A rare case of duodenal spindle cell lipoma with gastrointestinal bleeding.

The manuscript reports a rare case of duodenal spindle cell lipoma (SCL), which is a rarely reported benign lipomatous neoplasm of the gastrointestinal tract. It is less commonly observed within the duodenum. Our patient presented with gastrointestinal bleeding, which is a rare symptom of lipomas. This report describes the appearance of the neoplasm on endoscopy as well as endoscopic ultrasonography. The ulcer on the surface of the neoplasm is another rare feature. The correct diagnosis of SCL was based on its microscopic features and immunohistochemical findings. We believe that our study mak

Metastatic Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma Identified in a Gastric Biopsy: Diagnostic Recognition in an Unusual Site.

Metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) to the stomach is rare and may mimic other clear cell neoplasms when encountered in limited biopsy samples. We report a case in which a gastric biopsy provided the first histopathologic confirmation of metastatic ccRCC in a 65-year-old man who had not yet undergone tissue sampling of a suspected renal lesion. The biopsy showed nests of epithelioid cells with clear cytoplasm and delicate vasculature, and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining demonstrated strong positivity for paired box gene 8 (PAX8), renal cell carcinoma (RCC) marker, and CD10, s

Endoscopic Full-Thickness Resection for Gastrointestinal Subepithelial and Epithelial Neoplasia: Current Status, Indications, and Technical and Oncological Challenges-A Multispecialty Perspective.

Endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR) has emerged as a minimally invasive treatment for small gastrointestinal subepithelial neoplasms (SETs). In particular, the development of novel closure methods such as clip-line and various endoscopic suturing techniques has enabled the secure closure of any resultant defects. During the Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy session at the Endoscopic Forum Japan 2025, we summarized the current status of EFTR for SETs and discussed future clinical applications for epithelial neoplasms from oncological and technical perspectives. Although predominantly docume

[Diagnostic Work-up and Evaluation of Nonmalignant Ampullary Neoplasms].

Neoplasms of the ampulla of Vater account for approximately 5% of all gastrointestinal tumors, with increasing incidence due to advancements in diagnostic techniques. Among them, nonmalignant ampullary neoplasms require careful evaluation due to their potential for malignant transformation, yet accurate diagnosis remains challenging due to nonspecific symptoms and ambiguous endoscopic findings. Recent advancements in imaging technologies, including image-enhanced endoscopy, and the application of endoscopic techniques such as endoscopic ultrasound and intraductal ultrasound, have improved the

Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm associated with Urothelial carcinoma: A rare case report from Syria.

INTRODUCTION: and importance: Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm is a rare neoplasm found in the appendix vermiform. Appendiceal mucinous neoplasms are usually seen by accident during investigations or surgeries for other reasons in the abdomen. Low-grade appendiceal mucinous tumors have no specific symptoms. CASE PRESENTATION: We report an unusual case of a 72-year-old man with low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm, which was found accidently during the investigation of the bladder tumor on a CT scan. Pathological examination of the specimen showed a cystic dilation at the distal tip

Metastatic melanoma presenting as intussusception in an 80-year-old man: a case report.

Malignant melanoma of the gastrointestinal tract is an uncommon neoplasm that could be primary or metastatic. Small intestine represents the most common site for the metastatic melanoma; however, it could be found anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract. Intussusception is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction in adults compared to children. In 90% of the cases, the underlying cause can be found, and in 65% of the cases, intussusception is caused by the neoplastic process. The majority of the neoplasms are benign, and about 15% are malignant. Metastatic melanoma is one of the most common metas

An unexpected extra-gastrointestinal stromal tumor (E-GIST) on the jejunal mesentery.

Extra-gastrointestinal stromal tumors (E-GIST) are group of soft tissue neoplasm, which originates from outside the gastrointestinal tract and comprises less than 5% of the total GIST. Most commonly, they originate from the omentum, mesentery, retroperitoneum or the solid organs like liver and the pancreas. E-GIST arising from the sac of the jejunal mesentery, and mimicking preoperatively as a colonic neoplasm is very rare. Here we report an interesting case of a 55-year-old male, who presented with pain abdomen for 4 months duration. Contrast enhanced computed tomography was suggestive of rig

Recent Advances in Rabbit Oncology: Diseases, Diagnosis.

This review summarizes neoplastic diseases in pet rabbits, covering tumor types, clinical signs, and diagnostics. Common neoplasms include reproductive (mammary, uterine), hematopoietic, skin, and internal organ tumors, with diagnosis relying on imaging, cytology, and histopathology. In rabbits, reproductive tumors like uterine adenocarcinoma remain the most common tumor of female rabbits, with increased frequency noted with age. Other tumors include lymphoma, benign cutaneous neoplasms, and rare adrenal, pituitary, and gastrointestinal neoplasms. The article emphasizes ongoing research, the i

Endoscopic fine needle aspiration biopsy.

A catheter assembly that can be passed through the biopsy channel of a standard fiberoptic gastroduodenoscope was devised to permit fine needle aspiration biopsy of gastrointestinal neoplasms under direct vision of the endoscope. This technique for endoscopic aspiration biopsy was performed in ten consecutive patients with esophageal and gastric carcinomas, along with the conventional endoscopic brushing and biopsy. Endoscopic aspiration biopsy gave a positive diagnosis in all ten cases while the other two techniques gave inconclusive results in one patient with an ulcerative growth. We feel t

Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Gastrointestinal Tract and Pancreas.

Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and pancreas are a rare and heterogeneous group of neoplasms characterized by common cellular features as well as unique site-specific traits. GI and pancreatic NENs are much rarer than the more common adenocarcinomas arising at these sites. However, the incidences of GI and pancreatic NENs have increased significantly, particularly in the stomach and common site, followed by rectum, appendix, colon, and stomach. Pancreatic NENs are also uncommon, with fewer than 1 per 100,000, accounting for 1% to 2% of all pancreatic neoplasm

Synchronous Triple Primary Gastrointestinal Tract Malignancies: A Case Report.

