Exploring trust dynamics in health information systems: the impact of patients' health conditions on information source preferences.

INTRODUCTION: Health information systems (HISs) should provide accessible and high-quality information to patients. However, the challenge lies in understanding patients' trust preferences for health information. This study explores how different information sources (e.g., online platforms, interpersonal sources) are trusted under varying health conditions, focusing on symptom intensity and disease type. METHODS: Using a 2 × 2 × 4 between-subject design, 243 participants from a US college were presented with vignettes of acute or chronic diseases with varying symptom intensities and informati

Edvard Munch's crisis in 1908 and French medicine: His doctors, treatments, and sources of information.

In 1908, Norwegian artist Edvard Munch-already famous for The Scream and other paintings showing sickness, despair, and suffering-put himself under the care of Dr. Daniel Jacobson, a nerve doctor in Copenhagen. Jacobson had previously attended some of Jean-Martin Charcot's lectures in Paris, as had Knud Pontoppidan, his mentor. Munch, in turn, had long been showing signs and symptoms of an anxiety disorder and what might have been viewed as neurasthenia or hysteria. Now, he also seemed to be suffering from acute alcoholic toxicity. In this article, we explore Scandinavian psychiatry at the tur

The dual contingencies of ethnoraciality: Status-context disparities in health information sources among sexual minorities.

Researchers often explore health (care) beliefs as a function of individual characteristics; yet, few consider the role of context in shaping both beliefs and the behaviors that are informed by them. As a sociopolitical construct, ethnoraciality provides a concerning source of bias in studies of health (care) beliefs because it inhabits both individual and contextual forms. This study examines whether the ethnoracial context of the residential area where sexual minorities live is associated with a particular health (care) belief - sources of trustworthy health information - and considers how e

A qualitative study of perceptions of control over potential causes of death and the sources of information that inform perceptions of risk.

BACKGROUND: Investigating perceptions of control over mortality risk may be fundamental to understanding health behaviours and tackling socioeconomic gradients in health. Few studies have explored perceptions of control over different causes of death and there is a lack of qualitative risk research. Our aim was to examine participants' perceptions of control over potential causes of death and the sources that inform perceptions of risk. METHOD: We conducted semi-structured interviews with 24 participants (14 female and 10 male) and conducted a template analysis to analyse the transcripts. FI

[Quality reporting in long-term care facilities-information requirements, search strategies, and information sources for persons in need of care and their family members].

Persons in need of care and their family members should be able to realistically assess and compare the quality of care services. Recent legislation therefore states that the current procedure to assess and present care quality has to be developed further. While quality measurements can be informed by the literature, knowledge on suitable formats for presenting quality information that is suitable for care-receiving persons and their families is highly fragmentary. The "Development of quality reporting in long-term care" project, a cooperation between the Charité, the federal association of the

TikTok, YouTube, and Bilibili as sources of information on uterine fibroids: A content and quality analysis.

Uterine fibroids, the most common monoclonal benign tumors of the uterine smooth muscle, show an increasing incidence with age. Currently, social media platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Bilibili are increasingly becoming important channels for disseminating health information. However, the quality and reliability of content related to uterine fibroids on these platforms are often unsatisfactory. This study aims to systematically evaluate the quality and content characteristics of uterine fibroid-related videos on 3 major short-video platforms - TikTok, YouTube, and Bilibili - using valida

Assessing Differences in Concussion Symptom Knowledge and Sources of Information Among Black and White Collegiate-Athletes.

OBJECTIVE: Basic concussion symptom knowledge is fundamental to concussion identification; however, racial disparities in concussion knowledge exist in high school and youth sports. It is unknown whether similar differences exist in collegiate-athletes. Identifying racial disparities in concussion knowledge and sources of concussion information is essential to inform equitable approaches to knowledge translation and educational interventions. This study examined how Black and White collegiate-athletes differed in their knowledge of concussion symptoms and use of concussion information sources.
