Exosomes, extracellular vesicles, are present in uterine flushing fluids (UFs), which are involved in conceptus-endometrial interactions during peri-implantation periods. Despite several studies on intrauterine exosomes conducted, the roles conceptus and endometrial exosomes play during peri-implantation periods have not been well characterized. To investigate the effect of bovine intrauterine exosomes on conceptus implantation, exosomes isolated from bovine UFs during peri-implantation periods were subjected to global protein analysis. The analysis detected 596 exosomal proteins, including ru

The mechanisms of cardiac repair after myocardial infarction (MI) are complicated and not well-understood currently. It is known that exosomes are released from most cells, recognized as new candidates with important roles in intercellular and tissue-level communication. Cells can package proteins and RNA messages into exosome and secret to recipient cells, which regulate gene expression in recipient cells. The research on exosomes in cardiovascular disease is just emerging. It is well-known that exosomes from cardiomyocyte can transfect endothelial cells, stem cells, fibroblasts and smooth mu

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a common cause of ESRD. Affected individuals inherit a defective copy of either PKD1 or PKD2, which encode polycystin-1 (PC1) or polycystin-2 (PC2), respectively. PC1 and PC2 are secreted on urinary exosome-like vesicles (ELVs) (100-nm diameter vesicles), in which PC1 is present in a cleaved form and may be complexed with PC2. Here, label-free quantitative proteomic studies of urine ELVs in an initial discovery cohort (13 individuals with PKD1 mutations and 18 normal controls) revealed that of 2008 ELV proteins, 9 (0.32%) were expressed a

BACKGROUND: Viruses enter host cells through interactions of viral ligands with cellular receptors. Viruses can also enter cells in a receptor-independent fashion. Mechanisms regarding the receptor-independent viral entry into cells have not been fully elucidated. Exosomal trafficking between cells may offer a mechanism by which viruses can enter cells.
METHODS: To investigate the role of exosomes on cellular viral entry, we employed neural stem cell-derived exosomes and adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) for the proof-of-principle study.
RESULTS: Exosomes significantly enhanced Ad5 entry in Coxsackie

Exosomes, nanoscale extracellular vesicles secreted by various cell types, have emerged as pivotal mediators of intercellular communication in pancreatic diseases. They carry proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids that mirror the molecular state of their parent cells, thereby influencing inflammation, fibrosis, and tumorigenesis. This review summarizes current evidence on the roles of exosomes in acute and chronic pancreatitis as well as pancreatic cancer. In acute pancreatitis, exosomes regulate inflammatory cascades and contribute to remote organ injury, while mesenchymal stem cell-derived exos

Avulsions of the upper third of the ear often present with skin flaps of compromised vascularity. Although initially viable, these flaps may later develop ischemic changes ranging from epidermolysis to full-thickness necrosis, delaying healing. Angiogenesis, primarily mediated by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), is essential for tissue repair. In children, VEGF promotes endothelial cell migration and proliferation, accelerating wound healing. Currently, VEFG is the primary target of therapeutic angiogenesis approaches, and microRNAs have emerged as key angiogenic regulators. Exosomes

Exosomes, nanoscale extracellular vesicles (30-150 nm), play a critical role in intercellular communication by transporting bioactive molecules, including proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. These vesicles have emerged as a transformative tool for drug delivery in brain diseases, particularly due to their ability to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a major challenge in treating central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Recent studies have highlighted the potential of exosome-based therapies in treating neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, neuroinflammatory conditi

Bone maintains a relatively stable bone mass by balancing bone formation and resorption. The development of osteoporosis is closely associated with the disruption of this balance. Muscles and bones, integral components of the musculoskeletal system, are functionally interconnected, and the onset of osteoporosis is frequently linked to the decline in skeletal muscle function. Exosomes play a crucial role in facilitating chemical information exchange between muscles and bones. This study aims to elucidate the effects of skeletal muscle-derived exosomes on bone formation and resorption, investiga

