Thirty-eight consecutive patients who underwent isolated replacement of the aortic valve with fascia lata in 1970 were compared with a similar series of patients undergoing homograft replacement of the aortic valve. These series were well matched in number, age sex of patients, symptomatology, valvular disease, electrocardiographic and roentegenographic changes, and preoperative cardiac catheterization data. The mean follow-up time was 73 months in the fascia lata series and 69.1 months in the homograft series, and all the post-operative survivors were reviewed. The early and long-term results

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Combat-related injuries to the upper limb pose significant reconstructive challenges, particularly in resource-limited, conflict-zone settings. Innovative strategies are essential to preserve hand function, and the choice of an optimal reconstruction remains complex. Temporary wound dressings must foster healing and protect vital structures during the interval before definitive closure. This report evaluates the effectiveness of a tensor fascia lata (TFL) graft combined with negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) as a temporary dressing for complex wounds in auster

We reported a case of giant bulla with Poland's syndrome, only left pectoral major and minor muscles defect. A 58-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with shortness of breath on exertion. Computed tomographic scan revealed right giant bulla in emphysematous lung. The giant bulla was resected by linear stapler with autologous fascia lata. Though minor air leakage persisted for 5 postoperative days, the postoperative course was uneventful. It could be effective to reinforce staple line by using autologous fascia lata in emphysematous bulla without any infectious problem.

Authors report their experience with the V-Y advancement flap in the coverage of trochanteric pressure sores. Nine flaps have been performed concerning 7 patients. Trochanteric sores in paraplegia or tetraplegia may lead to suppurative arthritis of the hip, with a risk of anaerobic infection and acute septicaemia. The treatment has to be as complete as possible. The trochanteric sore is debrided, with special attention given to removing all necrotic material, the surrounding bursa, and the bony prominence of the greater trochanter. The debrided trochanteric region is then covered by a well-vas

We evaluated the results of fifty-eight fascia lata transfers and anterior hip releases in thirty-three myelodysplastic patients with a minimum follow-up of 10.9 years. The procedure does not appear to achieve hip stability or prevent recurrent flexion deformity. Pelvic obliquity occurs secondary to scoliosis and results in increased instability of the hip on the high side and ischial decubitus ulcers on the low side. The degree of scoliosis and pelvic obliquity is related to the level of neural involvement. Similarly, ambulatory status is dependent on neural function and is not affected by in

AIM: High-energy ankle traumas often lead to extensive soft tissue loss and ligament damage, making reconstruction both challenging and crucial for restoring stability and function. This study evaluated the effectiveness of using a free anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap with a fascia lata extension for addressing complex soft tissue defects and repairing the deltoid ligament in complex post-traumatic ankle injuries.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 38-year-old man was examined at the Plastic Surgery Unit three months after a motorcycle crash for reconstruction of a soft tissue defect and deltoid ligament re

BACKGROUND: When one is performing superior capsular reconstruction (SCR), graft thickness is an important factor for achieving sufficient glenohumeral stability. However, when a graft of sufficient length and thickness is prepared and inserted into the subacromial space, it is often challenging to secure the field of view arthroscopically. To solve this problem, we devised a mini-open SCR technique. This study aimed to compare the clinical effectiveness of this technique with that of arthroscopic SCR.
METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 46 consecutive patients with Hamada class

Surgery for craniopharyngiomas can be challenging due to the involvement of multiple critical neurovascular structures. The expanded endoscopic endonasal approach can provide superior access to suprasellar craniopharyngiomas, particularly with retrochiasmatic extension and significant hypothalamic involvement. We describe the surgical technique used to treat a 30-year-old patient who presented with 4 weeks of worsening vision, fatigue, and memory loss. His vision was counting fingers at 1 feet on the right and 20/800 on the left with a temporal hemianopsia. Laboratory evaluation demonstrated c

OBJECTIVE: Postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak is a common complication in the practice of neurosurgery, and various surgical techniques were described to overcome and manage this problem. Besides not applying watertight closure of the duraplasty, the inviability and the poor vascularization of the graft and/or the dura (eg, reoperations, multiple operations, or cranial radiotherapy) may lead to delayed healing of the suture site and resultant persistent CSF leaks. We present a simple technique that uses on-site muscle flap with pedicle to supply and vascularize the autologous fascia

Post-traumatic severe patella infera and intra-articular adhesion may lead to a severe knee stiffness. We report a 29-year-old man, a muslim prayer leader, who had a previous knee injury. He presented with knee movement from ten degrees to 30 degrees, patellar infera with a length of patella to length of patellar tendon ratio of 2:5, and severe knee arthrofibrosis. He underwent incision of the patella ligament and open arthrofibrosis release, leaving a tendon gap and skin defect of 5 cm. Reconstruction was successfully done using a free vascularised composite tensor fascia lata flap. He regain
