We here report a 45-year-old man with left arm focal dystonia induced by golf. He was a swimming instructor. From 35 years of age, he swung a golf club for 4 hours everyday. At 37 years of age, he noted difficulties in moving left arm when swinging, and developed involuntary movement of left arm toward his back thereafter. His involuntary movement was exacerbated even in several years after stopping both golf and swimming. Neurologically, simultaneous contraction was observed in left triceps and biceps muscles and his left arm dropped when raising arm to front. A 'sensory trick' was also obser

The performance of the overhead squat may affect the golf swing mechanics associated with golf-related low back pain. This study investigates the difference in lumbar kinematics and joint loads during the golf downswing between golfers with different overhead squat abilities. Based on the performance of the overhead squat test, 21 golfers aged 18 to 30 years were divided into the highest-scoring group (HS, N = 10, 1.61 ± 0.05 cm, and 68.06 ± 13.67 kg) and lowest-scoring group (LS, N = 11, 1.68 ± 0.10 cm, and 75.00 ± 14.37 kg). For data collection, a motion analysis system, two force plates, an

Olfactory receptors (ORs) constitute the largest subfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), yet their activation mechanisms remain poorly understood, particularly outside canonical olfaction. The ectopically expressed receptor OR51E2 responds to microbiota-derived short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and has been linked to cancer, metabolism, and neuroprotection. However, the structural determinants governing OR51E2 activation, G protein coupling, and receptor-receptor interactions remain incompletely defined. Here, we combined targeted mutagenesis, functional signaling assays, BRET-based in

This case describes the imaging findings and clinical details of an adult man who sustained an injury to the third metacarpal and how the use of diagnostic ultrasound was used to assist in the diagnosis of an intraosseous foreign body. A 31-year-old man presented to an urgent care with redness, swelling, and pain following a history of trauma and laceration to the dorsum of his right hand 24 hours ago. After one week of moderate improvement with oral and intramuscular antibiotic therapy, the plateaued clinical picture prompted imaging with diagnostic ultrasound, which revealed a retained fore

BACKGROUND: Priming the primary motor cortex (M1) with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) prior to motor practice modulates post-synaptic activity, thereby impacting learning of a motor skill. This effect has been shown for the acquisition of simple motor skills. It is not clear whether priming tDCS can impact the learning/retention of a more naturalistic motor task.
OBJECTIVE/HYPOTHESIS: We investigated the effects of priming M1 with tDCS on the performance on a golf putting task. We hypothesized that participants who receive tDCS with the cathode over M1 (C-M1) would show better

Background/Purpose: Skilled motor performance depends on the action-observation networks (AONs), which supports the internal simulation of perceived movements. While expertise effects are well-documented in sports, neuroimaging evidence in golf is scarce, particularly on temporal dynamics across swing phases. This study examines how golf expertise modulates AON activation and functional connectivity during temporally distinct swing phases (pre-hitting vs. hitting) and assesses implications for predictive-coding models of motor skill. Methods: Fifty-seven participants (elite golfers: n = 28; co

BACKGROUND: Golf-related lower extremity (LE) orthopaedic injuries are frequently seen in emergency departments (EDs) across the United States (US). This study analyzes trends in mechanisms and distribution of these injuries.
HYPOTHESES: We hypothesized that (1) the LE injury incidence would increase from 2013 to 2022; (2) golf carts would be a significant injury mechanism; and (3) injury patterns would vary by age group.
STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive epidemiology study.
METHODS: The National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) database was queried for all LE golf-related injuries pre

BACKGROUND Due to the complexity of the golf swing, poor form affects performance and lead to injuries in the spine and extremities. The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) has created a movement screen to identify a golfer's physical limitations. The TPI includes 16 movement patterns within a golfer's swing that could lead to poor performance, dysfunction, and pain. TPI recommends specific exercises to address any dysfunctions. CASE REPORT This case report examined the benefit of a TDI-specific exercise program for a 78-year-old man with a history of low back pain and decreasing golf perform

The potential for head injuries from discs specifically designed for the sport of disc golf has increased as more disc golf courses are constructed in municipal parks where there is an inherent risk to park users of being struck by a golf disc. This study investigated the potential for head injury of various golf discs used in the sport of disc golf at 18 m/s (40 mph) and 27 m/s (60 mph) using a Hybrid III head form. A matrix of eight modern golf discs were tested to determine if velocity, mass, disc type, or flexibility has a significant effect on the potential for head injury as indicated by

