Therapy of chronic hepatic encephalopathy is often frustrating, limited as it is by the ability to adequately nourish such patients. Alopecia areata (AA) is a common autoimmune condition resulting in spot baldness and, rarely, more extensive hair loss. There is an association between both the incidence and the severity of AA and several micronutrients, including vitamin D and zinc. This case reports an eight-year-old male diagnosed with AA and treated with a diet and supplemental regimen based on unrefined foods, rich in vitamins A and D, zinc, and supplemented with a multi-nutrient, zinc sulfate, and fish oil with vitamin D. Complete remission of AA was achieved within five months.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of a diet therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
METHODS: Fifty RA patients entered a 24-week double-blind, randomised, controlled-study of two different dietary regimens (an experimental diet high in unsaturated fats, low in saturated fats with hypoallergenic foods vs. a control well-balanced diet). The primary end points of the study were 20% and 50% improvement in disease activity according to composite symptoms (Paulus index) of arthritis. Other end points were the other measures of disease activity at 12 and 24 weeks of diet treatment.

BACKGROUND: Given excellent prostate cancer outcomes, comorbidity management is critical to survivorship. While hormone therapy or androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is a mainstay of treatment, they can negatively impact quality of life and survivorship through cardiovascular, sexual, and metabolic effects. ADT-induced metabolic syndrome causes impaired glucose tolerance, muscle mass loss, and weight gain. This systematic review examined recent randomized clinical trials (RCTs) investigating the impact of diet and weight management strategies on mitigating ADT-related adverse effects.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (PC) is the second most lethal cancer for men. For metastatic PC, standard first-line treatment is androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). While effective, ADT has many metabolic side effects. Previously, we found in serum metabolome analysis that ADT reduced androsterone sulfate, 3-hydroxybutyric acid, acyl-carnitines but increased serum glucose.
