BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Spinal manipulation, spinal mobilization, and exercise are commonly used in individuals with cervicogenic headache (CH). Dry needling is being increasingly used in the management of CH. However, questions remain about the effectiveness of these therapies and how they compare to each other.
PURPOSE: The present study aims to compare the combined effects of spinal manipulation and dry needling with spinal mobilization and exercise on pain and disability in individuals with CH.
STUDY DESIGN/SETTING: Randomized, multicenter, parallel-group trial.

BACKGROUND: Lateral epicondylitis (LE) is a common disease especially at middle age. Different types of treatments have been used to address LE. Corticosteroid (CS) injections and dry needling (DN) are utilized options in the treatment. However, the question of which one is better has not been entirely discussed in the literature. We hypothesized that the use of DN to treat LE would be at least as effective as using CS injections. We compared the pain relief afforded and improvements in functional disability after DN and CS injection.
METHODS: A total of 108 LE patients whose pain was not rel

STUDY DESIGN: Case report.
BACKGROUND: Prognosis for adhesive capsulitis has been described as self-limiting and can persist for 1 to 3 years. Conservative treatment that includes physical therapy is commonly advised.
CASE DESCRIPTION: The patient was a 54-year-old woman with primary symptoms of shoulder pain and loss of motion consistent with adhesive capsulitis. Manual physical therapy intervention initially consisted of joint mobilizations of the shoulder region and thrust manipulation of the cervicothoracic region. Although manual techniques seemed to result in some early functional impr

PURPOSE: Arthroscopy remains the gold standard to diagnose ligamentous lesions in the wrist. The coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic put a strain on resources, prompting an increase in procedures performed under local anesthesia. Dry needle arthroscopy of the wrist has previously been used in the operating room. The purpose of this study was to assess the results and patient satisfaction of wrist arthroscopy under local anesthesia in an office setting.
METHODS: A prospective series of 15 patients presenting with wrist trauma and a suspected ligamentous injury to the wrist were included. A

BACKGROUND: Optimal dry needling frequency for chronic mechanical neck pain remains uncertain, warranting dose-response testing.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether dry needling delivered once (DN1x) vs 3 (DN3x) times per week provides differential effects compared with sham DN on muscle stiffness and tone, pressure pain threshold (PPT), cervical range of motion, pain intensity, disability, and safety in chronic mechanical neck pain.
METHODS: A multicenter, randomized, assessor- and participant-blinded trial allocated 96 participants to DN1x, DN3x, sham DN once weekly (sDN1x), or sham dry nee

Background/Objectives: Cervical pain is defined as pain in the neck that may or may not radiate to one or both upper extremities and lasts at least one day. Headaches are within the spectrum of neck pain, defined as any painful sensation perceived in the head that can extend to the neck. They are classified as primary (migraines and tension headaches) or secondary (cervicogenic headaches) depending on their clinical presentation and associated symptoms. The objective of this review is to compare the effects of dry needling with and without spinal manipulative techniques versus the application

BACKGROUND: Limited knowledge exists about the effectiveness of dry needling (DN) concerning the torso kinematics in patients with non-specific low back pain (NS-LBP). Acute effects of DN in NS-LBP patients from a functional perspective were investigated.
METHODS: Sixteen NS-LBP patients and 11 healthy individuals (HG) were examined. NS-LBP patients received a single session of DN at the lumbar region. Baseline and immediate post-treatment measurements during flexion-extension and lateral bending of the trunk were conducted for the NS-LBP patients. HG were measured only at baseline to be used

Trigger point dry needling (TrpDN) has emerged as a promising intervention for the treatment of myofascial pain. This involves insertion of a sterile filament needle directly into the trigger point (Trp), with the aim of eliciting a local twitch response (LTR). This sudden, involuntary contraction of the muscle fibers confirms the breakdown and success of TrpDN intervention. Not all LTRs are perceptible through visual observation or tactile sensation during the intervention. In search of noticeable LTR, clinicians perform Hong's technique (back-and-forth movements of needle in muscle). This re

Neck pain can be associated with specific conditions, such as neurological disorders, vascular or inflammatory diseases, fractures, herniated discs, etc. However, the majority of neck pain cases cannot be attributed to a specific cause. The objective of this review is to describe the muscle dysfunctions associated with neck pain, as measured by electromyography, and to determine the effectiveness of dry needling in improving these muscular dysfunctions. The research was conducted using the following databases: PubMed, Alcorze, and Google Scholar. The next conclusions have been extracted after

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: The use of DN to the muscular trigger points and distal periosteal enthesis of the levator scapulae may be a useful adjunct intervention within a multi-modal plan of care for the management of work-related chronic tension-type headaches associated with LSS.
ABSTRACT: Chronic tension-type headaches (CTTH) have a lifetime prevalence of 42% and account for more lost workdays than migraine headaches. Dry needling (DN) is being increasingly used by physical therapists in the management of CTTH; however, to date, the supporting evidence is limited. The purpose of this case rep

BACKGROUND: Vasovagal responses (VVR) are common transient autonomic reactions to invasive procedures such as injections or needling, characterized by bradycardia, hypotension, and transient loss of consciousness; however, their occurrence and underlying autonomic mechanisms during dry needling (DN) for myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) remain poorly understood.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the frequency of VVR during DN in patients with MPS and to compare autonomic parameters-heart rate variability (HRV), pupil diameter, and skin perfusion-between those with and without VVR.

BACKGROUND: Chondromalacia patellae is a common cause of anterior knee pain in adult females and is associated with patellofemoral pain syndrome. Conservative management focuses on pain reduction and restoration of muscle function; however, limited evidence directly compares the effectiveness of myofascial release (MFR) and dry needling (DN).
HYPOTHESIS: Both MFR and DN would reduce pain and improve quadriceps function, with MFR producing greater improvements in neuromuscular performance.
STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled clinical trial.
LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level 2.
METHODS: Adult females
