Haglund syndrome is characterized by chronic posterior heel pain associated with a posterosuperior calcaneal prominence. We assessed the clinical and radiologic outcomes after operative treatment of Haglund syndrome using the central tendon-splitting approach. Fifteen feet in 15 patients were investigated retrospectively after surgery. Of the 15 patients, 14 were males (93.3%) and 1 was female (6.7%). Their mean age was 33.1 ± 8.2 (range 20 to 50) years. The mean follow-up duration was 3.5 ± 1.5 years (range 24 to 90 months). The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot Scale

BACKGROUND: Giant epiglottic cysts can cause throat discomfort, a sensation of foreign body presence in the throat, and respiratory distress. Furthermore, individuals without symptoms might face difficulties with airway management during anesthesia-related emergencies. In extreme situations, a tracheostomy might be required.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old man, who was diagnosed with a left heel spur, decided to undergo an arthroscopic osteotomy. The process of ventilating with an anesthesia mask grew more difficult and eventually impossible following the insertion of the laryngeal mask. The

PURPOSE: Many patients attend orthopedic departments complaining of pain on the plantar aspect of the calcaneum. The symptoms may subside spontaneously, but often persist. Treatment is usually by local injection of a corticosteroid, orthopedic devices or other standard treatment. If these methods fail, X-ray treatment may be considered. The efficacy of radiotherapy of the calcaneal spur was evaluated.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From April 1981 through December 1991, 18 patients with painful heel were irradiated mostly with the caesium or telecobalt unit, usually with a dose of 4 times 0.5 Gy. Amon

Stress fractures of calcaneus are uncommon cause of heel pain. Stress fractures could be seen in risc groups such as metabolic diseases/medications causing poor bone quality and exposing repetitive microtrauma. Anti-epileptic drug (AED) use is related with poor bone quality and increased fracture risc. Although carbamazepine-induced stress fracture is a well-known entity and there are case reports in other bones such as the femoral neck, bilateral calcaneal insufficiency fractures is an extraordinary location. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case reporting an insufficiency frac

This article describes the five major foot deformities or problems often seen in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: hallux valgus, pronation of the foot, depression of the metatarsal heads, hammer or claw toes, and tendocalcaneal bursitis or subplantar spur formation. These deformities contribute to the development of common rheumatoid gait deviations such as decreased velocity, cadence, and stride length; poor heel-toe pattern; and abnormal patterns of weight bearing. Nonsurgical treatment for these problems includes joint protection methods, assistive gait devices, orthotic intervention, an

Plantar fasciitis is one the most common pathologies treated by foot and ankle surgeons. When nonoperative therapy fails, surgical intervention might be warranted. Various surgical procedures are available for the treatment of recalcitrant plantar fasciitis. The most common surgical management typically consists of open versus endoscopic plantar fascia release. Comorbidities associated with the release of the plantar fascia have been documented, including lateral column overload and metatarsalgia. We present an innovative technique for this painful condition that is minimally invasive, allows

This study aimed to develop and validate a computed tomography (CT)-based model that combines radiomics features, deep features derived from nnU-Net, and clinical imaging variables for predicting the presence of calcaneal spurs. In this retrospective study, 803 calcaneal CT images were included and randomly divided into a training cohort (n = 642) and a test cohort (n = 161). The calcaneus was segmented with an iterative semiautomatic no new U-Net (nnU-Net) workflow, and conventional radiomics features and nnU-Net deep features were extracted from the reviewed regions of interest. Chronic plantar heel pain (CPHP) is one of the most common soft tissue disorders of the foot, yet its aetiology is poorly understood. The purpose of this systematic review was to examine the association between CPHP and the various aetiological factors reported in the literature. Seven electronic databases and the reference lists of key articles were searched in August 2005. The resulting list of articles was assessed by two independent reviewers according to pre-determined selection criteria and a final list of articles for review was created. The methodological quality of the included articl

BackgroundPlantar fasciitis is a prevalent cause of heel pain, often managed nonoperatively. For patients who remain symptomatic despite nonoperative treatment, surgical options are considered. The debridement, ostectomy, release, and radiofrequency (DORR) procedure-a novel endoscopic suprafascial approach-aims to address multiple pathological components of chronic plantar fasciitis to achieve best outcomes.MethodsA retrospective review of 37 patients who underwent the DORR procedure with endoscopic gastrocnemius recession for chronic plantar fasciitis between 2023 and 2024 was performed. Calcaneal spur and plantar fasciitis are the most common causes of plantar heel pain. There are many effective physical modalities for treating this musculoskeletal disorder. So far, the are no clear recommendations confirming the clinical utility of high-intensity laser therapy (HILT) in the management of painful calcaneal spur with plantar fasciitis. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of HILT in pain management in patients with calcaneal spur and plantar fasciitis. A group of 65 patients was assessed for eligibility based on the CONSORT guidelines. This study was prospectively re

BACKGROUND: Specific attention on the musculoskeletal impact of wearing high-heeled shoes (HHS) has mainly focused on knee osteoarthritis and the literature is limited to biomechanical changes. The distal femoral cartilage has not been morphologically studied. Additionally, although heel elevation is coupled with a shear stress at the heel and overloaded calf muscles, Achilles tendon (AT) and plantar fascia (PF) thicknesses have not been assessed either.
OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the distal femoral cartilage, AT, and PF were different in women wearing HHS and flat-heeled shoes (FHS) a

Plantar fasciitis (PF), a common cause of heel pain, primarily results from inflammation of the plantar fascia due to excessive strain. Its complex pathophysiology, influenced by various biomechanical factors, has led to the development of diverse surgical techniques. Most of these techniques, when used in isolation, have shown benefits in treating refractory PF. We propose the debridement, ostectomy, release, and radiofrequency procedure, a minimally invasive approach combining (1) debridement of the suprafascial plane, (2) ostectomy of the calcaneal spur, (3) partial release of the medial pl

Plantar heel pain is a common complaint encountered by orthopedic surgeons, internists, and family practitioners. Although it is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, this is a diagnosis of exclusion. Other mechanical, rheumatologic, and neurologic causes must be considered first. The history and physical examination are typically all that is needed to make the proper diagnosis, but diagnostic adjuncts are available to assist the clinician. When plantar fasciitis is diagnosed, conservative modalities must be tried first. Corticosteroid injections and extracorporeal shock-wave therapy may als
