Fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, and hearing loss or tinnitus after cisplatin treatment: A retrospective cohort study.

Cisplatin use is often limited by its ototoxic side effects, which can lead to irreversible hearing loss. Preventing cisplatin-induced ototoxicity is crucial to improve patient outcomes. Fluoxetine and fluvoxamine, both selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors antidepressants, inhibit the NLR pyrin domain-containing protein 3 inflammasome, a potential therapeutic target for preventing ototoxicity. However, human studies have not evaluated if these antidepressants may protect against cisplatin-induced ototoxicity. The object of this study is to assess the association between fluoxetine or fluvox

Sleep changes during long-term treatment of depression with fluvoxamine--a home-based study.

RATIONALE: The effects of antidepressants on sleep in depression have been extensively investigated, although to date there have been relatively few studies of newer drug classes such as specific serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). All reported studies on SSRIs have been conducted in patients admitted to sleep laboratories and very few longitudinal studies have continued to measure sleep beyond 5 weeks of treatment. The growing trend towards outpatient and community care has highlighted the need for studies of sleep in depression in a more naturalistic setting, and during longer periods of

Fluvoxamine and clomipramine in depressed hospitalised patients: results from a randomised, double-blind study.

The efficacy of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and the tricyclic antidepressants is well established, although data on the efficacy of SSRIs in severe depression is limited. Several studies have demonstrated that fluvoxamine is as effective as clomipramine in the treatment of severe depression. The aim of this four-week study was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of fluvoxamine and clomipramine in hospitalised depressed patients. Patients were eligible for entry into the study if they had an established diagnosis of depression, and an overall score of more than 17 o

Chronic tension-type headache, mood depression and serotonin: therapeutic effects of fluvoxamine and mianserine.

Forty out-patients affected by chronic tension-type headache were selected according to the diagnostic criteria of International Headache Society (IHS) Headache Classification Committee. In a controlled trial patients received placebo for a four-week baseline period, then they were randomized in double-blind fashion to therapy with mianserine (30-60 mg/day) of fluvoxamine (50-100 mg/day) for another eight-week period. Frequency of headache, pain severity and analgesic consumption were evaluated using a self-monitoring system. Mood depression was evaluated at 0, 4 and 8 weeks by using Zung's Se

Eleven new metabolites of fluvoxamine detected in the solid tissues and body fluids obtained from a deceased overdosed with fluvoxamine in vivo, and the metabolites in the human liver microsomes in vitro using LC-HR-MS/MS.

PURPOSE: Fluvoxamine (FLV) has been used widely as an antidepressant agent belonging to the group of second-generation selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. However, only one work on the human metabolism of FLV was reported in 1983, examining a human urine specimen, and tentatively identified nine metabolites. Therefore, in the present work, the metabolites of FLV were examined in the liver, bile, and urine from a human cadaver, and the metabolites produced in the human liver microsomes (HLMs) in vitro were also examined. METHODS: Metabolites in each matrix were treated altogether in a tub

The Predictive Role of Quantitative Electroencephalography in Evaluation of Responsiveness of Obsessive-compulsive Disorder Patients to Fluvoxamine.

INTRODUCTION: It is not surprising that an obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patient does not respond desirably to the first choice of medication, and it may last up to one year to find the best treatment. According to the consequences of failed antidepressant therapy for OCD, any factor that can predict responsiveness would be of high importance. We investigated the potential predictive value of quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) in the responsiveness of OCD patients to fluvoxamine. METHODS: We included 40 medication-free, non-depressed OCD patients assessed before the intervention

Effects of neonatal fluvoxamine administration on the physical development and activity of the serotoninergic system in white rats.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), including fluvoxamine, are widely used to treat depressive disorders in pregnant women. These antidepressants effectively penetrate through the placental barrier, affecting the fetus during the critical phase of neurodevelopment. Some clinical studies have linked prenatal exposure to SSRIs with increased neonatal mortality, premature birth, decreased fetal growth and delay in psychomotor development. However, the effects of prenatal exposure to SSRIs remain unknown. The administration of SSRIs in rodents during the first postnatal weeks is consi

[Stereotyped behaviors and compulsive complaints of pain improved by fluvoxamine in two cases of frontotemporal dementia].

There have been no systematic efforts to manage and treat patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), but Perry described pharmacologic interventions for some behavioral syndromes in 2001. In Perry's report, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) were recommended as first choice drugs because they were well tolerated and might have an effect on some symptoms such as compulsive symptoms and eating abnormalities. Some reports were presented concerning Japanese FTD patients which showed the effect of SSRI on stereotyped behaviors and eating abnormalities by Nishikawa, et al. (2001), Iked

Topiramate versus fluvoxamine in the treatment of pathological gambling: a randomized, blind-rater comparison study.

Pathologic gambling (PG) is a highly prevalent and disabling impulse control disorder. Recent studies have demonstrated that PG patients respond well to treatment with SSRIs, mood stabilizers, and opioid antagonists. These findings support the idea that PG and other disorders of impulse control may be conceptualized as part of the obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders. Pilot studies have shown topiramate to be effective in the treatment of specific disorders of impulse control. The aim of the study is to compare the effectiveness of topiramate versus fluvoxamine in the treatment of PG. Thirt

Real-world pharmacovigilance and clinical risks of fluvoxamine: A disproportionality analysis based on FAERS data.

Fluvoxamine is a widely used treatment for depressive disorders, yet real-world safety data remain understudied. This study aimed to evaluate the safety profile of fluvoxamine by analyzing adverse events (AEs) reported in the FAERS pharmacovigilance database. Data on fluvoxamine-related AEs were collected from the first quarter of 2008 to the second quarter of 2025. Disproportionality analyses were performed using the Reporting Odds Ratio (ROR), Proportional Reporting Ratio (PRR), Bayesian Confidence Propagation Neural Network (BCPNN), and Empirical Bayes Geometric Mean (EBGM) methods. The effects of sigma-1 agonist fluvoxamine on experimental induced tardive dyskinesia model in rats.

Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is a persistent involuntary complex movement disorder that is known to occur with long-term antipsychotic treatment. Despite being a well-recognized complication of this treatment, its symptoms are often masked by the antipsychotic agents, only to become apparent upon reducing or terminating the treatment. In an effort to advance our understanding of TD pathophysiology and to identify potential therapies, the current study aimed to establish an animal model of TD by administering haloperidol to rats and to evaluate the efficacy of fluvoxamine, a selective serotonin reup

Use of acetylacetone for nano-level assay of fluvoxamine maleate in pure form and pharmaceutical formulation.

The present study developed and validated a selective spectrofluorimetric method designed to assay fluvoxamine maleate (FLX). The validated method relied on the condensation reaction between FLX and acetylacetone/formaldehyde using acetate buffer (pH 4.2). The formed fluorescent product was measured at an emission wavelength of 479 nm after excitation at 419 nm. Parameters that influenced the reaction were studied and adjusted accurately. The constructed calibration graph was rectilinear over the range 200-2000 ng ml-1 and the estimated limit of detection was 60 ng ml-1 . Two products from an

Interest of a loading dose of milnacipran in endogenous depressive inpatients. Comparison with the standard regimen and with fluvoxamine.

A multicenter controlled study was designed to test the hypothesis that a loading dose of an antidepressant could shorten the latency of its clinical efficacy. Three parallel groups of about 40 endogenous depressive inpatients received either a loading dose of milnacipran (300 mg daily for 2 weeks and 150 mg daily during the 2 following weeks), the standard regimen of milnacipran in severe depression (200 mg daily for 4 weeks), or fluvoxamine (200 mg daily for 4 weeks).
