging of carious lesions is pivotal for appropriate ethical clinical decision-making in contemporary caries management. Accurate assessment of lesion extent/severity (staging) and activity (grading) allows practitioners to provide the most appropriate preventive advice and suitable interventions, enabling the implementation of evidence-based, person-focused, prevention-based, team-delivered and susceptibility-related phased minimum intervention oral care. Minimally invasive dentistry remains an important operative interventive option for cavitated lesions, but intervening at th

Problems associated with restorative dentistry.

Veterinary dental restorative problems, although not as involved as those in human dentistry, can be very technique sensitive and difficult to resolve. The resolution of particular problems usually depends on the choice and imagination or inventiveness of the operator. Restorative problems are usually those of a mechanical or iatrogenic nature rather than medical or pathologic. The restoration of the coronal aspect of endodontically treated teeth, teeth with carious lesions, coronal defects, and missing teeth constitute the bulk of restorative problems.

Jonathan Taft: dentistry's great forgotten hero.

One of the greatest figures in the development of the dental profession to the high status it enjoys today is all but forgotten. Jonathan Taft was dean of the second dental school in the world and wrote the most important clinical textbook of his time, one that was reprinted in many editions over a quarter of a century. Later appointed dean of the new University of Michigan Dental School, he instituted innovations in admission requirements and course of study that were copied by all subsequent schools and are the standards adhered to today. The editor of one of the most important dental journa

Minimally Invasive Bone Regeneration in Implant Dentistry: From Biological Principles to Indication-Driven Clinical Decision-Making-A Narrative Review.

Background/Objectives: Contemporary implant dentistry is increasingly oriented toward minimally invasive regenerative strategies designed to reduce surgical morbidity while preserving or improving clinical outcomes. Conventional bone augmentation procedures remain effective and biologically well established, but they may be associated with greater patient burden, increased risk of complications, and higher technical demands in selected clinical scenarios. This narrative review critically examines minimally invasive bone regeneration approaches in implant dentistry, with particular focus on the
