The aim of this study was to analyse the scientific literature to identify the different types of exercises that influence inter-rectus distance with a view to subsequently including them in the treatment of diastasis rectus abdominis. A search made in the CINHAL, PEDRo, Pubmed, and Scopus databases. Fourteen valid articles were included in the analysis. The articles were divided into 2 groups: those analysing exercise with an immediate effect and those presenting an exercise programme with a delayed effect (long term); the most commonly used exercise was the curl-up. There is a lack of consen

BACKGROUND: Both umbilical and epigastric hernias may be associated with rectus muscle divarication. In such cases, isolated repair of combined hernia defects can have high recurrence rates and poorer cosmetic outcomes, thus the repair of both pathologies ought to be favored. The goal of the study below is to provide detailed technical aspects of the endoscopic retro-rectus mesh repair.
METHODS: We chose a group of 16 patients who underwent the repair of ventral hernias associated with both primary and incisional rectus diastasis, using the extended-view of a totally extraperitoneal Rives-Sto

BACKGROUND: Several studies investigating high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) treatments have recently been published. However, due to the novelty of the procedure, long-term data are still missing.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in abdominal tissues on average 1 year after a series of HIFEM treatments, to determine the long-term durability of patients' original body responses.
METHODS: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scanning were performed on 21 patients a mean of 332.6 [88.5] days after their original HIFEM treatment serie

BACKGROUND: Classic bladder exstrophy is a developmental defect presenting at birth with a wide pubic separation and an exposed bladder; cloacal exstrophy involves, in addition, intestinal prolapse. Reconstruction requires several surgical procedures. The use of anterior iliac osteotomies in this process has not been reviewed in a large series.
METHODS: We reviewed the results of eighty-six anterior innominate osteotomies performed in conjunction with genitourinary repair of classic and cloacal bladder exstrophy in eighty-two patients. Clinical outcome measures were successful bladder closure

PURPOSE: We provide a 3-dimensional (3D) model of the pelvic floor musculature in patients with classic bladder exstrophy using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Five male infants 1 day to 12 months old underwent MRI of the pelvis, which was compared to pelvic MRI of 1 male infant without pelvic floor abnormalities. Of the patients 3 were studied before primary closure and 2 before reclosure. None of the patients had a prior pelvic osteotomy. While the entire pelvic floor was imaged, special attention was paid to the contours of the levator ani muscle group which were d

Diastasis recti abdominis is a condition in which both rectus abdominis muscles disintegrate to the sides, this being ac-companied by the extension of the linea alba tissue and bulging of the abdominal wall. DRA may result in the herniation of the abdominal viscera, but it is not a hernia per se. DRA is common in the female population during pregnancy and in the postpartum period. There is a scant knowledge on the prevalence, risk factors, prevention or management of the abovemen-tioned condition. The aim of this paper is to present the methods of DRA treatment based on the results of recent s

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA) is a separation of the rectus abdominis muscles which often results from pregnancy. This meta-analysis aims to identify the most effective non-surgical treatment to reduce post-partum DRA.
METHODS: A comprehensive search was performed on electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases for RCTs involving abdominal or pelvic muscle exercises, and abdominal binding for DRA Reduction. Primary outcomes included inter-recti distance (IRD) Resolution, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score, and Pelvic Floor Disability Index

Rectus diastasis is frequently seen in men above 60 years with BMI > 25 kg/m2 and physical inactivity. Men with rectus diastasis often present with a bulge during sit-ups, but besides cosmetic complaints, other symptoms are rare. First choice of treatment is weight loss and physical training with focus on activating m. transversus abdominis. If there is a symptomatic ventral hernia concomitant with the diastasis, the best surgical approach is probably minimally invasive, where the hernia defect is closed, and a mesh is placed to cover the diastasis to prevent recurrences, as argued in this rev

