BACKGROUND: Lid tumors show a heterogenous clinical spectrum. Tumors which display some criteria of malignancy may histologically be diagnosed as inflammatory lesions without any neoplastic component. In contrast, malignant tumors can induce changes on the lid margin mimicking inflammatory changes.
MATERIAL AND METHODS/RESULTS: Certain examples of lid tumors are shown to illustrate potential pitfalls as well as clinical unequivocal cases. The clinical appearance of the lesions is correlated with the histologic findings.

PURPOSE: : To study the epidemiological pattern and diagnostic accuracy of histopathologically proven eyelid lesions over a period of two decades.
METHODS: : A retrospective study of all histopathologically proven eyelid lesions from April 1996 to March 2016 was conducted. The lesions were broadly categorized as benign or malignant. The authors present a case of an eyelid eccrine porocarcinoma, a very rare malignant sweat gland tumor characterized histopathologically by nests of atypical poromatous cells and the presence of duct-like lumina. Histopathologic analysis of this case also exhibited numerous loose tumor cells in the adjacent tear film, a finding that has not been previously described.
