PURPOSE: To evaluate the genetic instability in somatic cells of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) by means of study of micronuclei (MN) level in exfoliated buccal cells and DNA damage in leukocytes.
METHODS: The levels of MN in exfoliated buccal cells and DNA damage in leukocytes of 17 PCOS patients and 17 healthy women were studied. Genes encoding staphylococcal enterotoxins (sea to see, seg, and seh), toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (tst), and exfoliative toxins (eta and etb) were not detected in a large panel of 48 Staphylococcus sciuri group isolates tested. This strongly suggests that production of the staphylococcal exotoxins by these bacteria is highly unlikely.

Here, we announce the complete genome sequence of an exfoliative toxin-producing strain of Staphylococcus aureus sequence type 582 (ST582), isolated from a case of staphylococcal scalded-skin syndrome. The genome consists of a single circularized unitig with a total length of 2,792,190 bp carrying 2,699 genes. The genome is the basis for future epidemiological and genomic studies.

95 eyes of patients with bilateral exfoliation syndrome (ES) were examined with fluoroangiography. The visual field and the intraocular pressure were tested in the same eyes. The relationship between visual field defects, fluoroangiographic changes of the optic disk and intraocular hypertension is discussed. The results show that when hypertension and defects of perfusion are present in the same eye the visual field defect is always present and it is more severe.
