The effect of being left home alone at age 3 years on schizotypy and antisocial behavior at ages 17 and 23 years.

OBJECTIVE: Negative home environments are associated with both schizophrenia-spectrum disorders and crime, but whether this is due to the social or cognitive sequelae of such environments is unclear. This study investigates the effect of early home environments on adult mental health. METHOD: Using data from the Mauritius Child Health Project, a multiple time-point prospective study where all children born in 1969 in two towns (Quatre Bornes and Vacaos) were recruited at age 3 years (N = 1794), a group of children left home alone at age 3 (n = 34) were compared to children cared for by siblin

Service needs of adolescent parents in child welfare: Is an evidence-based, structured, in-home behavioral parent training protocol effective?

SafeCare is an evidence-based behavioral parent training intervention that has been successfully implemented in multiple state child welfare systems. A statewide implementation in Oklahoma established the effectiveness of SafeCare with a diverse group of parents, which included adolescent parents under 21 years of age, a particularly at-risk group. The current study examined whether SafeCare is also effective for this subsample of 294 adolescent parents with regard to child welfare recidivism, depression and child abuse potential, and attainment of service goals. Post-treatment adolescent pare

Don't touch the gadget because it's hot! Mothers' and children's behavior in the presence of a contrived hazard at home: implications for supervising children.

OBJECTIVE: This study compared boys' with girls' hazard-directed behaviors at home when the mother was present and absent from the room. METHODS: Videos were coded for how children reacted to a contrived burn hazard ('Gadget'), maternal verbalizations to children about the hazard, and children's compliance with directives to avoid the hazard. Children's behavioral attributes (risk-taking tendency, inhibitory control) and maternal permissive parenting style were also measured. RESULTS: Boys engaged in more hazard-directed behaviors when the mother was present than absent, whereas girls' risk

Telehealth Versus In-Person Caregiver-Mediated Behavioral Treatment for Challenging Behaviors in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: Protocol for COACH (Caregiver Outreach for Autism Coaching at Home) Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 40%-60% of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) exhibit challenging behaviors such as aggression, elopement, self-injury, and property destruction that can endanger the health and safety of the child or others, often cause significant distress for families, and hinder the child's developmental progress. Although behavioral treatments grounded in the principles of applied behavior analysis have been shown to effectively reduce or eliminate these behaviors, significant gaps remain in how to deliver these interventions equitably. OBJECTIVE: This study

Home-based exercise can be beneficial for counteracting sedentary behavior and physical inactivity during the COVID-19 pandemic in older adults.

The novel pandemic called coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), as a global public health emergency, seems to be having a major impact on physical activity (PA) behaviors. Older adults are at high risk of death from the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2). Health authorities around the world have been implementing preventive health measures, including quarantine and self-isolation, to mitigate the COVID-19 outbreak. This period is characterized by the cessation of outdoor exercising. During this period of lockdown, PA has been one of the rare reasons for going out in so

Suitability of prolonged meloxicam treatment in mice seems limited due to unfavorable pharmacokinetics, side effects, and impact on home-cage behaviors.

Meloxicam is commonly used for analgesia, but no preparation approved specifically for use in mice. Here, we determined plasma concentrations, safety, and impact on home-cage behaviors for subcutaneous injection (5 mg/kg) and oral self-intake (sweetened drinking water, 20 mg/kg/24h, 5 days) for C57BL/6J mice (n = 21/sex). After injection, plasma concentrations measured by LC-MS/MS were higher in females (2h) and remained within an estimated therapeutic range (390-911 ng/mL) for up to 6h. T1/2 was 2.32 h. Despite acceptance, plasma levels fluctuated strongly during oral self-intake. Side effect

Behavioral Challenges and Adaptive Strategies in Providing Mealtime Care to Residents With Dementia: A Qualitative Study of Nursing Home Clinical and Administrative Staff.

This study examined how nursing home staff adapt to challenging mealtime behaviors in residents with dementia, such as turning away or refusing food. Ten focus groups were conducted with 52 clinical and administrative staff from three southeastern U.S. nursing homes. Transcripts were analyzed using four key codes: feeding behaviors, interventions, training, and communication. Staff described a range of mealtime challenges, including cognitive and functional decline, dysphagia, and elopement. Feeding-related behaviors like refusing to eat reflect the complexity of care required. Staff reported

Development of Behavior Abnormalities in a Patient Prevented From Returning Home After Evacuation Following the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster: Case Report.

After Japan's major nuclear accident in 2011, approximately 150,000 Fukushima residents were ordered to evacuate. Beginning in 2015, the evacuation orders have been systematically lifted. However, the health impacts of allowing residents to return to homes in areas previously uninhabitable due to nuclear radiation remain poorly understood.Declaring radiation levels to be safe does not necessarily eliminate the concerns of residents about the effects of radiation exposure. Rebuilding medical, welfare, and commercial infrastructure and services takes time. Nontangible community elements, such as
