The impact of stigma on health care-seeking behavior in military personnel with mental health challenges.

Prolonged armed conflict has raised significant concern about the mental health of military personnel and veterans. Conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder and depression affect approximately 14-16% of U.S. service members deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. Other prevalent mental health issues include suicide, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, and aggression. Despite the availability of mental health services, stigma remains a major barrier to care, with nearly 60% of affected personnel avoiding treatment. This review examines how stigma influences help-seeking behavior

METHODS: We examine the prevalence of family health history among a cohort of AIAN people (n= 10,374) enrolled in the Education and Research Towards Health (EARTH) Study. We evaluate the association between having a positive family history and health behaviors to determine if those reporting a family history were more likely to report lifestyles that put them at risk of developing these health conditions. RESULTS: Among participants, 17.7% reported not knowing their family histo

Associations between intuitive eating and health behaviors and physical health in U.S. adults.

Intuitive eating is a non-diet approach that emphasizes eating in response to hunger and fullness cues that has potential as a sustainable health promotion framework. Although research demonstrates that intuitive eating is strongly associated with psychological health, less is known about its associations with health behaviors and physical health. We examined how intuitive eating related to lifestyle behaviors and chronic disease diagnosis in a large, diverse U.S. adult sample. Adults aged ≥ 18 years residing in the U.S. were recruited from CloudResearch's Connect platform to complete a cross-

Behavioral health outcomes and social determinants of health in children with diabetes and juvenile arthritis.

OBJECTIVE: Children with chronic illnesses, including arthritis, are at increased risk for adverse psychosocial outcomes influenced by social determinants of health (SDOH). Comparing psychosocial outcomes in families affected by juvenile arthritis compared to other chronic illnesses may help identify areas in need of special attention vs areas that may be addressed through adopting other disease examples' care models. We examined child and parent behavioral health outcomes for families with juvenile arthritis compared to diabetes, accounting for SDOH. METHODS: Secondary data analysis of the N

The impact of partner psychological abuse on health behaviors and health status in college women.

Previous research documents increased health problems, somatic complaints, and negative health behaviors among victims of physical and sexual violence. This study extended existing literature by examining the unique effects of partner psychological abuse on physical health and the moderating effects of approach and avoidance coping strategies. Psychological abuse was positively related to illegal drug use, physical and role limitations, negative health perceptions, and cognitive impairment in college women even after controlling for physical victimization. Psychological abuse was not related t
