Technology-Intensified Diabetes Education Study (TIDES) in African Americans with type 2 diabetes: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Compared to American Whites, African Americans have a higher prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), experiencing poorer metabolic control and greater risks for complications and death. Patient-level factors, such as diabetes knowledge, self-management skills, empowerment, and perceived control, account for >90% of the variance observed in outcomes between these racial groups. There is strong evidence that self-management interventions that include telephone-delivered diabetes education and skills training are effective at improving metabolic control in diabetes. Comparing the outcomes of the technology-enhanced learning of sectional anatomy with and without preceding demonstrations: A study about the worked-example effect in anatomy education.

The examination of anatomical cross-sections can facilitate the understanding of spatial and clinical anatomy. Visualization technologies, with dynamic and interactive displays, can be used to learn sectional anatomy in a mostly self-directed manner. Nevertheless, this study hypothesized that the technology-enhanced learning of sectional anatomy is improved when initiated with explicit anatomical demonstrations-worked examples, as defined in Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) and Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (CTML). Two learning experiments were conducted with Year 1 (N = 110) and Year 2 (

The effectiveness of technology-based patient education on self-reported deprivation of liberty among people with severe mental illness: a randomized controlled trial.

Deprivation of liberty (DL) in psychiatric inpatient care is common worldwide. As liberty is a central element of patients' rights, there is a need to develop most effective methods supporting patients' personal liberty. The article presents initial results from a study to determine the effectiveness of an information technology (IT)-based patient education programme on patients' experiences of being deprived of their liberty during their in-hospital stay. An overall sample of 311 patients with schizophrenia spectrum psychosis was randomized into three groups: an intervention group with needs-

A Clinician-Centered Evaluation Framework for Large Language Models in Patient Education: Integrating the Technology Acceptance Model and Medical Condition Regard Scale.

Inadequate postcare patient education contributes to preventable readmissions and adverse outcomes that disproportionately affect medically complex, high-need communities. Large language models (LLMs) show promise for generating personalized, plain-language patient education at scale. However, existing LLM evaluation frameworks prioritize technical accuracy over patient accessibility and alignment with health literacy, and few explicitly account for the attitudinal influences that clinician evaluators may introduce into the rating process. In this viewpoint, we introduce an evaluation framewor

Re-envisioning Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge and Online Teaching Readiness of English for Foreign Language Pre-service Teachers in Language Teacher Education.

The pandemic has brought online learning as the new norm in education, which invokes many issues, particularly in the quality of online education. The quality of teacher education is being questioned, particularly in imparting adequate Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), which seems to be lacking in preparing teachers for sudden online learning. Though many studies were clustered around TPACK, there is still an unfilled gap in identifying whether the pre-service teachers are ready to teach online classes alongside their TPACK. Hence, this paper aims to determine (1) the level

Use of real-time immersive digital training and educational technologies to improve patient safety during the processing of reusable medical devices: Quo Vadis?

Hospital acquired infections stemming from contaminated reusable medical devices are of increasing concern. This issue is exaggerated with the introduction of complex medical devices like endoscopes and robotic instrumentation. Although medical device manufacturers validate their cleaning instructions for use, evidence in the literature demonstrates that effective device processing is not being performed consistently within sterile processing departments in clinical settings. The result is increased risks to patient safety. As a solution to this problem, focused one-on-one training increases c
