Forty-nine consecutive eyes with nonclearing vitreous hemorrhage not associated with retinal or choroidal vascular disease underwent vitrectomy. Etiologies included vitreous hemorrhage during anterior segment surgery (22 eyes), blunt trauma (8 eyes), retinal tears with and without retinal detachment (8 eyes), Terson's syndrome (2 eyes), avulsed retinal vessel (1 eye), and idiopathic cases (8 eyes). PURPOSE: To characterize the clinical features of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) with asteroid hyalosis treated by pars plana vitrectomy.
METHODS: Vitrectomy was performed in 26 eyes with PDR accompanied by asteroid hyalosis (7 eyes with vitreous hemorrhage, 6 eyes with tractional retinal detachment with vitreous hemorrhage, and 13 eyes with tractional retinal detachment without vitreous hemorrhage). In a survey of 58 aphakic eyes examined 5 to 10 years after surgery, 12% had episcleral vessels in the inner aspect of the cataract incision and almost half of these eyes showed evidence of mild intraocular hemorrhage. Analysis of these and 33 other eyes indicates that argon laser treatment is only temporarily effective in preventing intraocular hemorrhage. Limbal cryotherapy is effective in a one- to four-year follow-up. While these vessels are a common cause of transient intraocular hemorrhage in aphakic eyes, serious sequelae are rare and treatment is usually unnecessary.

PURPOSE: Visual function and treatment response after anti-vascular endothelial growth factor monotherapy were compared between polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) with and without hemorrhage.

Recurrent vitreous hemorrhage associated with proliferative retinopathy can occur in eyes that do not satisfactorily respond to argon laser pantretinal photocoagulation. To evaluate the effect of relatively low-risk surgical intervention, we performed peripheral retinal cryopexy on 24 eyes of 23 diabetic patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and vitreous hemorrhage. PURPOSE: To determine the risk factors including retinal or vitreous hemorrhage for retinal detachment after laser photocoagulation in threshold or aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity.
METHODS: The medical records of 184 eyes of 94 consecutive infants who underwent diode laser photocoagulation for threshold or aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity between 1996 and 2006 were retrospectively reviewed. METHODS: This is a prospective randomized control trial. Pars plana vitrectomy operations were performed on two cases of vitreous hemorrhage due to chronic myelogenous leukemia. PURPOSE: This is the first report to our knowledge of ischemic retinopathy in a pediatric patient with Upshaw-Schulman syndrome (USS).
METHODS: A 6-year-old girl previously diagnosed with USS was referred to our clinic with exodeviation of the left eye and a 2-month-long decrease in vision of both eyes.
