The FDA approval of the gemcitabine intravesical system (Inlexzo/TAR-200) marks a breakthrough for BCG-unresponsive NMIBC with CIS. This novel drug-device combination enables sustained intravesical chemotherapy, achieving high complete response rates with acceptable safety. It represents a paradigm shift in bladder-sparing therapy, though long-term outcomes and accessibility remain critical considerations.

Goal: The purpose of this study is to develop a minimally invasive sputum aspiration device. Methods: The current general method is to insert a suction catheter into the trachea. However, sufficient suction cannot be obtained unless the catheter reaches the target. A new connection device "SPUTA VACUUMER" has been invented. The effectiveness of the SPUTA VACUUMER is tested in this study. Results: After manually inflating the lungs, the device applies suction pressure to the entire lungs. Peripheral sputum or foreign matter is effectively moved to the upper respiratory tract. Conclusions: "SPUT

OBJECTIVE: To systematically review the literature to determine if extended use of intrauterine devices, including the copper or levonorgestrel intrauterine device, beyond approved durations is effective and safe for preventing pregnancy.
STUDY DESIGN: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Global Index Medicus from inception through June 2019. We considered primary studies of women using the T380A copper or currently available levonorgestrel intrauterine devices past their approved duration (extended use). The primary outcome was pregnancy.

Two U.S. Food and Drug Administration public health warnings regarding the use of mesh in stress incontinence and prolapse repairs have had far-reaching clinical and legal consequences. In this commentary, we explore the drastically distinct results from these mesh-based procedures, which revealed systemic flaws with the medical device approval process across specialties and affected thousands of patients.

Following the pioneering work of King, Rashkind and their associates in the mid 1970s, a number of devices have been designed and tested in animal models and human subjects. Some devices have been discontinued and others were modified followed by further clinical trials. At the time of this writing, only one device, ASO, was approved by the FDA for general clinical use to occlude atrial defects. There are a number of other devices which are in clinical trials, including the CardioSeal/StarFlex, COD buttoned, Helex and transcatheter patch devices. The preceding paper reports on the utility of A

BACKGROUND: Device closure of a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is rapidly evolving, with the Amplatzer Piccolo Occluder (Abbott) receiving US Food and Drug Administration approval and becoming the first device approved for PDA closure in patients ≥700 g. We report on the first known cases of complete left pulmonary artery (LPA) occlusion following Piccolo closure of a PDA in premature infants.
METHODS: Retrospective chart analysis of PDA closures.
RESULTS: We have performed over 50 cases of Piccolo device closure of the PDA in preterm neonates in the past 2 years, with these 2 cases represen

OBJECTIVE: To present information regarding the current federal regulation of cranial orthotics used for the treatment of deformational plagiocephaly as well as to discuss concerns raised by the Food and Drug Administration regarding the safety and effectiveness of these devices.
BACKGROUND: Although first introduced in 1979, the use of orthotic helmets for the treatment of deformational plagiocephaly was slow to gain acceptance. However, with the recent increase in infants presenting with this condition, numerous orthotic treatment programs have been established throughout the country. Until

On Dec 8, 2025, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the Flow Neuroscience transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) device for the treatment of "moderate to severe major depressive disorder (MDD) in the current episode, either as monotherapy or as an adjunctive treatment, in patients 18 years and older who are not considered treatment refractory to medication." This represents the first FDA premarket approval (PMA) for a home-use non-invasive brain-stimulation device specifically indicated for depression treatment. This is a major regulatory milestone in non-pharmacological

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is classifying the urethral insert with pump for bladder drainage into class II (special controls). The special controls that will apply to the device are identified in this order and will be part of the codified language for the urethral insert with pump for bladder drainage's classification. The Agency is classifying the device into class II (special controls) in order to provide a reasonable assurance of safety and effectiveness of the device.

Proposed generic drug-device combination products submitted for FDA approval through the Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) pathway require a comparison to the specific brand name version of the drug, or reference listed drug (RLD). The application requires data demonstrating the generic drug is not only pharmaceutically equivalent, but also that any associated device administering the drug is interchangeable from a human factors perspective. In 2017, the FDA made available the draft guidance for industry entitled "Comparative Analyses and Related Comparative Use Human Factors Studies for

The authors evaluated a magnetic resonance (MR) imaging-compatible biopsy device comprising a needle guide that can be visualized with MR imaging and manipulated mechanically from outside the MR unit. With approval from the local ethics committee and patient consent, this device was tested in 12 patients by using a closed 1.5-T MR unit and a body phased-array coil. Patients had elevated prostate-specific antigen levels (6-60 ng/mL) and one or more areas in the prostate that were suspicious for carcinoma at prebiopsy MR imaging. Biopsy was performed with transrectal access and with the patient

Starting with the assumption that a device to detect unplanned radiation exposures is technically superior to current technology, we examine the additional stakeholders and processes that must be considered to move the device from the lab into use. The use is to provide reliable information to triage people for early treatment of exposure to ionizing radiation that could lead to the Acute Radiation Syndrome. The scenario is a major accident or terrorist event that leaves a large number of people potentially exposed, with the resulting need to identify those to treat promptly or not. In vivo EP

Visual prostheses serve to restore visual function following acquired blindness. Acquired blindness (as opposed to congenital blindness) has many causes, including diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, or trauma such as caused by automobile accident or blast damage from explosions. Many of the blindness-causing diseases target the retina or other ocular structure. Often, despite the loss of sensitivity to light, the remainder of the visual pathway is still functional, enabling electrical devices to deliver effective and meaningful visual information to the

Transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) for preterm infants is increasingly performed after the Food and Drug Administration approval of the Amplatzer Piccolo Occluder device (Abbott Inc., Abbott Park, IL, USA) in the United States. We report three babies in whom transcatheter closure of PDA was unsuccessful; however, the PDA closed spontaneously in 1-5 days after the transcatheter attempt. The PDA remained closed during follow-up at 3 weeks, 10 weeks, and 17 months, respectively. Mechanical stimulation of the PDA by the wire during attempted device closure likely induced the P

The feasibility of magnetic activation for mandibular distraction has been demonstrated previously. In this study, we developed a biocompatible device to evaluate the feasibility of distraction in cadaveric subjects and the functionality of the device in bench tests. To confirm, considering the dimension of the distractor, that the torque applied on the internal magnet would be sufficient to activate distraction osteogenesis we measured, for different distances, the transmitted torque between a magnet (internal and external). We evaluated the friction force of the device, and the resilience of
