The cervical ectopic pregnancy is extremely rare accounting for approximately 0.1% of all ectopic pregnancies. The incidence is estimated at 1:2500-1:98,000 pregnancies. Before the decade of the 80s, the diagnosis is usually performed to made curettage for incomplete abortion likely secondary to uncontrollable bleeding culminating in hysterectomy, is extremely dangerous, as the trophoblast uterine vessels can reach through the thin wall cervical and cause serious and intractable bleeding that usually ends even today in mutilating surgeries to limit future playback. OBJECTIVE: To assess the prevalence of uterine anatomical abnormalities found by office diagnostic hysteroscopy in a population of patients experiencing more than two consecutive miscarriages and compare the prevalence of uterine abnormalities between patients with two miscarriages and those with three or more consecutive miscarriages.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study of 66 patients with two or more consecutive miscarriages diagnosis was conducted. Patients were divided into two groups: Group A (up to two miscarriages, 23 patients), and Group B (3 miscarriages, 43 patients). They underwent an

BACKGROUND: Recurrent pregnancy loss is traditionally investigated after three or more consecutive pregnancy losses. Although there is a trend to start investigation after two miscarriages, data are not available to date to justify this approach. We sought to compare the frequency of uterine anomalies between women referred to hysteroscopy for repeated miscarriages after two, and three or more, miscarriages respectively.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of acquired and congenital uterine anomalies in all patients undergoing hysteroscopy for repeated pregnancy loss at an academic and referral

Two cases of obstetrical uterine rupture after operative hysteroscopy without perforation are described. One was treated for uterus septus, the other one for synechia. However, the uterus could have been fragilized in both cases: one had been perforated by a uterine device, the other case had a past history of repeated curetage. A review of the literature shows 7 other similar cases, published over last ten years, 6 of them having a past history of perforation during the operative hysteroscopy (5 cases) or by an intra-uterine device. These obstetrical complications, although rare, can lead to

Hysteroscopy is performed to view and treat pathology within the uterine cavity and endocervix. Diagnostic hysteroscopy allows visualization of the endocervical canal, endometrial cavity, and fallopian tube ostia. Operative hysteroscopy incorporates the use of mechanical, electrosurgical, or laser instruments to treat intracavitary pathology and perform hysteroscopic sterilization procedures. Selection of a distending medium requires consideration of the advantages, disadvantages, and risks associated with various media as well as their compatibility with electrosurgical or laser energy. OBJECTIVE: To present a new technique of virginity-preserving operative hysteroscopy in the treatment of intrauterine pathologies.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The details of operative hysteroscopy in which the hymenal orifice was left intact to preserve virginity are presented. The technique briefly involved the following steps: holding the cervix with a tenaculum and its traction to the immediate posterior hymenal opening with use of office hysteroscopy, which was then followed by operative conventional hysteroscopy.
RESULTS: The technique was performed successfully in all patients with an annul

A prospective study was conducted on the incidence of intrauterine pathology after missed abortion diagnosed and treated by hysteroscopy. A hysteroscopy was performed in 100 women four to 12 weeks after a dilatation and curettage for missed abortions. Uterine malformations were found in 12 patients, intrauterine adhesions in seven and submucous myoma in two cases. As a side finding four cases of asymptomatic retained products of conception were found. Most cases of the intrauterine pathology were treated instantly by hysteroscopy, "see and treat" regimen was preferred. Post-missed abortion-hys

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the role and feasibility of the "1-stop" clinic for management of postmenopausal bleeding, based on the use of transvaginal ultrasound and hysteroscopic examination under local anesthesia.
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective analysis of 308 patients referred to the clinic between October 2000 and May 2002 was carried out. Endometrial thickness of > 4 mm, as measured by transvaginal scan, was considered the cutoff limit for further investigation by hysteroscopy.
RESULTS: Three hundred eight patients were seen in the 1-stop clinic. One hundred ten (35.7%) had endometrial thick

In this paper the procedure of selective salpingography and tubal cannulation through hysteroscopy for diagnosis and treatment of fallopian tube obstruction at the interstitial portion was introduced. We combined hysteroscopic tubal cannulation with selective salpingography under fluoroscopic quidance in 28 infertile women with 49 obstructed interstitial portion of fallopian tubes diagnosed previously. After the procedures 27 tubes (55.1%) became patent in 16 cases. In 16 women with patent tubes followed up over 6 months after the procedures 5 intrauterine pregnancies occurred. This procedure

Hysteroscopic surgery requires a balance of continuous controlled irrigation and aspiration to distend the endometrial cavity to a degree that provides the clear and stable visual environment necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Whereas the preferred distending solution should be isotonic and isonatremic, radiofrequency (RF) electrosurgery with monopolar instrumentation can only be performed with non-ionic (hyponatremic) solutions. Absorption of as little as 500 mL and certainly more than 1000 mL of non-ionic solutions can result in fluid overload and/or dilutional hyponatremia

During the last decades, the number of couples with reproductive issues has substantially increased. Many different factors are implicated in reproductive failure, including uterine factors. Endometrial pathologies, such as endometrial polyps, hyperplasia, endometritis, and Mullerian anomalies, can also hinder embryo implantation. Hysteroscopy remains the gold standard for the evaluation and treatment of intrauterine pathology. Over the last few years, advances in hysteroscopic instrumentations and surgical techniques have significantly evolved, the refinement in technology, miniaturization of

Hysteroscopy in alpacas and llamas allows for the identification of abnormalities on the surface or within the endometrium that cannot be identified with other methods. Hysteroscopy also allows for site-directed endometrial cytology, culture, and biopsy to achieve a definitive diagnosis. Even when no cause for infertility can be found, previously infertile females tend to become pregnant and maintain their pregnancies to term following the hysteroscopic procedure. This therapeutic effect may be a response to pre-hysteroscopy estrogen treatment, dilation of the uterine horns during hysteroscopy
