Efficacy and Safety of Non-invasive Brain Stimulation in Non-migraine Primary Headache Disorders: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Non-migraine primary headache disorders such as tension-type headache and cluster headache are often chronic and significantly impair quality of life, with limited effective treatment options. Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques, including repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and transcranial electrical stimulation (tES), have emerged as promising neuromodulatory therapies. This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness and safety of NIBS in reducing headache frequency and intensity in non-migraine primary headache disorders. METHODS:

The burden attributable to primary headache disorders in children and adolescents in Ethiopia: estimates from a national schools-based study.

BACKGROUND: We previously reported high prevalences of headache disorders among children (6-11 years) and adolescents (12-17 years) in Ethiopia. Here we provide data on headache-attributed burden collected contemporaneously from the same study participants. Part of the global schools-based programme within the Global Campaign against Headache, the study is the first to present such data from sub-Saharan Africa. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey following the generic protocol for the global study was conducted in six schools (urban and rural), in Addis Ababa city and three regions of Ethiopia.

Validation of a guideline-based decision support system for the diagnosis of primary headache disorders based on ICHD-3 beta.

BACKGROUND: China may have the largest population of headache sufferers and therefore the most serious burden of disease worldwide. However, the rate of diagnosis for headache disorders is extremely low, possibly due to the relative complexity of headache subtypes and diagnostic criteria. The use of computerized clinical decision support systems (CDSS) seems to be a better choice to solve this problem. METHODS: We developed a headache CDSS based on ICHD-3 beta and validated it in a prospective study that included 543 headache patients from the International Headache Center at the Chinese PLA

A Computational Analysis of Diagnostic Misrecognition in Co-Occurring Primary Headache Disorders: Prime Encoding of ICHD3 Criteria Reveals 72 Potentially Spurious Diagnoses.

Background/Objectives: In clinical circumstances with more than one headache disorder, misrecognition can occur if each headache disorder is not separately and individually evaluated. For example, consider the case of a patient with baseline tension-type headaches lasting hours who now develops cluster headaches with nausea. Merging the characteristics of both disorders may yield the illusion of migraine. Do these types of misrecognitions occur necessarily because of ICHD3 criteria? Are there combinations of ICHD3 criteria, if any, which yield this type of misrecognition? This work seeks to de

Clinical Effectiveness and Cost-Effectiveness of Collaborative Treatment With Korean and Western Medicine for Primary Headache Disorders: Protocol for a Multicenter Prospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Primary headache disorders, including migraine and tension-type headache, are among the most prevalent neurological conditions worldwide, significantly contributing to disability and socioeconomic burden. While Western medicine (WM) predominantly focuses on pharmacological symptom management, Korean medicine (KM) emphasizes a holistic, individualized approach using modalities such as acupuncture and herbal medicine. Collaborative treatment, which combines these approaches, has been proposed as an alternative approach; however, robust evidence on its clinical effectiveness and cost-

Refractory primary and secondary headache disorders that dramatically responded to combined treatment of ultrasound-guided percutaneous suprazygomatic pterygopalatine ganglion blocks and non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation: a case series.

In 1981, Devoghel achieved an 85.6% success rate in treating patients with treatment-refractory cluster headaches with alcoholization of the pterygopalatine ganglion (PPG) via the percutaneous suprazygomatic approach. Devoghel's study led to the theory that interrupting the parasympathetic pathway by blocking its transduction at the PPG could prevent or treat symptoms related to primary headache disorders (PHDs). Furthermore, non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) has proven to treat PHDs and has been approved by national regulatory bodies to treat, among others, cluster headaches and mig

Primary stabbing headache.

Primary stabbing headache is characterized by transient, cephalic ultrashort stabs of pain. It is a frequent complaint with a prevalence of 35.2%, a female preponderance, and a mean age of onset of 28 years (Vågå study). Attacks are generally characterized by moderate to severe, jabbing or stabbing pain, lasting from a fraction of a second to 3s. Attack frequency is generally low, with one or a few attacks per day. The paroxysms generally occur spontaneously, during daytime. Most patients exhibit a sporadic pattern, with an erratic, unpredictable alternation between symptomatic and non-symptom

Headache in Behçet's Disease.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Our objective is to describe the various neurologic manifestations of Behcet's syndrome with special attention to headache syndromes. RECENT FINDINGS: Most recent studies have focused on data collection to better characterize the relatively rare disorder of neuro-Behcets (NBD). In patients with Behcet's disease (BD) who are experiencing headache, most are primary headache disorders, specifically tension type or migraines. Worsening headache can, however, be a sign of increased Behcets disease activity. Behcet's disease is a chronic, systemic, inflammatory disorder of unknow

[Headache Classification, new edition].

Headache is extremely prevalent and experienced by almost everyone. A clinical test for the diagnosis of headache is still lacking, and a detailed clinical description is therefore essential for a precise diagnosis. The second edition of the International Headache Classification is presented, along with a translation into Danish. The major changes from the first edition are a detailed description of several subtypes of migraine, three subdivisions of tension-type headache according to frequency of headache and a major extension of the chapter concerning secondary headaches due to medication ov