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles within the nanosized range that play roles in intercellular communication and thus have certain biological activities. The secretory signaling communication mechanism is an efficient way of exchanging information between cells and has been investigated as nature's therapeutic drug carriers. This review will summarize the potential of exosomes as therapeutic tools and drug delivery vehicles for corneal pathologies. The cornea is an avascular ocular tissue, and its healing is a complex process including cell death and migration, cell proliferation and differen

Pituitary neuroendocrine tumors are common, typically benign intracranial neoplasms arising from well-differentiated anterior pituitary cells with prevalence of clinically relevant pituitary tumor of 89 in 100 000 people. Despite the growing number of published studies, there is still a need for diagnostic and predictive biomarkers of pituitary adenomas. Prompt determination of tendency of the tumor for invasive growth and aggressive behavior would allow for earlier and more effective treatment. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes, are particles released by cells containing cell-s

Ischemic stroke is the fourth leading cause of adult disability in the US, and it is a huge social burden all over the world. However, the efficient treatment of ischemic stroke is not available. An apparent reason for failing to find or develop an intervention for ischemic stroke is contributed to the tight blood-brain barrier (BBB). The unique characteristics of exosomes that can traverse BBB have been highlighted among researchers investigating interventions for ischemic stroke conditions. Additionally, intermittent hypoxic training has been considered a potential intervention in the treatm

Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is an allergen-specific T-cell-mediated inflammatory response, albeit with unclear pathogenesis. Exosomes are nanoscale extracellular vesicles secreted by several cell types and widely distributed in various biological fluids. Exosomes affect the occurrence and development of ACD through immunoregulation among other ways. Nevertheless, the role of exosomes in ACD warrants further clarification. This review examines the progress of research into exosomes and their involvement in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of ACD and provides ideas for exploring

Beauty is an eternal pursuit of all people. Wound repair, anti-aging, inhibiting hyperpigmentation and hair loss are the main demands for medical aesthetics. At present, the repair and remodeling of human body shape and function in medical aesthetics are often achieved by injection of antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and botulinum toxin, stem cell therapy. However, there are some challenges, such as difficulty controlling the injection dose, abnormal local contour, increased foreign body sensation, and the risk of tumor occurrence and deformity induced by stem cell therapy. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have become important seed cells in therapy because of their immunosuppressive function and anti-inflammatory effects. MSCs exert immunosuppressive effects through direct contact or paracrine action. The paracrine functions of MSCs are at least partially mediated by exosomes, which are membrane vesicles, carrying abundant proteins, nucleic acids and other active molecules. MSC-exos have heterogeneity. The exosomes from different donors, tissues generations of MSCs carry different bioactive molecules. These cargos are transferred to recipient cells by endocytosis o

Vascular calcification (VC) is the abnormal deposition of calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals in the vessel wall and can be commonly observed in diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and chronic inflammatory disease. It is closely associated with mortality from cardiovascular events. Traditionally, calcification is considered as a degenerative disease associated with the aging process, while increasing evidence has shown that the occurrence and development of calcification is an active biological process, which is highly regulated by multiple factors. The molecular mechanisms of VC have not ye

Salivary exosomes are extracellular vesicles (EVs) with abundant CD63 immunoreactivity on their surface. Based on their size and protein composition, these exosomes can be categorized into two classes of exosomes I (mean diameter of 83.5 nm) and II (mean diameter of 40.5 nm). We have attempted to review the features of these exosomes, including origin, composition, separation methods, and their application in medicine. Not only the composition of salivary exosomes is invaluable in term of diagnosis, but can also afford an understanding in roles of the contents and components of these exosomes

Neurodevelopmental lifelong pathologies defined by problems with social interaction, communication capacity and presence of repetitive/stereotyped clusters of behavior and interests are grouped under the definition of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD prevalence is still increasing, indicating the need to identify specific biomarkers and novel pharmacotherapies. Neuroinflammation and neuro-immune cross-talk dysregulation are specific hallmarks of ASD, offering the possibility of treating these disorders by stem cell therapy. Indeed, cellular strategies have been postulated, proposed and appl
