BACKGROUND: Safe and effective biosimilar medications have the potential to significantly increase access to these valuable drugs. The two current biosimilars available in dermatology in the United States (US) are infliximab and rituximab which were Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved in 2016 and 2018 respectively. There has been significant interest in this topic as a number of biosimilar versions of adalimumab will be available in 2023.
OBJECTIVE: This review will discuss biosimilar basics and the experience with biosimilars used in dermatology in the US, Asia, and Europe.

BACKGROUND: Eponyms are ubiquitous in dermatology; however, their usage trends have not been studied.
OBJECTIVE: To characterize the usage of eponyms in dermatology from 1880 to 2020.
METHODS: Candidate eponyms were collected from a textbook and an online resource. A subset of these eponyms was deemed to be dermatology-focused by a panel of experienced dermatologists. Python scripts were used to permute eponyms into multiple variations and automatically search PubMed using BioPython's Entrez library.

Topical medications are key agents in treating a range of skin conditions, as they allow affected areas to be targeted while avoiding systemic side effects. Although there is a wide range of topical agents available, it is helpful to be familiar with a few commonly used formulations. This article describes how to select appropriate agents, prescribe appropriate quantities, and counsel patients on safe and effective treatment regimens.

The effects of ultraviolet radiation on human skin have been studied for years, and both its harmful and therapeutic effects are well known. Exposure to UV light can lead to sunburn, immunosuppression, skin aging, and carcinogenesis, and photoprotection is strongly advocated. BACKGROUND: Acitretin has been used for the treatment of severe psoriasis for over 20 years.
OBJECTIVE: The current project was conceived to optimise patient care by recognising the role acitretin can play in the treatment of patients with psoriasis and those with other disorders of keratinisation.
METHODS: A literature review was conducted to explore the role of acitretin and to assess its value for dermatologic disorders other than severe psoriasis. A panel of Canadian dermatologists developed a clinical pathway using a case-based approach, focusing on specific patient features.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Genital dermatology represents a challenge to many providers. Though dermatologic lesions involving the genitalia may present to any of a number of practices, ranging from primary care to urology, gynecology, and dermatology, few training programs provide significant training regarding the diagnosis and management of genital dermatologic lesions. The purpose of this review is to provide urologists with an overview of common genital dermatological lesions that may be encountered in a clinic. The review also provides a guide to how to approach these conditions.

Light therapy has been incorporated into the art of healing and cosmesis for thousands of years and currently has found utility in many areas of medicine. Various modalities of cosmetic phototherapy are detailed, as well as the indications and mechanism of action for each modality. These modalities can be used to treat many common cosmetic conditions, including acne vulgaris, solar lentigo, and melasma. Phototherapy is considered a safe and effective option in the treatment of many of these disorders.
