We investigate the feasibility of arthroscopic fixation of comminuted glenoid fractures using cannulated screws and suture anchors. We retrospectively review 11 cases of closed comminuted glenoid fractures treated at our institution from August 2010 to May 2013. The 11 patients, 8 males and 3 females, had a mean age of 41 years (range: 27-55 years). The mechanisms of injury were traffic accidents in 9 cases and falls from height in 2 cases. The mean time from injury to surgery was 12 days (range: 3-28 days). All glenoid fractures were confirmed on x-ray and computed tomography. The major fractu

PURPOSE: Treating comminuted mandibular fractures remains a challenge. In this study, we used titanium mesh to treat comminuted mandibular fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nine patients with traumatically comminuted mandibular fractures who received open reduction and internal stable fixation with titanium mesh were retrospectively reviewed. Open reduction-internal stable fixation was performed 7 to 10 days after primary debridement of the facial trauma. After the fractured mandible and the displaced fragments were reduced, the titanium mesh was reshaped according to the morphology of the ma

INTRODUCTION: Subtrochanteric fractures are difficult fractures associated with high incidence of complications and various implants, both intramedullary and extramedullary, are available for their fixation. Traditional extramedullary implants are associated with higher rate of implant failure and varus collapse while the biomechanically better intramedullary nails are technically demanding and are associated with higher re-operation rates. This study was done to evaluate the outcome following biological (indirect) fixation of unstable comminuted subtrochanteric fractures with proximal femur-l

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcome of open severe comminuted tibial plateau fractures treated with minimal internal fixation and circular external fixation frames.
METHODS: Fifteen open comminuted tibial plateau fractures were involved in this retrospective study. In eight knees, the fracture was reduced through an extended open traumatic wound. In seven patients, another limited incision over the major fracture line or area of comminution was performed to assist in reducing the articular reduction. Simultaneous bone grafting, soft tissue reconstruction, and sta

BACKGROUND: For comminuted Rolando's fracture, external fixation with early mobilization is the treatment of choice however, there is controversy in this treatment. Low-profile or mini external fixator can be used, but expense and availability of this kind of implant in Thailand has resulted in using various techniques of surgery. The purpose of this retrospective study was to present the authors' alternative technique with modified implants and the outcome in the management of comminuted Rolando's fracture.

Forty-two comminuted intraarticular fractures of the humeral condyles treated between 1975 and 1981 were analyzed in order to compare the results of operative versus nonoperative management. Twenty-nine patients were treated by open reduction and internal fixation; the remainder were treated by nonoperative techniques. Functional results were evaluated by the method of Bickel and Perry. Of the patients treated by open reduction and internal fixation, 76% had an excellent or good result. Of the nonsurgically-treated patients, only eight percent had a satisfactory result. BACKGROUND: Surgical treatment of comminuted and multiple facial fractures is challenging, as identifying the bone anatomy and restoring the alignment are complicated. To overcome the difficulties, 3D-printed "jigsaw puzzle" has been innovated to improve the surgical outcome. This study aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of 3D-printed model in facial fracture restoration procedures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with traumatic craniomaxillofacial fractures treated at a single institution were enrolled in this study. The exclusion criteria included the presence of mandibular fractures, gre

Emergency physicians in the field are sometimes confronted with cases wherein patients cannot be intubated and ventilated. In some cases, cricothyrotomy, the method of choice for securing an emergency airway, may not have a successful outcome. We report a rare case of a 35-yearold male patient with avulsion of the larynx and a comminuted fracture of the jawbone, due to entrapment in a dung excavator. Prehospital tracheotomy was successfully performed. In cases with crush injuries to the larynx, anatomic structures, including the ligamentum conicum, are destroyed. In addition, massive subcutane

BACKGROUND: Radial head implant sizing can be based on the maximum head diameter (D-MAX), the minimum head diameter (D-MIN), or the articular dish diameter (D-DISH). The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability of the different radial head sizing techniques and to investigate the effect of radial head fracture comminution on measurement accuracy.
METHODS: Ten observers measured 11 cadaveric radial heads with 3 radial head features (D-MAX, D-MIN, and D-DISH diameter). Radial heads were then fractured into 2, 3, and 4 parts, and the measurements were repeated. Variability was assesse

Management of a displaced comminuted patellar fracture is challenging. Tension band wiring and lag screw fixation are not suitable for such a fracture pattern. Stainless steel wiring with various configurations has been the mainstay of treatment. However, issues of loss of fixation and breakage of wire have not been resolved yet. Partial or total patellectomy is the last resort with a detrimental effect on quadriceps power. Braided titanium cable is stronger in tensile strength and better in fatigue resistance than the stainless steel monofilament wire, and the tension of fixation could be con

OBJECTIVE: To study the result of less invasive fixation in treating comminuted fracture of distal tibia.
METHODS: From 2002 to 2008, 48 patients with comminuted fracture of distal tibia were treated with surgery. The closed reduction and less invasive fixation were done to stable broken fibula, and the reduction by Kirschner wire to pick was used for relatively larger debris of tibia. The Kirschner wire or screw were used to fix fracture after the restore of the ankle cavity position and the alignment of the tibia. Partial weight loading and functional exercise of ankle joint were done at 6t
