PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine if an educational program could improve nurses' attitudes, level of knowledge, and compliance with infection control standards for HIV/AIDS patients diagnosed with TB. METHOD: Participants included 50 staff nurses. The experimental group (35) and control group (15) completed a knowledge test and

Evaluation of the effectiveness of training on pediatric nurses' attitudes toward children during invasive procedures.

BACKGROUND: Hospitalization and invasive procedures constitute major sources of stress and anxiety for children. Nurses' attitudes during these procedures play a pivotal role in mitigating children's negative psychological responses and in promoting atraumatic care. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an innovative educational intervention in improving pediatric nurses' attitudes toward children during invasive procedures, as measured using a validated pediatric-specific attitude scale (ÇİTÖ). METHODS: A single-group quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was co

Effects of interactivity, immersion, and physical discomfort on learning in VR nursing education.

BACKGROUND: Although VR provides innovative opportunities for nursing education, little is known about how its core features immersion and interactivity shape learners' self-efficacy, motivation, and cognitive processes. Furthermore, the impact of physical discomfort during VR use remains underexplored. This study investigates the effects of immersion and interactivity on affective and cognitive constructs in nursing education using virtual reality (VR), while examining the influence of physical discomfort and the moderating roles of age and gender. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conduc

LOCAL PROBLEM: At our organization, there was no formal delirium assessment performed by the nursing staff outside of the intensive care unit. METHODS: Assessment of nurses' knowledge about delirium, a nurse-driven delirium screening protocol, and patient education were implemented on an adult inpatient neurology unit. Knowledge change, protocol implementation, and patient-level outcomes were assessed. INTERVENTIONS:

Attitudinal changes of nursing students were measured before and after a palliative care module was taken. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and paired student's t-tests. Additional subgroup analyses were conducted based on age, g

Do Sexual Orientation Myths Influence Caring Behaviors Among Nurses and Nursing Students? A Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexua + individuals continue to face disparities in health care, which have been associated with sexual orientation-related prejudices and limited cultural competence among health care professionals. Insufficient integration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexua+ content in nursing education may further contribute to challenges in providing equitable and inclusive care. This research examined how sexual orientation beliefs effect the care practices of nurses in care, education, and counseling services and

A multi-faceted approach of a nursing led education in response to MERS-CoV infection.

BACKGROUND: The emergence of the Middle East respiratory syndrome-coronavirus (MERS-CoV) resulted in multiple healthcare associated outbreaks. In response, we developed a nurse-led program to screen and triage patients with MERS-CoV infection. METHODS: A formal educational program was implemented to ensure a standardized approach to care planning and delivery. The essential skills that were included were the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gown, gloves, head cover and N95 mask, hand hygiene, the practice of donning and doffing and the collection of MERS-CoV nasopharyngeal

Japanese Nursing Staff's Knowledge and Attitude toward Bereavement Care for Couples with Miscarriage/Stillbirth and Its Associated Factors.

Bereavement care is conducted to meet the emotional needs of grieving couples who are devastated by the experience of a miscarriage or stillbirth. From January to April 2022, we distributed a questionnaire that assessed the knowledge and attitudes of Japanese nursing staff (nurses and midwives) in Japan's Chugoku-Shikoku region toward bereavement care for couples with miscarriage/stillbirth. The 370 survey respondents' answers revealed that the nursing staff's knowledge regarding recurrent pregnancy loss and subsequent bereavement care was insufficient. About 41.1% and 64.1% of the respondents

Standardizing Tracheostomy Discharge Education Using an Interdisciplinary Hand-off Form: A Quality Improvement Study.

BACKGROUND: Adults discharged home with a tracheostomy face preventable risks of tube dislodgement, obstruction, infection, and delayed emergency response. Consistent discharge education and interdisciplinary communication can support safe transitions from hospital to home. LOCAL PROBLEM: On an adult surgical telemetry unit at an academic medical center, tracheostomy discharge education and documentation were inconsistent across the electronic health record. Variable handoff practices between registered nurses and respiratory therapists contributed to fragmented care. METHODS: This quality i

Nurses' knowledge, attitudes, practices, and educational needs regarding frailty: a multicenter cross-sectional survey in southwestern China.

BACKGROUND: Population aging has made frailty a major public health concern. Frailty is potentially reversible when identified and managed early, and nurses are well positioned to deliver such care; however, nurses' frailty-related competencies vary considerably, and evidence remains scarce in southwestern China, where the aging burden is disproportionately high. We therefore conducted a multicenter study to assess nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding frailty, explore their associated factors, and clarify their educational needs. METHODS: An anonymous online survey was

A SWOT Analysis of Death Literacy Education in Nursing: Implications for Hospice and Palliative Care in China.

OBJECTIVE: The demand for mortality-related education among hospice care providers in China remains high; however, the overall level of death literacy in China is comparatively low. Given that nurses constitute the primary workforce in hospice and palliative care delivery, enhancing nursing education in death literacy is essential for the effective implementation of related services. METHODS: A Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis was conducted to examine the internal advantages and limitations, as well as external opportunities and challenges, associated with dea

Implementation of the Agitated Behavior Scale for Hospitalized Children With Acquired Brain Injuries: A Quality Improvement Initiative.

INTRODUCTION: Agitation occurs in up to 71% of hospitalized patients with acquired brain injuries (ABIs). Despite its prevalence, agitation in pediatric ABI is often assessed subjectively, and standardized assessment tools are inconsistently used in pediatric settings. This quality improvement initiative was designed to address this gap by implementing a standardized agitation assessment and evaluating its feasibility and impact on documentation and nursing knowledge. OBJECTIVE: Use a standardized assessment tool with formal education to improve agitation documentation, nursing knowledge, and
