Deep learning based approach: automated gingival inflammation grading model using gingival removal strategy.

Gingival inflammation grade serves as a well-established index in periodontitis. The aim of this study was to develop a deep learning network utilizing a novel feature extraction method for the automatic assessment of gingival inflammation. T-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) was utilized for dimensionality reduction. A convolutional neural network (CNN) model based on DenseNet was developed for the identification and evaluation of gingival inflammation. To enhance the performance of the deep learning (DL) model, a novel teeth removal algorithm was implemented. Additionally, a

Integrating EEG and Ensemble Learning for Accurate Grading and Quantification of Generalized Anxiety Disorder: A Novel Diagnostic Approach.

Current assessments for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) are often subjective and do not rely on a standardized measure to evaluate the GAD across its severity levels. The lack of objective and multi-level quantitative diagnostic criteria poses as a significant challenge for individualized treatment strategies. To address this need, this study aims to establish a GAD grading and quantification diagnostic model by integrating an electroencephalogram (EEG) and ensemble learning. In this context, a total of 39 normal subjects and 80 GAD patients were recruited and divided into four groups: norm

Congenital Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction - Early Diagnosis and Graded Therapeutic Approach as Key Points for Successful Management.

PURPOSE: Epiphora in childhood is a frequent symptom that is typically associated with Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO). Nevertheless, inflammatory pathologies of the ocular surface as well as inside the eye, or even congenital glaucoma, must be considered in the differential diagnosis. METHODS: A comprehensive literature review concerning CNLDO was conducted. Different therapeutic steps are categorized and summarized in order to reflect the existing staged therapeutic concept. RESULTS: For CNLDO, a staged therapeutic concept is applicable, resulting in a cure rate of approxi

Emerging approaches of wound healing in experimental models of high-grade oral mucositis induced by anticancer therapy.

Clinical guidelines for oral mucositis (OM) still consist in palliative care. Herein, we summarize cellular and molecular mechanisms of OM ulceration in response to chemical therapies in animal models. We discuss evidenced anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant drugs which have not been ever used for OM, such as synthetic peptides as well as cell therapy with mesenchymal stem cells; amniotic membranes, mucoadhesive polymers loaded with anti-inflammatory agents and natural or synthetic electrospun. These approaches have been promising to allow the production of drug-loaded membranes, scaffolds for

Hypoxia Inducible Factors' Signaling in Pediatric High-Grade Gliomas: Role, Modelization and Innovative Targeted Approaches.

The brain tumor microenvironment has recently become a major challenge in all pediatric cancers, but especially in brain tumors like high-grade gliomas. Hypoxia is one of the extrinsic tumor features that interacts with tumor cells, but also with the blood-brain barrier and all normal brain cells. It is the result of a dramatic proliferation and expansion of tumor cells that deprive the tissues of oxygen inflow. However, cancer cells, especially tumor stem cells, can endure extreme hypoxic conditions by rescheduling various genes' expression involved in cell proliferation, metabolism and angio

Tuberculum sellae meningiomas: grading scale to assess surgical outcomes using the transcranial versus transsphenoidal approach.

OBJECTIVE Tuberculum sellae meningiomas (TSMs) are surgically challenging tumors that can severely impair vision. Debate exists regarding whether the transcranial (TC) or endoscopic transsphenoidal (TS) approach is best for resecting these tumors, and there are few large series comparing these approaches. METHODS A retrospective chart review was performed at 2 academic centers comparing TC and TS approaches with respect to vision, extent of resection, recurrence, and complications. The authors report surgical outcomes and propose a simple preoperative tumor grading scale that scores tumor size

Successful Fertility Preservation in a Case of Low-Grade Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma: A Multidisciplinary Approach Through the Oncofertility Network.

Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LGESS) is a rare disease, accounting for less than 1% of all uterine malignancies. Standard treatment is total hysterectomy and bilateral tubal oophorectomy, although fertility preservation may be desirable because of the young age of onset. We document a case of fertility preservation in a 27-year-old nulligravida diagnosed with LGESS, which not only enabled the successful birth of two live infants but also underscores the efficacy of a multidisciplinary approach to patient treatment through the Hyogo Oncofertility Network (HOF-net). The patient underwen

Optimizing inspection intensity under the graded approach: a Bayesian decision-theoretic model for radiation protection regulation.

The graded approach is a central principle of radiation protection regulation: regulatory requirements and oversight activities should be commensurate with the radiation risks associated with practices involving radiation sources. Although the principle is widely accepted, its practical implementation often relies on qualitative categories, expert judgement and institutional routines rather than an explicit decision model. This paper develops a Bayesian decision-theoretic formulation of inspection intensity under the graded approach. Regulated practices are represented by uncertain latent safe

Thermography-Assisted Grading in Wagner Classification: A New Approach for Diabetic Foot Assessment. A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot is a serious complication of diabetes mellitus that generates lifelong consequences on the health and quality of life of affected patients. One of the first grading systems developed for diabetic foot was the Wagner classification system. Despite its prolonged use in the medical field, accurate clinical assessment requires an experienced evaluator to minimize errors and bias. Using infrared thermography, a technology that quantitatively measures temperature changes in areas of interest related to altered vascular flow derived from inflammatory processes, could diminis

Safety and Efficacy in the Transcortical and Transsylvian Approach in Insular High-Grade Gliomas: A Comparative Series of 58 Patients.

Gliomas within the insular region represent one of the most challenging problems in neurosurgical oncology. There are two main surgical approaches to address the complex vascular network and functional areas around the insula: the transsylvian approach and the transcortical approach. In the literature, there is not a clear consensus on the best approach in terms of safety and efficacy. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of these approaches and to analyze prognostic factors on the natural history of insular gliomas. Patients with newly diagnosed high-grade insular glioma

Credibility of the evidence on green space and human health: an overview of meta-analyses using evidence grading approaches.

BACKGROUND: Green space is an important part of the human living environment, with many epidemiological studies estimating its impact on human health. However, no study has quantitatively assessed the credibility of the existing evidence, impeding their translations into policy decisions and hindering researchers from identifying new research gaps. This overview aims to evaluate and rank such evidence credibility. METHODS: Following the PRISMA guideline, we systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases for systematic reviews with meta-analyses concerning green spaces an
