BACKGROUND: Older adults experience a high risk of adverse events during hospital-to-home transitions. Implementation barriers have prevented widespread clinical uptake of the various digital health technologies that aim to support hospital-to-home transitions.
OBJECTIVE: To guide the development of a digital health intervention to support transitions from hospital to home (the Digital Bridge intervention), the specific objectives of this review were to describe the various roles and functions of health care providers supporting hospital-to-home transitions for older adults, allowing future t

As countries graduate from low-income to middle-income status, many face losses in development assistance for health and must 'transition' to greater domestic funding of their health response. If improperly managed, donor transitions in middle-income countries (MICs) could present significant challenges to global health progress. No prior knowledge synthesis has comprehensively surveyed how donor transitions can affect health systems in MICs. We conducted a scoping review using a structured search strategy across five academic databases and 37 global health donor and think tank websites for li

The public transport sector worldwide experienced the worst impact in recent history, in terms of ridership loss, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic negatively affected passengers' perceptions of public transport and is likely to make a lasting impact on ridership, trip patterns, and modal share. Without any supportive changes to transit operations, ridership is likely to decline. This study explores the setting of frequencies in transit lines and proposes a two-part methodology that addresses the changing perceptions of users, especially in a health-related context. The first part dev

BACKGROUND: Homelessness is linked to poor mental health and an increased likelihood of offending. People often lose accommodation when they enter prison and struggle to find accommodation upon release leading to an increased likelihood of relapse and reoffending. The RESET intervention was developed to support prisoners with mental health needs for 12 weeks after release to coordinate their transition into the community and obtaining secure housing.
METHODS: The primary objective of the study was to assess the participants housing situation. A prospective cohort design followed up 62 prisone

BACKGROUND: Women in contact with the prison system have high health needs. Short periods in prison and serial incarcerations are common. Examination of their experiences of health care both in prison and in the community may assist in better supporting their wellbeing and, ultimately, decrease their risk of returning to prison.
METHODS: We interviewed women in prisons in Sydney, Australia, using pre-release and post-release interviews. We undertook thematic analysis of the combined interviews, considering them as continuing narratives of their healthcare experiences. We further reviewed the

BACKGROUND: Postprandial symptoms in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) have been associated with increased bowel contractility.
AIM: To compare ileocolonic and colonic responses to feeding in health and IBS.
METHODS: We prospectively analyzed data from separate research trials in 122 IBS patients and 41 healthy volunteers. Ileocolonic transit (ICT) was evaluated before (colonic filling [CF]3h) and immediately after (CF4 h) a standard lunch at 3 h 45 min, and 2 h thereafter. The colonic geometric center (GC) was calculated 2 h (GC6 h) after lunch ingested at 4 h (GC4 h) and directly after (GC8 h

BACKGROUND: During the twentieth century there was a change in the pattern of diseases in Europe, with an increase in the incidence of allergies and autoimmune disorders, that paralleled a decrease of infectious conditions. The Hygiene hypothesis proposes that these phenomena are causally related.
AIM: To evaluate the epidemiological changes of allergic, autoimmune, and infectious diseases in Chile between 1950 and 2003.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Search for the incidence and prevalence of these diseases in the national records published by the Ministry of Health, as well as through a systematic

Background Electronic health records (EHRs) have improved healthcare delivery but have also introduced workflow inefficiencies that contribute to clinician burnout. After-hours EHR use has been identified as a key contributor, particularly among ambulatory providers. Objectives To evaluate the impact of a targeted EHR optimization intervention on self-reported EHR-related burnout and perceived efficiency among ambulatory providers following EHR implementation. Methods We conducted a quality improvement interventional study among ambulatory providers after transition to a new EHR. Self-reported

BACKGROUND: Most research on the healthy migrant effect (HME) of migrants and the reduction in such health advantages due to long-term residence has been conducted in countries with a high proportion of migrants. However, in Japan, where there is a low migrant population of 2.0% and a low Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) rating, only limited health data on migrants is available from official statistics, and no residence length data is available. Therefore, health indicators in studies on the HME in Japan are limited to the cause of death or mortality, and residence length data are esti

BACKGROUND: Supporting youth and their caregivers during the transition from pediatric to adult health care is a priority across Canada. Many transition in care (TiC) innovations exist, yet these innovations often fail to be effectively implemented and/or sustained. Knowledge translation (KT) interventions, such as developing educational materials and identifying champions, are used to promote the uptake of innovations into clinical practice. However, there is limited information on what, when, and how these KT interventions are used to implement and sustain TiC innovations.

OBJECTIVES: To describe and characterize three partly coexisting evidentiary configurations in drug regulation and health technology assessment (HTA), and to examine the inferential consequences of the progressive shift from replication-based to coherence-oriented standards of proof.
STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING: Conceptual and methodological commentary drawing on regulatory history, published methodological and epidemiological literature, documented empirical trends in regulatory approval patterns, and illustrative regulatory cases. Three evidentiary configurations are formally defined and compa

INTRODUCTION: The transition from pediatric to adult health care is a vulnerable time period for adolescents and young adults (AYA). Guidance on how to effectively implement transition support for AYA with recurrent acute pancreatitis (RAP) and chronic pancreatitis (CP) is lacking.
METHODS: To address this gap, we formed a consortium of pancreatic centers that would work in coordination to test interventions to improve the transition for AYA with RAP and CP. We then performed a baseline assessment of consortium resources and patient transition readiness and developed an educational toolkit fo

Educational transitions can influence loneliness and increase mental health issues for young people transitioning between educational stages. The aim was to explore the link between educational transitions and emerging adults' loneliness and mental health and how they perceive they can alleviate and/or improve these issues. Semi-structured qualitative interviews with a total of 12 emerging adults, 10 females and two males aged 18-29 (mean age, 22.91) were conducted. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Emerging adults' loneliness and mental health across educational transitio

The causes of traffic accidents include sudden cardiovascular disease events of drivers that go undetected in routine physical examinations of their health. While increased attention has been paid to proactive driver management by the frequent monitoring of drivers' mental and physical condition to avoid such events, very few studies have examined the deeper risk factors that influence the cardiovascular health of bus drivers represented by workload and scheduling. To fill this knowledge gap, this study adopts a data mining approach to exploring the factors influencing the cardiovascular healt

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of pegbovigrastim injection (Imrestor, Elanco Animal Health, Greenfield, IN) on production parameters and postpartum disease occurrence (retained placenta, metritis, displaced abomasum, and clinical mastitis) in dairy cows. Study cows (n = 270) were blocked by parity group (multiparous or primiparous) and randomly assigned to control (CON, n = 144) or pegbovigrastim treatment (IMR, n = 126). Ten ± 4 days before expected calving and again at calving, IMR cows received 2.7 mL of Imrestor and CON cows received 2.7 mL of 0.9 % saline. Milk yield, f

Approximately 5% of the UK population live with serious mental health problems. Data show that informal caregivers of people with mental illness provide care for the highest number of hours compared to other illness and the economic cost of this care is highest in the UK when compared internationally. People living with serious mental health problems make transitions between different intensities of service as their needs fluctuate, including referral, admission, transfer or discharge. Although caregiving is associated with both stress and positive reward, service transitions are particularly
