Fixed-dose combination of alogliptin/pioglitazone improves glycemic control in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus independent of body mass index.

This study investigated the effects of switching from combination therapy with either alogliptin (Alo) or pioglitazone (Pio) to fixed-dose combination therapy (FDCT) with alogliptin and pioglitazone (Alo-Pio FDCT). The usefulness and efficacy of Alo-Pio FDCT were investigated. A total of 50 outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treated with Alo and 47 outpatients with T2DM treated with Pio were switched to Alo-Pio FDCT, and its efficacy and usefulness were evaluated. Significant improvements were observed in hemoglobinA1c (HbA1c), alanine transaminase (ALT), and γ-glutamyl transpept

Combined impact of body mass index and glycemic control on the efficacy of clopidogrel-aspirin therapy in patients with minor stroke or transient ischemic attack.

BACKGROUND: A single index of body mass index (BMI) may not fully address its impact on anti-platelet therapy. We aimed to elucidate the combined impact of BMI and dysglycemia expressed by glycated albumin (GA) on efficacy of clopidogrel-aspirin therapy among minor stroke (MS) or transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients. RESULTS: Patients with overweight/obesity and low GA levels still benefited from clopidogrel-aspirin therapy for stroke recurrence (Hazard ratio [HR]: 0.48, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 0.28-0.82), so did those with high GA levels but low/normal weight (HR: 0.67, 95 % CI: 0

Effect of a Low-Glycemic Index Nutritional Intervention on Body Weight and Selected Cardiometabolic Parameters in Children and Adolescents with Excess Body Weight and Dyslipidemia.

Excess body weight in pediatric patients and the resulting dyslipidemia, if left untreated, are a serious risk factor for cardiovascular disease in young adults. Despite this, there is still no effective and validated nutritional strategy for the treatment of overweight/obesity and comorbid dyslipidemia in children and adolescents. A low-glycemic index (LGI) diet may be recommended, but evidence for its effectiveness in the pediatric population is limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional intervention in children and adolescents with excess body weight and

The effect of curcumin-piperine supplementation on lipid profile, glycemic index, inflammation, and blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertriglyceridemia.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disorder associated with insulin resistance and ensuing dysglycemia, dyslipidemia, and inflammation. Owing to the putative metabolic benefits of curcumin-piperine combination, we explored the efficacy of this combination in improving cardiometabolic indices of patients with T2DM and hypertriglyceridemia. In this double-blind clinical trial, 72 patients with T2DM and hypertriglyceridemia were randomized to receive either a tablet containing 500 mg of curcuminoids plus 5 mg of piperine, or a matched placebo for 12 weeks. DIFFERENTIAL ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND GLYCEMIC CONTROL ACROSS BODY MASS INDEX IN TYPE 2 DIABETES: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF HBA1C AND FRUCTOSAMINE.

BACKGROUND: Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is the primary biomarker for assessing long-term glycemic control in type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, its wait time of 2-3 months, affects the timely intervention for the identification of acute metabolic enhancements resulting from lifestyle modifications. On the other hand, fructosamine reflects the glycemic regulation for over a period of 2-3 weeks and may provide supplementary short-term monitoring functions. Nevertheless, there is scant information comparing these markers across varying levels of physical activity and body mass index (BMI) strata in

Comparison of efficacy of low glycemic index treatment and modified Atkins diet among children with drug-resistant epilepsy: A randomized non-inferiority trial.

OBJECTIVE: The ketogenic diet has been the mainstay of treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). No comparative trials have been conducted to assess the efficacy of the two less strict ketogenic diets: modified Atkins diet (MAD) and low glycemic index treatment (LGIT). This study assesses the non-inferiority of LGIT compared with MAD. METHODS: This was an open-label randomized non-inferiority trial. Children with DRE were randomized to receive either MAD or LGIT as an add-on to anti-seizure medications. The primary endpoint was percentage seizure reduction at the end of 24 weeks of therapy

Non-linear relationship between the hepatic steatosis index and glycemic progression: evidence from a large-scale retrospective cohort study in a Chinese population.

BACKGROUND: The hepatic steatosis index (HSI) is a validated tool for assessing hepatic steatosis. While previous investigations have explored the link between HSI and prediabetes and diabetes, the connection between HSI and glycemic progression is still being explored. This research seeks to clarify the association between HSI and glycemic progression risk among a Chinese demographic. METHODS: The research encompassed a group of 76,314 Chinese adults from the Rich Healthcare Group who were free of prediabetes at the outset. Cox proportional hazard models were utilized to investigate the conn

In Situ Effects of 4,6-α- and 4,3-α-Glucanotransferases During Sourdough Fermentation: Assessing Microbial Community Dynamics, Bread Glycemic Index, Staling, and Texture.

Although some lactic acid bacteria species harbor genes encoding α-glucanotransferases (4,6-α-GTase and 4,3-α-GTase), the technological and functional implications of these enzymes within sourdough ecosystems remain poorly understood. This study investigated the effects associated with α-GTase-positive and α-GTase-negative strains of Limosilactobacillus reuteri and L. fermentum on sourdough microbiota, bread quality, and starch digestibility. Starter culture inoculation steered the assembly of the sourdough microbiota, resulting in stable acidification and altered microbial community structure

BMI and Prognostic Nutritional Index Are Independently and Positively Associated with Three Year Glycemic Change in Non-Diabetic Adults: A Community-Based Cohort Study.

Background/Objectives: Both adiposity and nutritional-inflammatory status influence glucose metabolism; however, their longitudinal associations with glycemic changes in non-diabetic populations remain unclear. We examined the independent, interactive, and joint associations of body mass index (BMI) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) with the 3-year change in HbA1c (ΔHbA1c). PNI, a composite marker of serum albumin and peripheral lymphocyte count, reflects both protein nutritional status and systemic immune competence. We hypothesized that BMI and PNI would each independently predict ΔHbA1

Higher Carbohydrate Amount and Lower Glycemic Index Increase Hunger, Diet Satisfaction, and Heartburn in Overweight and Obese Adults in the OmniCarb Randomized Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, a high-carbohydrate diet, is highly recommended based on its cardiovascular risk benefits, yet adherence remains persistently low. How subjective impressions of this diet contribute to adherence has not been thoroughly explored. The OmniCarb trial, which compared DASH-style diets varying in glycemic index (GI) and carbohydrate amount, surveyed subjective impressions of such diets. OBJECTIVES: We examined the effects of GI and carbohydrate amount on qualitative aspects of diet acceptability through secondary outcomes in the O

Triglyceride Glycemic Index and Triglyceride/HDL Ratio: Can They be Biomarkers for Insulin Resistance in Euthyroid Women with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, and Are They Related to Thyroid Function Tests?

INTRODUCTION: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the most common autoimmune disease. Insulin resistance (IR), independent of thyroid function tests but attributed to thyroid autoantibodies, can be observed in (HT). The most frequently employed method for demonstrating IR is the HOMA-IR index. Recently, the triglyceride-glucose index (TGI) and triglyceride-to-HDL ratio (TG/HDL) have been proposed as novel, practical, and cost-effective indicators of IR. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between TGI, TG/HDL ratio, and HOMA-IR in euthyroid, normoglycemic women aged 18-45 years w