Postpartum diastasis recti abdominis (PDRA), characterized by pathological separation of the rectus abdominis muscles, affects 30%-60% of women, with many cases persisting beyond 6 months postpartum and having significant impacts on musculoskeletal function and quality of life. This review synthesizes recent advancements across molecular pathogenesis, precision diagnostics, and therapeutic innovations. Key findings reveal that PDRA pathophysiology involves pregnancy-induced hormonal fluctuations, extracellular matrix remodeling, and mechanical overloading, necessitating individualized manageme

OBJECTIVE: Postpartum diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) influences women's appearance and health. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can affect the structure of the rectus abdominis muscles. However, the relationship between GDM and postpartum DRA is unknown. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between GDM and postpartum DRA.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 241 women in the first year postdelivery. Women with GDM were matched with those without GDM using propensity score matching. They underwent an oral glucose tolerance test during pregnancy and a

Abdominoplasty is among the most commonly performed aesthetic operations and is frequently combined with rectus abdominis musculoaponeurotic plication of rectus diastasis and repair of umbilical and ventral hernias. The authors present a spare parts technique to assist in reinforcement of both rectus diastasis plication and hernia repair during abdominoplasty operations using an autodermis onlay reinforcement graft. The graft is harvested from the excess abdominal pannus normally discarded during abdominoplasty and is inset on tension between the bilateral semilunar lines and plicated along a

OBJECTIVES: This study was aimed at discovering the efficacy the deep core stability exercise program has on the closure of diastasis recti and on the overall improvement in the quality of life for postpartum women.
METHODS: The study group consisted of forty women with diastasis recti, aged between 23 and 33 who were randomly divided into two groups. The 20 women in the first group underwent a deep core stability-strengthening program plus traditional abdominal exercises program, 3 times a week, for a total duration of 8 weeks. The other 20 women, forming the second group, only underwent the

BACKGROUND: According to EHS guidelines, mesh repair is recommended in case of concomitant diastasis recti (DR) and ventral hernia more than 1 cm in diameter. Since in this situation, the higher risk of hernia recurrence may be attributed to the weakness of aponeurotic layers, in our current practice, for hernias up to 3 cm, we use a bilayer suture technique. The study aimed at describing our surgical technique and evaluating the results of our current practice.
METHODS: The technique combines suturing repair of the hernia orifice and diastasis correction by suture, and includes an open step

We are reporting here a rare case of congenital complete sternal cleft in an adult of 25 years of age, with absent anterior pericardium and "diastasis recti." Successful surgical repair was achieved along with the preservation of the already existing anatomic and mechanical sanctity of thoracic cage, sternal reconstruction, and protection of the underlying heart and great vessels with a good cosmetic result using autogenous tissue i.e., iliac bone and "V-Y" myoplasty of pectoralis major muscles with their functional preservation and correction of associated anomalies.

OBJECTIVE: Diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscle (DRAM) is a widening of linea alba, it also could be accompanied by abdominal bulging. DRAM is often a cause of quality-of-life impairment, especially when it is of large dimensions. Repair with direct rectus plication is the most common treatment for Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA), but it can result in high recurrence rates. The authors aimed to show their results in applying the component separation technique in wide DRA cases.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From January 2015 to July 2018, 43 patients with DRA ≥ 10 cm at 3 cm over the umbilicus ha

PURPOSE: Diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) or rectus diastasis is an acquired condition in which the rectus muscles are separated by an abnormal distance along their length, but with no fascia defect. To data there is no consensus about risk factors for DRA. The aim of this article is to critically review the literature about prevalence and risk factor of DRA.
METHOD: A total of 13 papers were identified.
RESULTS: The real prevalence of DRA is unknown because the prevalence rate varies with measurement method, measurement site and judgment criteria, but it is certainly an extremely frequent co

BACKGROUND: Diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles (DMRA) is frequent and may be associated with abdominal wall hernias. For patients with redudant skin, dermolipectomy and plication of the diastasis is the most commonly used procedure. However, there is a significant group of patients who do not require skin resection or do not want large incisions.
AIM: To describe a "new" technique (subcutaneous onlay laparoscopic approach - SCOLA) for the correction of ventral hernias combined with the DMRA plication and to report the initial results of a case series.
METHOD: SCOLA was applied in 48 p
