Influence of maternal, foetal and socio-economic factors on neonatal morbidity: a study on hospital born babies.

Present study revealed several significant associations. Firstly, two related variables, like duration of antenatal care and birth-weight of newborn were significantly associated with incidence of neonatal morbidity. Apart from these, attributes like mother's educational status and per capita family income were also found as important factors determining occurrence of illness during neonatal period. Moreover, children of working mothers suffered more from illness. However, it should be pointed out here that majority of the attributes discussed here, such as, occupation, literacy, income etc, a

Trends in pediatric uveitis: A systematic review and meta-epidemiological investigation of geographic, economic, and climate factors.

Literature on pediatric uveitis frequently describes the disease as noninfectious, bilateral, and anterior with a female sex predilection. This characterization misrepresents epidemiology studies from many parts of the world. This systematic review and Bayesian meta-analysis combines demographic and clinical data representing 43 studies from 26 countries over the last 10 years to create a global picture of the epidemiology of pediatric uveitis. We performed additional Bayesian meta-regression analyses to explore how geography, economy, and climate may have played a role in inter-study variabil

Prevalence, incidence, risk factors and economic burden in multimorbidity among adult Indians: the MILAN cohort study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Multimorbidity or multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs) are defined as the coexistence of two or more chronic conditions in an individual. With increased longevity and the rising burden of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), multimorbidity is becoming the norm. Although more prevalent in older populations and people with low socio-economic status, multimorbidity is rapidly rising in the younger age groups. Accurate data on its incidence and health and economic impacts, ie, disability-adjusted life years (DALY) lost and quality-adjusted life year (QALY) are not available for

An examination of genetic and environmental factors related to negative personality traits, educational attainment, and economic success.

Personality variables are associated with educational attainment and socioeconomic outcomes. In this study we incorporated a polygenic score derived from the largest genome-wide association study (GWAS) of educational attainment to date (Lee et al., 2018) into the Interactionist Model of R. D. Conger, Martin, and Masarik (2021) that describes the influence of socioeconomic factors on individual development. The inclusion of a polygenic score predictive of educational attainment (PS-Edu) into this model, and the use of the multigeneration, longitudinal Family Transitions Project (FTP) provide a

Impact of Socio-Economic Factors on Increased Risk and Progression of Rheumatic Heart Disease in Developing Nations.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a global health concern especially in low-income settings. Morbidity and mortality data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and global burden studies emphasizes on the prioritization of RHD on a global platform. Genetic, environmental, and socio-economic factors determine the sustainability and progression of RHD in various populations. In developing countries, low socioeconomic status (SES) is a vast and inevitable challenge in combating RHD. Concurrence between low SES and RHD has been well documented by several studies, but there is a

[Socio-economic factors that influence tuberculosis death among the youth and middle-aged population: a systematic review].

OBJECTIVE AND METHOD: The number of tuberculosis (TB) deaths in Japan has decreased by 9% in the past 10 years. As of 2012, the death rate was 1.7 per 100,000 populations. Many studies have reported on the clinical factors associated with the number of TB deaths in Japan, and have identified aging to be a major cause of death among patients with TB. However, death among younger patients with TB is also a serious concern, and although several socio-economic factors have been suggested in the past, these studies have varied in methods and results. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review of p

Modelling typhoid risk in Dhaka metropolitan area of Bangladesh: the role of socio-economic and environmental factors.

BACKGROUND: Developing countries in South Asia, such as Bangladesh, bear a disproportionate burden of diarrhoeal diseases such as cholera, typhoid and paratyphoid. These seem to be aggravated by a number of social and environmental factors such as lack of access to safe drinking water, overcrowdedness and poor hygiene brought about by poverty. Some socioeconomic data can be obtained from census data whilst others are more difficult to elucidate. This study considers a range of both census data and spatial data from other sources, including remote sensing, as potential predictors of typhoid ris

Epidemiology, risk factor, and economic analysis of peripheral nerve injury following distal radius fractures.

PURPOSE: Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are a common orthopaedic injury with a bimodal age and gender distribution, comprising male children after high-energy trauma and older women after low-energy falls. Complications like malunion, ligament ruptures, and nerve injuries can significantly impact recovery. This study aimed to address the gap in population-based data by analyzing the prevalence and risk factors for peripheral nerve injuries associated with DRFs. METHODS: The National Inpatient Sample database was used to analyze DRFs patients with associated ulnar, median, or radial nerve inju

Influence of socio-economic, demographic and climate factors on the regional distribution of dengue in the United States and Mexico.

BACKGROUND: This study examines the impact of climate, socio-economic and demographic factors on the incidence of dengue in regions of the United States and Mexico. We select factors shown to predict dengue at a local level and test whether the association can be generalized to the regional or state level. In addition, we assess how different indicators perform compared to per capita gross domestic product (GDP), an indicator that is commonly used to predict the future distribution of dengue. METHODS: A unique spatial-temporal dataset was created by collating information from a variety of dat

Socio-economic and environmental factors associated with the occurrence of canine infection by Leishmania infantum in Teresina, Brazil.

American visceral leishmaniasis (AVL) is a zoonosis caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Leishmania. In Brazil, the disease is caused by Leishmania infantum and the main vector is the phlebotomine sandfly Lutzomyia longipalpis, found both in natural ecotopes and in the rural and urban environments, being very well adapted to the peridomestic environment. The domestic dog has been incriminated as the main reservoir of the parasite in the urban environment, but the control measures based on culling seropositive dogs have not shown to be effective to contain the spread of the disease throug

Coupling coordination, obstacle factors and predictive analysis of "Social Economic-Resource Ecological-Human Response" in Yiluo River Basin.

Coordinating socio-economic development with resource-ecological protection is a core task for achieving ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The key lies in revealing the mechanisms and transmission paths of policy interventions influencing resource-ecosystems through human behavior. However, existing research largely focuses on the binary coupling analysis of socio-economic and resource-ecosystem aspects at the basin or provincial/municipal levels, neglecting the actual responses and spatial heterogeneity of policies at the county/district level (the

Distress Financing for Institutional Delivery in India: A Regional Analysis of Economic Inequality, Coping Mechanisms, and Contributing Factors.

BACKGROUND: Financial hardship is among the significant challenges in the utilization of maternal healthcare services in India. It is further aggravated by the issue of inequality in the distress financing (DF) for institutional delivery (ID) which pushes the poor into a vicious cycle of poverty. The paper examines the pattern of inequality and regional variation in DF for ID in India. It also determines the factor contributing to the inequality in the DF for ID among a few selected states. METHODS: The paper uses unit-level data from the fifth National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) round con
