"I was Where I Needed to be": The Rural Health Care Workforce Experience During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

More information is needed on how to recruit and retain rural health professionals, especially during times of crisis. In this article, we explore the experiences of rural health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted in-depth, semi-structured interviews with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals in the state of Minnesota from 2023 to 2024 (n = 17) and used iterative thematic analysis to identify key themes. Two key themes emerged from our analysis as challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic: staffing shortages and the politicization

Health professionals' language capacity in Canada: a mixed qualitative analysis of regulatory data and implications for workforce planning.

BACKGROUND: Canada's official bilingualism aims to ensure equitable access to health services in English and French, yet official-language minority populations continue to face barriers to care. Community First Responders' role in the current and future rural health and care workforce: a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Community First Responders are trained volunteers dispatched by ambulance services to potentially life-threatening emergencies such as cardiac arrest in the first vital minutes to provide care until highly skilled ambulance staff arrive. Community First Responder schemes were first introduced to support ambulance services in rural communities, where access to prehospital emergency care is more likely to be delayed. Evidence is lacking on their contribution to rural healthcare provision, how care is provided and how this might be improved. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to describe Community

Public health dentists in maternal and child oral health in India: workforce roles, systemic barriers, and policy implications from a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Maternal and child oral health (MCOH) plays an important role in preventing early childhood caries and improving pregnancy outcomes. The present exploratory workforce study, therefore examined the perceptions, roles, and systemic barriers experienced by Public Health Dentists in India. METHODOLOGY: A mixed-m

Academic-practice partnerships in public health workforce development in China: a comparative analysis of 12 purposively selected cases.

BACKGROUND: Academic-practice partnerships (APPs) are increasingly used in public health workforce development, but evidence on their institutional drivers and varied development pathways in China remains limited. This study examines how institutional pressures, interorganizational resource relationships, and boundary-spanning practices are reflected in the development of APPs in China. METHODS: An exploratory multiple-case comparative design was adopted. Twelve APP cases were purposively selected across Chinese regions with diverse resource endowments. Drawing on institutional isomorphism, R

Allied health workforce development for participant-led services: structures for student placements in the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

BACKGROUND: Health, disability, and community services are increasingly transitioning from government-led to participant-led funding models, which intend to increase choice and control for service users. Allied health practitioners, who provide many frontline services within the resultant marketised environment, must adjust their knowledge and skills to meet participants' expectations. However, future workforce strategies to address allied health student capabilities to provide these services have received limited attention. This study explored shifting understandings and practices related to

Health workforce planning models for older adults in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region: a mixed methods systematic review.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: As the population across the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) ages, healthcare systems are increasingly strained by the rising burden of non-communicable diseases and the growing demand for chronic geriatric care. Effective health workforce planning is essential to address these evolving needs. However, limited evidence exists on the applicability of workforce planning models tailored specifically to older adults in the EMR. The purpose of this review is to examine current models and strategies in health workforce planning for older adult care

Furthermore, identified learning from safety incidents often lacks focus on AHPs and research is needed to understand how AHPs contribute to safe care in these services. METHODS: A rapid literature review was conducted on material published from February 2014 to February 2024, reporting safety incidents within adult inpatient mental health, learning disability and autism services in England,

Interrelations of work with health and wellbeing on a 50+ year old workforce assessed using longitudinal self-reports and actigraphy.

Daily activities, work, and health are closely intertwined. We closely followed 45 participants aged 50-66 years working across different sectors in a year-long study, who completed a range of baseline, weekly, and monthly Participant Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). Participants self-reported on work-related aspects using the Brief Job Stress Questionnaire (BJSQ) and Workplace Wellbeing Question Bank (WWQB); wellbeing using the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS); and sleep using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Additionally, they provided wrist-worn actigraphy data
