OBJECTIVES: Due to the insufficient sensitivity of microbiological tests, histology may be helpful for the diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB), especially extrapulmonary TB.
METHODS: We used the database of the pathology laboratory from 2019 to 2023. We retrospectively analyzed the etiologies of lymph nodes finding epithelioid granuloma and their performance in diagnosing TB.

The Parotid gland is rarely involved in tuberculosis, even in endemic countries. We report a case of a 26 year-old woman with no medical history, who presented with a swelling of the parotid lodge. Pathology performed after surgery found a tuberculous parotitis, and the patient received anti-tuberculous regimen with a satisfactory evolution. We discuss both diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for this infection.

We report a neonate with 4S neuroblastoma and MYCN amplification, but favorable Shimada histology, successfully treated with chemotherapy and 13-cis-retinoic acid without stem cell transplantation. MYCN amplification in neuroblastoma is usually associated with unfavorable Shimada histology; the presence of these features in infants with 4S disease confers a poor prognosis. A small number of infants with 4S neuroblastoma and MYCN amplification have favorable Shimada histology. In this subgroup of infants, histopathology may be equally important in predicting outcome.

The purpose of this study was to document the progression and pattern of endosteal bone formation in a porcine mandibular distraction wound. Bone formation was assessed in a 0-day latency model (n=24 pigs) using distraction rates of 1, 2, or 4 mm/day to create a 12-mm gap.