Root-feeding grubs (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) were sampled from damaged areas of 61 irrigated roughs on 32 Kentucky golf courses to determine species composition and natural enemy incidence, the first such survey in the United States' transitional turfgrass climatic zone. Masked chafers (Cyclocephala lurida Bland and C. borealis Arrow) and Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica Newman) accounted for ≈73 and 26% of grubs found in an autumn survey, with Cyclocephala spp. predominating at most sites, although mixed infestations were common. Only a few Phyllophaga spp., and no exotic species other tha

Many studies have been done on the removal of pollutants from wastewater using aquatic plants. Water hyacinth has been the most widely-used plant, and systems using water hyacinth are well-established. These systems, however, have a few problems in their practical use. In a previous paper, we proposed a new system that could be used as a substitute for a conventional system or, as a secondary system to assist the conventional one. Mung beans will be used to remove pollutants in this system. In the previous experiment, the removal characteristics of nutrient salts such as NO2-, NO3-, NH4+ and p

Catalyst morphology and composition are key factors in improving activity and lowering the cost for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR), which are vital for the practical use of direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). In this study, Pt-Cu golf ball-like nanospheres (Pt-Cu GBNs) with various Pt/Cu ratios were prepared using water as a solvent and low temperature. Their morphology, crystal structure, and surface characteristics were analyzed using SEM, TEM, XRD and XPS. The MOR performance was measured by CV, CA, ECSA and CO stripping. The optimal catalyst Pt2Cu GBNs exhibited a mass activity equa

INTRODUCTION: Augmented reality (AR) is increasingly used in physical education, but little is known about learners' psychological responses to AR-assisted visual feedback in beginner golf instruction.
METHODS: This exploratory mixed-methods pilot study examined learner perceptions and preliminary pretest-posttest changes in learning motivation and perceived sources of self-efficacy. Twenty-four undergraduates completed an eight-week multicomponent AR-supported golf program, and six participated in semi-structured interviews. Learning motivation was assessed using ARCS dimensions, and perceiv

Although the lumbar spine region is the most common site of injury in golfers, little research has been done on intervertebral loads in relation to the anatomical-morphological differences in the region. This study aimed to examine the biomechanical effects of anatomical-morphological differences in the lumbar lordosis on the lumbar spinal joints during a golf swing. The golf swing motions of ten professional golfers were analyzed. Using a subject-specific 3D musculoskeletal system model, inverse dynamic analyses were performed to compare the intervertebral load, the load on the lumbar spine,

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Active leisure activities like park golf are crucial for older adults' successful aging. Grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) paradigm and Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this study investigated the structural relationships among perceived servicescape, facility image, satisfaction, motivation, and subjective well-being.
METHODS: A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed. Data from 264 older adult park golf participants in South Korea were analyzed using structural equation modeling. A phantom variable approach was employed to rigorously test mult

BACKGROUND: The proprioceptive and propulsive functions of the feet-despite their essential role in stability, movement initiation, and efficient bottom-up energy transfer along the kinetic chain-are largely overlooked in conventional golf physical and technical training. To address this gap, we developed a novel approach to golf athletic training and swing technique that embeds foot mechanics as a fundamental driver of performance enhancement.
METHODS: Twenty-five experienced golf players completed three separate swing sessions: the first before a specific foot-proprioceptive intervention (t

Golf is often perceived as low-contact, yet clubs, balls, and carts can cause clinically significant craniofacial injury. Youth participation rose during the COVID-19 era, raising concern for shifting injury patterns among children. This study used the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) to characterize golf-related craniofacial injuries in the United States from 2015 to 2024 and evaluate age-based differences and pandemic-era trends. We performed a retrospective analysis of NEISS cases involving golf activity, equipment, and golf carts, limited to craniofacial regions and a

The aim of this study was to determine the differences in golf swing execution in terms of the parameters of the pelvis and thorax movement between the sexes in junior golfers and their relation to the golf club velocity. Elite female and male players (age: 15.4 ± 1.0 and 15.8 ± 1.7 years, respectively) performed 10 golf swings with a driver under laboratory conditions. Pelvis and thorax movement parameters and golf club velocities were measured using a three-dimensional motion capture system. Statistical parametric mapping analysis of pelvis-thorax coupling revealed a significant difference (
