Primary sporotrichosis of the eye is very rare; most infections are limited to the conjunctiva or adnexa. We report a case of Sporothrix endophthalmitis associated with necrotizing ethmoid sinusitis developing in a young diabetic man with ketoacidosis. The infection clinically resembled rhino-ophthalmic mycormycosis. Cure followed evisceration and an abbreviated course (215 mg) of amphotericin B. Sporothrix must now be regarded as another fungal agent capable of causing primary rhino-ophthalmic infection similar to Mucor.

A survey of 198 patients (210 eyes) with intraocular or intraorbital foreign bodies is presented. Most were males between 16 and 30 years of age, and 6.1% of cases were bilateral. The commonest cause was a flying particle while using a hand hammer, followed by fragments of bomb and mine blasts. Intraorbital foreign bodies occurred in 78 eyes and intraocular foreign bodies in 132 eyes. Irreparable damage caused 13 eyes (6.2%) to be enucleated. A 70 year old man presented with systemic signs of toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) following consumption of diclofenac tablets for a prodromal illness a week back. Ophthalmic evaluation showed no perception of light in both eyes along with lid edema, total corneal sloughing, and pus-filled anterior chamber. An amniotic membrane transplant was planned but within a few hours, both eyes developed panophthalmitis with restricted extraocular movements and mild proptosis and had to be eviscerated. This is perhaps the first case showing such devastating sequelae of TEN.

Surgical outcome and complications following evisceration and implantation of intraocular silicone prosthesis (ISP) in 20 canine eyes with end-stage glaucoma were analyzed, including clinical signs, complications, cosmetic appearance, and owners' responses. Each question was submitted three times to ChatGPT-4o and Gemini, and responses were evaluated for consistency, accuracy, appropriateness, and potential harm. Readability was assessed using Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level scores.