Multiple primary malignant neoplasms are defined as the occurrence of two or more distinct malignant neoplasms in a single patient. However, synchronous triple primary malignant neoplasms have rarely been reported. We present the case of a 54-year-old male patient who was referred to our outpatient clinic after abnormal findings were detected during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy screening at a local clinic. Comprehensive evaluation using endoscopy, computed tomography, and positron emission tomography led to the simultaneous diagnosis of early gastric, early esophageal, and sigmoid colon ca

Gut inflammation and tumorigenesis: every site has a different tale to tell.

Gut inflammation has been correlated with cancerogenesis by disrupting gastrointestinal homeostasis. Numerous chronic inflammatory disorders of the tubular gastrointestinal tract (e.g., gastroesophageal reflux disease, Helicobacter pylori-induced and autoimmune chronic gastritis, celiac disease, and inflammatory bowel diseases) have been variably associated with an increased neoplastic risk. Gastrointestinal inflammation-induced neoplasms include epithelial tumors (esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma, gastric adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine tumors, small bowel adenocarcinom

A combination of the immunohistochemical markers CK7 and SATB2 is highly sensitive and specific for distinguishing primary ovarian mucinous tumors from colorectal and appendiceal metastases.

Primary ovarian mucinous tumors can be difficult to distinguish from metastatic gastrointestinal neoplasms by histology alone. The expected immunoprofile of a suspected metastatic lower gastrointestinal tumor is CK7-/CK20+/CDX2+/PAX8-. This study assesses the addition of a novel marker SATB2, to improve the diagnostic algorithm. A test cohort included 155 ovarian mucinous tumors (105 carcinomas and 50 borderline tumors) and 230 primary lower gastrointestinal neoplasms (123 colorectal adenocarcinomas and 107 appendiceal neoplasms). All cases were assessed for SATB2, PAX8 CK7, CK20, and CDX2 exp

Twin pregnancy complicated by an adnexal mass.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours are mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract.1 This case study reports the incidental finding of a left sided adnexal mass in a woman with twin pregnancy. The presence of any mass during pregnancy raises issues for patient management, the effect on the developing fetus and mode of delivery.

C-kit expression in uterine leiomyosarcomas: an immunocytochemical study of 29 cases of malignant smooth muscle tumors of the uterus.

Uterine malignant stromal tumors are rare neoplasms characterized by fatal prognosis. At the moment no effective systemic treatment is available for metastases or recurrent disease. The drugs employed in advanced neoplasms are iposfamide, doxorubicin or epidoxorubicin, but the clinical response to chemotherapy is poor. Recent studies have shown that cells in gastrointestinal stromal tumors express a growth factor receptor with tyrosine kinase activity termed c-kit. Lately reports of efficacy of a specific anticancer drug with imatinib (ST1571) based on specific molecular abnormalities of proto

Immunohistochemistry in the distinction between primary and metastatic ovarian mucinous neoplasms.

The distinction between a primary and metastatic mucinous carcinoma within the ovary may be problematic. In most cases, the distinction can be made by careful pathological examination encompassing both the gross and microscopic findings and taking into account the distribution of the disease. However, immunohistochemistry may be of value in certain scenarios. In this review, I discuss the value of markers in the distinction between primary ovarian mucinous neoplasms and metastatic mucinous carcinomas from the colorectum, appendix, pancreas, biliary tract, stomach and cervix, the most common pr

A clinically-occult gastrointestinal stromal tumor in a Meckel's diverticulum presenting as hollow organ perforation.

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. However, a neoplasm is a rare complication of Meckel's diverticulum. We report a case of a ruptured gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in a Meckel's diverticulum, presenting as hollow organ perforation, in a 76 year-old woman. To our knowledge, the case we presented here is the 6th report describing a perforated GIST within a Meckel's diverticulum. In addition, the diverticular neoplasm in our case was clinically occult because of an unusual tumor configuration. Since the treatment of asymptomatic Mec

Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms: Clinical-pathologic analysis of 48 cases treated at the Hospital Ángeles del Pedregal in Mexico City between 2018 and 2024.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Neuroendocrine neoplasms are rare tumors accounting for approximately 2% of all neoplasms, most of which (62-70%) originate in the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas. Our primary aim was to describe the clinical presentation and pathologic features of these tumors, to improve our knowledge and early identification of them. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective, cross-sectional, observational, and descriptive study was conducted on patients with a confirmed diagnosis of neuroendocrine neoplasm treated at the Hospital Ángeles del Pedregal within the time frame of 2018 a

Non-neurological manifestations of intracranial tumours: a report of four cases.

Brain neoplasms are a common cause of childhood morbidity and mortality. Neurological presentations usually result in a relatively early diagnosis and management of the neoplasms. Non neurological manifestations may result in later detection and possibly a higher eventual morbidity and mortality. Hence, the importance of a keen index of suspicion in assessment of cases to detect subtle neurological signs and symptoms. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging has been found to be especially useful in the definition of brain neoplasms. In this paper, four cases with non neurological manifestations are

[Gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumour and schwannoma: An unusual presentation in a patient without neurofibromatosis].

The majority of gastric neoplasms are of epithelial type. Stromal tumours are the next most frequent and are most commonly gastrointestinal stromal tumours, followed by leiomyoma and schwannoma. We present an exceptional case of a patient with a gastrointestinal stromal tumour with suspicion of residual gastric disease, which was diagnosed post-operatively as a schwannoma.
