Uncommon presentation of an acute appendicitis caused by Enterobius vermicularis in an adult.

Enterobius vermicularis is the most common parasitic infection in temperate and cold climates, affecting populations in both developing and developed countries. Although typically asymptomatic, it can lead to acute appendicitis, a relationship that has been a subject of debate. Therefore, we present a case of acute appendicitis induced by E. vermicularis in an adult patient and provide a comprehensive review of the current literature. A 21-year-old man presented with acute right lower quadrant abdominal pain consistent with acute appendicitis. Laboratory and imaging studies supported the diagn

Acute appendicitis due to infection with Enterobius vermicularis, A case report.

INTRODUCTION & IMPORTANCE: Enterobius vermicularis is the most common parasitic infection in developed countries of temperate and cool climates. The feco-oral route is the most common route of human infection. Due to obstruction of appendiceal lumen, the presence of parasites in the appendix may cause appendiceal colic or cause inflammation of the appendix. CASE PRESENTATION: A 17 years old male was referred to our Emergency Department with acute abdominal pain in his right lower quadrant. The physical and laboratory examination revealed right iliac fossa tenderness and leukocytosis with neuto

Intramural Ova of Enterobius vermicularis in the Appendix-An Egg-Topic Location!

We report an unusual case of appendicitis in a 9-year-old girl in whom the wall of the appendix contained necrotizing granulomas, as well as eggs of Enterobius vermicularis. Although luminal E vermicularis adult parasites are commonly identified in the appendix and luminal eggs are occasionally seen, intramural worms and eggs are rare. We are unaware of earlier reports of ectopic intramural eggs in the appendix. It is important to and make a correct diagnosis, as both, the patient, as well as the family should be treated for enterobiasis.

[Advances in research on harm and control of Enterobius vermicularis infection in children].

In China, the infection rate of Enterobius vermicularis in children is still relatively high. Because the development and spread of worm eggs is fast, it is easy to treat but difficult to control the disease, and the control effect is also difficult to be consolidated. The long-term repeated Enterobius vermicularis infection may cause the damage on children's body and mind in different degrees. This paper offers an overview on the current status, harm and prevention and control of Enterobius vermicularis infection.

Enterobius vermicularis infestation of a hysterectomy specimen in a patient with a colonic reservoir.

A 43-year-old woman (gravida 2, para 1011) with a history of uterine leiomyomata and a Barnett colonic reservoir underwent a supracervical hysterectomy. Final pathology revealed Enterobius vermicularis within the myometrium and adnexal vasculature. Infection may have occurred through a modified mode given the presence of a Barnett colonic reservoir and absence of an anus.

Acute appendicitis caused by Enterobius vermicularis: Observations from a case report.

Enterobius vermicularis is the most common parasitic worm responsible for gastrointestinal infection worldwide. Acute appendicitis due to E. vermicularis is a rare infection, affecting mostly the children. In this report, we present the case of a 5-year-old girl infant infected by E. vermicularis found in the appendix lumen. A couple of histopathological and parasitological analyses followed by imaging allowed us to diagnose accurately the etiologic agent. Clinicians should be aware of this parasitosis as a possible cause of acute appendicitis.

Enterobius vermicularis causing acute appendicitis, a case report with literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Enterobius vermicularis is one of the commonest parasitic infestations worldwide but its association with acute appendicitis remains controversial. It is very rarely encountered during appendectomy. The aim of this paper is to report a case of acute appendicitis caused by Enterobius vermicularis. A 23-year-old housewife presented with a right lower abdominal pain for the past 8 h. Clinical examination revealed right iliac fossa tenderness upon palpation and rebound tenderness upon release. The patient was diagnosed as a case of suspected acute appendicitis. The patient was anesth

Co-infection with Enterobius vermicularis and Taenia saginata mimicking acute appendicitis.

In this report, we describe an unusual case of verminous appendicitis due to Enterobius vermicularis and Taenia saginata in a 29-year-old woman from Iran. The histopathological examinations and parasitological descriptions of both worms found in the appendix lumen are discussed. The removed appendix exhibited the macroscopic and microscopic features of acute appendicitis. Antihelminthic therapy was initiated with single doses of praziquantel for the taeniasis and mebendazole for the enterobiasis, and the patient was discharged.
